Chapter 49: The 101st Regiment is truly special

The closest didn’t mean the only one. But the 101st Regiment was one of the celestial regiments. It made sense. Secrets like that could only be found in places like this.

"But why specifically the 101st?" Edward asked, confused.

Couldn’t it be the 01st? It was currently the most powerful.

Aurora understood the reason for his question. "Have you heard of ’The Magician’?" she asked.

"Gideon, The Magician?" Edward raised his eyebrows. "I’ve heard of him, he’s ranked 5th in the Student Council," A student at the academy who hadn’t heard of that man must have been living under a rock all this time.

"There is much discussion about him. That he is already quite advanced in age, that he should not remain on the Student Council to give others a chance, and it is even said that he is not as strong as his title suggests. In reality, everything that is said about him makes sense and is accurate.

He doesn’t have that much strength, he’s about to say goodbye to the academy. But he is the Best Mage in the Academy. Myles can’t compare to him, and even the former leader of the Student Council, who graduated two years ago, still can’t match him."

"Really?" Edward was perplexed. "What makes him the best mage?"

"His control over the magic network," Aurora replied in a firm, soft voice. "I would dare to say that he is the Best Wizard within his age range, in the entire kingdom."

The best in the kingdom of the younger generation!

Even above those great geniuses in the capital!

He nodded, though thoughtfully. "I understand what makes it special, but why the 101st Regiment?" Edward asked again.

"You may not know this, but all the Celestial Regiments represent a Magic Group. The 01st Regiment represents the Magic Group of Manifestation. That’s why most of its members are Manifestation Mages."

Edward frowned slightly, already sensing where this was going.

"The 101st Regiment represents the Perception Group."

’Just as I suspected...’

"You understand what that means, right?" She laughed.

He nodded.

The Perception Group is in charge of information, analysis, and prediction. They have special magic to detect abilities cast through time.

It’s too difficult to break through their defenses, as they can anticipate your attacks very easily.

They are called: Game Masters.

"If they represent the Perception group, why do they have a Manifestation wizard?" Edward asked, puzzled. "Doesn’t that go against what they stand for?"

Finally, Aurora smiled. "That brings me to my point. Gideon’s arrival changed the tide in that Regiment. Now they are not only the group with the most information in the history of the academy, they are also the ones who have gone the furthest in the Cursed Lands thanks to Gideon! Besides..." Aurora lowered her voice dramatically. "Elder Owen fervently supports Gideon. I heard from my father that there are plans to create a 101st regiment in the Special Forces, with Gideon as its leader." She frowned and leaned back in her chair.

"Gideon is already at the level of a Special Forces Operator," she concluded.

Edward’s face froze.

Gideon being so strong was already impressive, but could Elder Owen do something like that? Who was this Elder? He must be someone of very high rank to be able to create a Special Forces Regiment within the Armed Forces, but it was difficult to say whether or not the Elders had that kind of power, maybe no.

He finally understood why Aurora was targeting that regiment. If she could spend several years there, being as good as she was, perhaps she could replace Gideon in the scheme and find out everything she wanted to know.

For her, as the daughter of declining nobles, it was difficult to find a better option.

"I understand your idea. I think you’re right that the 101st regiment is the best option for discovering what’s behind everything," Edward replied. "Should we try to get in?"

"Of course." She nodded. "I happened to hear that they are looking for someone who can perform many functions and is physically strong... Is it true that your talent is not limited to a single group of magical specializations?" She asked with a mischievous smile.

Edward smiled. "Indeed. It seems I can learn magic of any type and any element. Although many seem to believe that I am limited to Rank E."

"Isn’t that so?" She was surprised. Evidently, she also believed that to be the case.

Edward simply broadened his smile. "Who knows?" He chose to be mysterious.

Knock, knock, knock.

The sound of the door made them fall silent, and Arnold entered, his head bowed. It was probably the first time Edward had ever seen him so embarrassed, but he didn’t care.

"Arnold, aren’t you interested in forming a temporary group?" Edward asked suddenly, drawing attention.

"Do you want to create a temporary group? Wouldn’t it be better to find a regiment and join it? At least that way you’d receive a lot of riches."

"Aurora will be there," Edward said. "We need one more member to form the core and another to form the group."

"Miss Ashford?" He looked at her. "Really?"

Aurora nodded, although they hadn’t discussed it, but it suited her. "We were talking about it a moment ago."

Despite this, Arnold still seemed thoughtful... perhaps a little reluctant.

Although Edward didn’t know him very well, he could understand the reasons for his reluctance. "Take some time to think about it, Arnold. The proposal will remain active until my missions are activated. I heard that my instructor will be Sergeant Mervan, so I’ll go talk to him today."

Arnold nodded slightly. "I’ll think about it," he replied.

It was unusual to see Arnold acting so strange today, and Edward could only think that he admired Aurora too much, for whatever reason.

They ate lunch with Aurora and chatted idly.

At the end of lunch, Edward left for the day’s Practical Class, Arnold returned to his daily reading in his room, and Aurora seemed to have some things to do for a mission.

.

The magic training building was a huge gym-like structure, but it had different sections. There was the Shooting Range section, the Explosives Range, Puppet Training, Real Beast Training...

The variety made Edward a little dizzy, but he knew that today he was assigned to the first section: the Shooting Range.

Students came and went, the shouts from training sessions reached the entrance, and exploding spells shook the ground. It was quite lively here right now, thanks to it being the start of the year.

As he walked through the long corridors adorned and lit by torches embedded in the walls, between the intersections of corridors, Edward was stopped.

"Young man, you are Edward Lux, right?" The man was dressed in a red wizard’s robe, adorned with gold, which reflected the image of a phoenix even though the clothes were too big for him. His head was adorned with a black straw sun hat.

On his chest was a gold embroidery of a flying phoenix, transforming its feathers into swords of fire.

’A man from Count Hazzard.’ Edward recognized him and frowned slightly.

"I am, sir." Edward greeted him, though he acted cautiously. "Is something wrong?"

"Ah, don’t worry about being so polite." The man chuckled softly. "I’ve just come with a message from the Count. Would you like to hear it?" He gestured toward one of the empty training rooms.

Edward frowned more, but nodded. ’All right.’
