Chapter 90: Blue Phoenix’s Egg

The crowd roared as the sixth match of the tournament concluded.

Aamir sat with his friends in the audience stands, watching the arena intently. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement, though he looked more relaxed than thrilled.

"Man, it’s already 2 PM," Aamir said, stretching his arms. "And we’ve only reached the break. I’ve got another match after this."

Kunal leaned back in his seat. "You’ll win that match easily."

Aamir chuckled. "Yeah, I will... but still, I can’t help but get excited when it comes to fighting strong opponents."

The announcer declared a one-and-a-half-hour break, and the audience slowly began to disperse. Kunal stood up. "Alright, let’s get something to eat."

Everyone nodded in agreement. Kunal turned to Ji-won. "You coming?"

"Why not?" Ji-won smiled. "I’m hungry too, you know."

"Let’s go, then," Kunal said, and the group made their way to the stadium’s food court. Though plenty of food stalls lined the area outside the stadium, they decided to eat within the premises.

"No point in wasting time going out when we’ve got good food here," Aamir said.

After the break, the team split up. Everyone except Kunal and Ji-won returned to the contestants’ zone while the other two went back to their seats.

Soon, the host’s voice echoed across the arena once again. "Next round! Contestants, please step forward!"

Six names flashed on the screen.

Among them—Aamir.

He sighed the moment he saw his opponent: a student from Calonia. The same guy who had tried to mess with Kunal earlier.

"Tch... not these bastards again," Aamir muttered.

The match began.

The Calonian student sneered. "Ready to be humiliated, Aryavratan?" Aamir gave a bored shrug. "You should’ve trained instead of talking last time." The referee signaled the match start. The opponent lunged forward with a high-speed dash, mana crackling around his fists— —Only to be met with a precise palm strike to the chest that sent him flying back ten feet.

In just three moves, Aamir floored the Calonian student, knocking him out cold. The audience blinked in disbelief. The referee barely had time to react before Aamir turned around and walked off the stage.

The final two matches played out while Aamir returned to the waiting area. When the day finally concluded, only three contestants from Team 1 advanced to the next round:

Aamir

A girl from Galvia’s Divine Spirit Guardian Institute

A boy from Valtania’s Starwing Imperial University

Aamir met his friends outside.

"Finally, I’m free for the next eleven days," he said, stretching again. "This break’s gonna kill me."

Riya patted his shoulder. "Tomorrow’s my match. I’m in Team 2."

"You’ll win easily," Aamir said confidently.

Misaki added, "I’m in Team 2 too."

"All the best to both of you," Aamir replied with a grin. "But now... if you’ll excuse me..."

He left the group and wandered into a quiet, empty hallway near the edge of the stadium. Making sure no one was around, he looked up and said quietly, "System."

A crimson panel shimmered into view, floating before his eyes.

To anyone else, he’d look like a madman talking to himself, which is exactly why he’d stepped away.

"Level 24," he muttered. "EXP: 540 out of 1000... what the hell? I only got 1 or 2 EXP from that fight. These students are way too weak."

Just then, a familiar voice boomed in his mind.

"You’re forgetting something."

Aamir flinched. "Luman! Damn it, don’t scare me like that!"

"My apologies," Luman said calmly. "But you must remember, your system is bloodline purity-based. You only gain meaningful EXP from killing beasts... or defeating humans far stronger than yourself."

Aamir narrowed his eyes. "So I need real challenges to grow."

"Exactly."

Aamir let out a breath and leaned against the wall. "But I’ve got eleven days before my next match. That’s a long time to sit around."

"So what now?" he muttered.

"You could train," Luman said.

Aamir sighed. "Train against who? Cardboard cutouts? Everyone here’s either too weak or not allowed to fight me yet."

"Then perhaps it’s time you explored beyond the stadium," Luman suggested.

Aamir rubbed his chin. "You trying to send me on some secret side quest?"

"Would you decline if I did?"

Aamir smirked. "Only if it doesn’t come with decent EXP."

"I can not do anything about that," Luman hinted.

Aamir smiled slightly. "No worries. I’ll do my best not to lose my mind from boredom."

He closed the system panel with a thought, the crimson glow vanishing from the air.

As Aamir returned to his group after checking his system, he flashed a casual smile. "Hey guys, I’m gonna take a look around. Anyone want to come?"

Most of them shook their heads, already preoccupied with their own plans.

"I need to pick up something," Riya said, standing up. "Mind coming with me?"

"Sure, why not?" Aamir replied. "Let’s go."

The two of them walked off together, leaving the stadium’s side gates and disappearing into the marketplace just outside.

Meanwhile, back in the audience stands, Kunal and Ji-won sat watching the remaining crowd trickle out. The sunlight had softened, casting a golden hue over the stadium.

Suddenly, a man approached them—tall, dignified, and in his sixties. He wore a crisp, black butler uniform. His silver-white hair and sharp posture gave away years of service and experience. He came to a halt before Ji-won and bowed slightly.

"Young Miss Hyug," he said with quiet formality. "The Young Master is waiting for you."

Ji-won stood up quickly, her expression shifting to something more serious. "Ah... right."

She turned to Kunal and smiled politely. "Well, I guess that’s it for today. I’ll see you tomorrow?"

Kunal nodded. "Yeah. Sure. Tomorrow, then."

Before leaving, the butler leaned closer to Ji-won and whispered, though Kunal still caught part of it.

"Young Lady... is this young man your friend?"

Ji-won glanced at Kunal, hesitated for half a second, then smiled. "Kinda," she said softly.

The butler gave Kunal a brief nod. "Then he is fortunate to know you, Young Miss."

Ji-won looked surprised. "You really think so?"

"Of course," the butler replied. "You do not choose your companions lightly."

She smiled faintly. "Let’s go."

Then she turned and followed the butler, the two of them vanishing into the crowd, leaving Kunal staring after her, just a hint of confusion on his face.

The tournament day had ended, and Aamir found himself walking beside Riya through the bustling marketplace just outside the stadium.

They’d been wandering for about fifteen minutes. The crowd had thinned out, and most stalls were now far behind them. Here, on the quieter edge of the market, only a handful of vendors remained—four at most.

One stall in particular caught their attention.

An old man sat cross-legged behind a wooden stand, surrounded by no more than ten or twenty dusty items. Unlike the other flashy booths, his was humble, almost forgotten by the crowd.

Aamir’s eyes swept over the trinkets—and suddenly, his system screen buzzed into life.

[ITEM DETECTED: Blue Phoenix’s Egg]

Class – ???

Aamir frowned. He glanced around, then focused on a round, dull-brown object that looked more like a giant mudball than anything mystical.

"This thing?" Aamir picked it up, inspecting it closely. "Doesn’t even look like an egg..."

The old man looked up, his cloudy eyes narrowing.

"He picked it up. Must be valuable to him," he thought with a smirk. "This item... is very rare. Normally, it would cost far more, but I’ll let it go for ten silver coins."

Aamir scoffed. "Ten? Sir, that’s too much. I’ll give you seven."

The old man raised an eyebrow. "Hmm... that’s not fair. But I like your honesty. Make it eight silver coins, and it’s yours."

Aamir hesitated, then nodded. "Alright. Deal."

He handed over the coins and placed the mysterious object in his bag. Riya, still scanning the table, asked, "Do you have a flame mana crystal?"

The old man nodded. "Yes. One gold coin and two silver."

Aamir blinked. "Come on, I just bought something from you. At least give us a discount. One gold coin and one silver."

The old man chuckled. "You drive a hard bargain, young man. Fine. One gold and one silver it is."

Riya smiled and handed over the coins, receiving a glowing red-orange shard in return. She held it up, the flame-like glow reflecting in her eyes. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

"This will boost my fire magic a lot," she said, satisfied.

As he held it, the object pulsed faintly in his palm—like a heartbeat.

"You feel that?" he asked Riya.

"What?" she looked puzzled.

"It’s like... it’s alive."

The old man didn’t respond, but Aamir could’ve sworn the man’s smirk grew ever so slightly.

Aamir glanced at the old man one last time, then at the ’egg’ in his bag. A system item with no class, no details. Just a mystery.

He felt a strange energy pulsing faintly from it...

and for some reason, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this was no ordinary find. Then thay left
