I Faked My Death—Now I Have to Tame the Crazy Men I Left Behind-Chapter 67 - 65: Your Heart Aches for Him?
Mia Grant lowered her eyes, quietly raising a hand to cover her face.
But her trembling shoulders gave away her true feelings.
’I’m sorry, but this is hilarious!’
If it had been anyone else, she wouldn’t have found it so funny.
But this was Yates Donovan, of all people.
The police officer was articulate and had an air of righteousness, but she couldn’t stop herself from imagining the scene of Yates Donovan saying those words.
’Hugging the chief and cursing out Kian Keller in the main hall... yep, that’s definitely something he would do.’
He might even do something more outrageous.
After speaking, the officer coughed lightly into his fist. He probably found it absurd too and, fearing they wouldn’t believe him, repeatedly explained, "Those were Mr. Donovan’s exact words. If you don’t believe me, Mr. Keller, I can pull the surveillance footage from our lobby for you later."
The butler’s mouth twitched violently as he cautiously glanced at Kian Keller’s face.
A man of the master’s temperament was always inscrutable, though perhaps that was also because... he was used to Yates Donovan’s style.
Kian Keller’s expression showed no change. He was simply speechless, remaining silent and unresponsive.
The butler looked at Mia Grant, who was next to them, looking like she was either crying or laughing, and shot her a desperate look.
Mia Grant, having had her laugh, cleared her throat and immediately made her position clear. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"I’m not familiar with this Mr. Donovan."
"He’s probably mistaken. His fiancée isn’t me, it’s my older sister."
As soon as she finished speaking, the butler noticed that Kian Keller’s white-knuckled fingers, gripping the armrest, slowly relaxed.
The butler breathed a sigh of relief.
’Just as I thought. The master was silent because he was waiting for Miss Grant to declare her stance.’
Mia Grant emphasized her point again, and the officer, no longer suspicious, had her sign a document and prepared to leave with his team.
A call came in. The officer put away his pen and answered.
The person on the other end said something, causing the officer to frown. His gaze quickly shifted back to Kian Keller, who was sitting in his wheelchair.
"Are you sure? Okay, roger that. I’ll bring him back to the station."
Hearing this, Mia Grant was confused.
’Didn’t we just confirm that everything was fine?’
Hanging up the phone, the officer turned to face Kian Keller, his tone cold and somber. "Mr. Keller, we’ve received a tip from the public. You are now a person of interest in a recent murder case. Please come with us to the city bureau for investigation."
"..."
Mia Grant’s eyes widened in shock.
’A murder case?’
’It couldn’t be... about Hayes Hughes being attacked abroad, could it?’
’Did Hayes Hughes report it?’
’Is he awake?’
’No, no, even if he is awake, he should still be in the hospital recovering.’
’He was so badly injured, how could he have the energy to deal with this?’
’Then if it wasn’t Hayes Hughes himself...’
Mia Grant put on a suitably worried and anxious expression, gripping Kian Keller’s hand tightly. "Kian..."
Kian Keller first looked up at her. "I’ll have the driver take you back to school first."
His gaze was deep and calm, completely unaffected by the officer’s words.
After speaking, he asked the officer, "This member of the public... does their surname happen to be Donovan?"
The officer’s expression was intriguing, but his verbal response was watertight: "We’re not at liberty to disclose that."
Because of Kian Keller’s leg injury, the police allowed them to drive to the station themselves.
Mia Grant didn’t go back to school; she insisted on going with them.
"Miss Grant, the master said you should go back to school."
"No! How could I go back at a time like this! I have to go with him! Don’t stop me!"
The butler was so moved his eyes welled up. "I’m so sorry, Miss Grant. I used to think that perhaps you didn’t truly love the master, but it seems I was wrong!"
"I never thought that at a time like this, you would still firmly choose to believe in the master’s character and remain by his side!"
"..." Mia Grant patted his shoulder, her face expressionless. "It’s fine. I forgive you."
’But what’s all this about love, believing in Kian Keller’s character, and remaining by his side?’
’Could she tell them she was just going to watch the show?’

「City Bureau.」
Mia Grant arrived fashionably late.
Kian Keller had already been taken in for questioning.
She could only wait outside.
The main hall was bustling with people coming and going, but as soon as Mia Grant entered, her eyes were immediately drawn to Yates Donovan, who was sitting in the waiting area.
He was sitting among the crowd, but judging by his aura and attire, he didn’t look like he was there on business. It was more like he was attending some kind of event.
He was looking down at something, and just the sight of his profile was enough to capture one’s attention, making his presence known at a glance.
Snapping back to reality, Mia Grant clicked her tongue.
’He’s certainly calm. After stirring up so much trouble, he can still sit there so composed.’
’Thinking about it now, his reporting his fiancée missing was just a pretext.’
He knew better than anyone that there was nothing between them.
He knew the police couldn’t force Kian Keller to release her or make her leave.
Their eyes met. Mia Grant crossed her arms and walked over, sitting down in the empty seat beside him.
Yates Donovan grinned with a devil-may-care air. "So, that sanctimonious monk was willing to let you out?"
"..." Mia Grant kept a straight face, shooting him a sideways glance. "You planned to get him locked up from the very beginning, didn’t you? Having the police ’rescue’ me was just an excuse."
"Hm? What do you mean by that?"
"I did all of this for you."
"He kidnapped my fiancée, so I called the police to teach him a lesson. Is there anything wrong with that?"
"Or could it be..."
Yates Donovan put his phone away, spread his arm, and draped it over the back of the chair behind her.
The gesture made it look as if he was pulling her into his embrace. Leaning close together and whispering, they looked, at first glance, like a sweet young couple.
He leaned close to her ear, his breath brushing against it. "Are you feeling sorry for him?"
Completely unfazed, Mia Grant lowered her gaze, her eyes seeming to see through everything. She stared at him and said, word by word, "You’re lying."
A sharp glint flashed in Yates Donovan’s eyes.
"You were planning to use the incident with Hayes Hughes to counteract Kian Keller from the start."
"Previously, Hayes Hughes wasn’t willing to cooperate with you, so you couldn’t find the right opportunity. But this time, using me was the perfect chance."
"Ah." Yates Donovan nodded as if in sudden realization. He looked thoughtful and said slowly, "Perhaps. It was all convenient, anyway."
Mia Grant was curious. "But your two families have been friends for generations. Aren’t you afraid of the fallout?"
This kind of blatant antagonism was something only he would do.
Even though the police didn’t reveal it was him, the Keller family’s elders are active in politics. Finding out who was behind it would be a simple matter for them.
Even if the report wasn’t made in his name, the Keller family has plenty of ways to follow the trail right back to him.
After this, the Donovan family will have to figure out how to apologize to the Keller family.
"What’s the big deal?" Yates Donovan said nonchalantly. "As long as I can vent some anger, it’s worth it."
"No." Mia Grant’s dark eyes narrowed as she scrutinized him.
’Something’s still not right!’
"What’s not right now?" Yates Donovan tilted his head, his eyes full of innocence. "Haven’t I just been agreeing with everything you’ve said?"
"..." Mia Grant knew he had another motive.
"You and Kian Keller have only ever been at odds in the past; it never reached the point of hatred."
"For you to target him like this... perhaps he wasn’t your target from the beginning."
Mia Grant tried to recall some overlooked details. "Are you..."
"Using him?"
