I Don't Need To Log Out-Chapter 320: Asef (3)
Arlon was standing in a room.
In front of him was the bed Asef was sleeping in.
It was the next day.
He hadn't woken up yet, and Arlon knew that he wouldn't soon.
He had seen this before.
Asef's mother came in through the door. Behind her was the village chief.
"Do you know why my son is in this state?" the mother asked.
"Sigh... I am not sure. You know that I am only an eighth-generation priest. My powers to detect sickness or heal them are not that strong," the chief answered.
"I know, but I am okay with anything. Please..."
"Don't worry, I am going to do my best." And the chief started chanting some kind of spell.
Something that looked like holy power came from his hand and covered Asef.
But the next second, the power embracing Asef broke like glass.
The priest fell on his back with slight pain.
"What is this!" He was confused. "Something prevented my mana from entering his body."
Then, his eyes opened wide as if this reminded him of something important.
"Was there a well where they found him?" the chief asked the mother. He asked with haste.
"I-I wasn't there. But they said nothing was around."
The chief breathed out with relief. It wasn't the worst thing he could think of.
But then, someone entered the room.
"There was a well."
It was Efsa. He had been listening from the outside secretly.
"%&/%&" their mother called him. "You weren't even there with the team that found Asef. How do you know that there was a well?"
Efsa frowned before answering. "I know because we found that well together. I learned where they found him, and there was a well there."
Their mother looked at the chief to apologize for his child's absurdity. But the chief was looking at the child.
"Bring me there. Now!" he ordered Efsa.
Among the confusion, Efsa accepted.
They brought the mother and two of the search team members. This way, they would know if Efsa was telling the truth.
And Efsa brought them to the exact location where they found Asef.
Even if Efsa had heard where they found Asef, he couldn't be sure to the exact point.
But what he said next was worse: "There was a well here, but there isn't now."
They went back to the village, and the conversation between the mother and the chief continued.
"What is it, village chief? I can't understand."
The chief couldn't answer for some time. But then he told her the story of a well.
According to the legend, a man was imprisoned in a well.
The exact reason wasn't known since it differed from one narrator to another, but it was always related to upsetting a strong sorcerer.
The man inside was stuck there for millennia.
At first, he went crazy. But he stayed there so long that he regained his consciousness.
He knew that as long as the sorcerer lived, he would be imprisoned there.
But it was okay. It was better.
Because it meant that the weak him would live as long as the strong sorcerer lived.
Of course, he wouldn't stay there.
He started trying.
He knew that he could perform basic magic. So, he trained.
He was learning things by himself, but it was okay, even if it took a few more millennia.
In the end, he got stronger and stronger. And one day, he believed he was strong enough to leave.
But he was wrong.
Yes, he was stronger than the sorcerer back when he imprisoned him.
But the sorcerer also got stronger during this time.
And, even with his newfound power, he couldn't leave.
But the story didn't end there.
It was narrated that whoever looked into the well would talk to the man.
And whoever talked to the man would receive a gift.
"But that is a lie," the chief continued. "The real story is told differently. The well is said to be only found by special people.
That is why only your boys could find the well, even if it is this close to the village.
And... the imprisoned man will enter the body of the one who found the well like a parasite. And after a while, it will take over."
The mother couldn't believe what she heard, and tears started coming down her face once more today.
"What can we do? C-Can't we find a solution? Isn't there someone whou could save =)/)&%," she asked.
The chief shook his head. "If we had a sorcerer stronger than the one who imprisoned the man in the well, we could. But it isn't possible. And..."
"And?"
The chief continued, "And, if we leave the parasite to grow, it will probably take over the boy's body and kill everyone."
"What are you suggesting?" the mother said angrily.
But the chief didn't answer. He just said, "I am sorry, I will give you some more time..." and then left.
***
From that day forward, the mother tried everything.
She worked twice as much to have money on the ready if they found a way.
She even begged her ex-husband.
But nothing changed.
Even after Asef woke up.
In the meantime, Efsa started learning swordsmanship by himself.
He started with some wooden sticks he found, but then he bought himself a real sword with the money he earned.
Their world was not in a bad state, so buying a sword wasn't hard.
Especially since magic wasn't common, sword wielders dominated the market.
Arlon knew the reason why Efsa was training since he had lived through his life.
But the others only saw it as a kid, finding another game after his best friend, his twin brother, didn't wake up.
But when Asef woke up, they started training together.
Their life continued the same way except for three things.
Asef's eyes were red now.
Efsa didn't want to play games anymore; he only trained.
And lastly, their mother was crying every day.
