Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Spar!

Here’s a new version of your story, rewritten with simple words and short, easy-to-read paragraphs. I’ve kept it clear and straightforward, adding details to make it fun and vivid without making it complicated. It still feels like a light novel but is super simple to follow.

I had an amazing skill, but I couldn’t use it fully yet. That annoyed me a lot. I didn’t feel like looking for more elixirs—those shiny drinks that make you stronger—so I went back to the village. My boots crunched on the dirt path, and a cool breeze pulled at my cloak.

"One! Two! Run!" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

When I got to the village, I heard loud shouts. It made me curious. I walked faster toward the noise. In the middle of the village, I saw NPC Guard. He was a tough guy with a scratchy beard and dirty armor from hunting. He was yelling at some village men, telling them what to do.

"Thrust!"

"Hey!"

"Swing!"

"Ouch!"

The men held wooden spears and tried to move together. They weren’t very good. Some tripped, and others swung too hard and hurt themselves. The spears were just sticks with pointy ends, not sharp. Dust flew up as they moved, and the air smelled like sweat and trees.

Spears are good for beginners fighting monsters, I thought. I leaned on a fence to watch. Swords are cool, but if you’re weak, they don’t cut monster skin. Spears put all your strength in one spot, so they work better. I nodded to myself, watching them stumble around.

NPC Guard looked at me while I stood there. His eyebrows scrunched up. Alex never comes to training, but he’s here now, he thought. He’d been worried about me because I skipped his lessons. I wasn’t like the other guys who practiced every day. He waved me over with his big hand.

"It’s good you’re here," he said in his rough voice. "I was worried since you don’t train. Join us today." He sounded like he really wanted me to try. He stood tall, hoping I’d say yes.

I brushed some dirt off my sleeve. "I’m okay," I said calmly. My special skill made me strong already. I didn’t need to swing sticks with them.

NPC Guard frowned. "A man should protect himself from monsters," he said, teasing me a little. "Or are you gonna run away like a scaredy-cat?" He looked disappointed, like I’d let him down. The other men stopped and stared at us.

I didn’t like his tone. It made me mad. "I’m strong without training," I said, standing up straight. I knew my skill made me better than they thought.

He laughed a little, not believing me. "You? Stronger than my trainees? You’ve never even practiced with me," he said. He crossed his arms and looked at me like I was joking. The villagers started whispering to each other.

I smiled a bit. "There are other ways to get strong," I said, keeping it mysterious. My skill was my secret, and it was all I needed. The whispers got louder around us.

NPC Guard rubbed his beard and grinned. "If you’re so sure, let’s make a bet," he said. He stepped closer, and I could feel the challenge in the air.

"What bet?" I asked, interested now. My heart beat a little faster, excited for something fun.

"If you can beat someone I pick in a fight, I won’t bug you about training," he said. He looked proud of his idea, thinking he’d win.

I acted like I was thinking hard, but inside I was happy. If I win, maybe he’ll let me leave the village, I thought. That would be awesome. "Okay, I’ll do it," I said with a small smile.

NPC Guard smiled bigger. "Woolie, come here!" he shouted.

Woolie, a skinny guy with messy hair, looked shocked. "Me?" he said, pointing at himself. His voice shook. He’d been standing back, holding his spear, not expecting to fight.

"Yes! Fight Alex with your spear," NPC Guard said, pushing Woolie forward. He sounded super sure of himself.

Woolie’s mouth fell open. "You can beat Alex," NPC Guard told him, patting his back hard. Woolie almost fell over from the pat, but NPC Guard looked confident.

The villagers didn’t agree. They whispered and stared. Woolie was short and thin, only 170 cm. I was taller, 185 cm, and strong from my skill. Even with training, Woolie wasn’t great. Everyone thought I’d win easy.

Woolie gulped. "Can it be someone else?" he asked quietly. He looked at me, then at NPC Guard, scared to fight.

"No, you can do it," NPC Guard said. "You’ve trained hard." He tried to cheer Woolie up with a big smile.

"Really?" Woolie said, his eyes getting a little brighter. He wanted to believe it.

"Fighting with a spear is different from bare hands," NPC Guard said. "You can win." He sounded so sure, like he was selling Woolie a prize.

"Okay!" Woolie said, nodding fast. He stepped forward, looking ready now. His face was serious, and he held his spear tight. The crowd got quiet, watching him.

I smirked. It was funny how brave he got. I walked toward him slowly, ready to show what I could do.

"Need a weapon?" NPC Guard asked, holding out a spear for me.

"Nah, I’m good," I said. That stick wouldn’t even scratch me. I’d beat Woolie with my bare hands. I wasn’t worried at all.

NPC Guard nodded. "No hitting important spots. Start!" he yelled, raising his hand. Everyone held their breath.

Woolie stood ready, his spear pointed at me. He waited for me to get close. I walked slowly, hands relaxed, thinking how to finish this fast. Woolie’s eyes followed me, and he looked nervous.

I can’t even dent a log Alex broke with one hit, Woolie thought. He remembered me splitting wood like it was nothing. If he gets near me, I’m in trouble. His hands got sweaty, but he held his spear tighter.

I got close, and Woolie moved. "Hah!" he shouted, pushing his spear at my chest. It made a cool swish sound as it flew toward me. He tried hard, his arms shaking.

But it was too slow. I stepped to the side, and the spear missed me completely. Woolie tripped a little, surprised. The crowd gasped.

If I miss, it’s his turn, Woolie thought, remembering NPC Guard’s lessons. He stepped back fast, pulling his spear with him. But he knew he’d messed up. It was too easy to guess what he’d do.

That’s all his training does? I thought. I’d let him try, but it was so slow I almost laughed. I dodged easy and moved closer to finish it.

Woolie backed up, pulling his spear. He didn’t even look at me, too busy moving. Training doesn’t matter against real power, I thought. I jumped forward fast, aiming my fist at his stomach.

Bam!

My punch hit hard. "Ugh!" Woolie groaned, dropping his spear. He fell to the ground, holding his belly. His face scrunched up in pain, and he could barely breathe.

"Stop! That’s it!" NPC Guard shouted, running over. He waved his arms and stopped between us. Dust flew up, and he looked at me, surprised but kind of impressed.
