I can upgrade the shelter-Chapter 724 - 622: Set Off
While Chen Xin was working with weapon experts to study how to build escort ships that could accompany the land aircraft carrier, the alien creatures seemed finally to have recovered from the storm's impact and launched another attack on the Dongting Lake Region defenses.
This was, of course, anticipated by the high command and military. In fact, the surprise for the military was that it took this long for the aliens to resume their offensive.
After all, although the previous storm caused significant damage to the aliens, what was lost were merely the alien combat subunits that had broken through the ground.
Despite their large numbers, the military felt that the losses were not significantly different from the regular losses incurred by aliens during their attacks.
Thus, the fact that the aliens delayed their renewed assault for so long surprised the military, worrying them that the aliens might be plotting some other scheme or attack plan.
However, under satellite surveillance, no unusual activities were detected.
Faced with this situation, the military could only reinforce the defenses and instructed everyone to remain vigilant against the aliens' possible conspiracies.
Yet, the aliens seemed to have merely returned to their pre-storm offensive stance without showing any particular differences.
Meanwhile, the humans, during the ceasefire period brought by the storm, further reinforced all defense lines, not only enhancing their capacity to withstand alien assaults, but also installing more defense machine guns and heavy artillery.
With satellite monitoring, humans now effectively had a full map view, observing every movement of the alien creatures with clarity.
Previously, due to insufficient lighting, artillery fire relied heavily on pre-designated bombardment zones, resulting in blind firing, and the effectiveness, as well as hits, depended entirely on feedback from front observation posts and aerial adjustments.
But these, too, were affected by poor lighting, diminishing the effectiveness of the bombardments.
As light returned and satellites were back online, humans could once again deliver precise artillery fire and missile attacks.
Large missiles were directed to strike the alien passage exits, cutting off their supply lines, and carpet-like artillery fire annihilated the advancing alien forces, eliminating the need for air force bombardments as the combined efforts of the army and rocket forces eradicated a wave of alien attacks.
So many machine guns on the frontline didn't even get much of a chance to fire because, once the supply lines behind were cut, the aliens could no longer fill in the gaps cleared by artillery bombardment with their swarming numbers, leading to fewer combat subunits reaching the defensive lines.
Thus, the pressure on the defense suddenly seemed to reduce significantly, no longer carrying the pressure of an imminent breakthrough.
Such a scenario both relieved the military and made them cautious, as no one could guarantee that this wasn't part of an alien scheme.
While the results weren't unexpected given the situation, the ease of victory left everyone incredulous.
However, while staying cautious, the military was also swiftly implementing plans to reinforce the European Battlefield.
After adapting to the operation of the land aircraft carrier and mastering the basic operations of the Anti-gravity Device, the carrier and a mechanized reinforced infantry regiment equipped with Power Armor would head north to join forces with additional troops by Lucia, forming a brigade to reinforce the European battlefield.
This reinforced infantry regiment, despite leaving fully manned with all soldiers trained in Power Armor operation, did not actually carry Power Armor, and even had their originally equipped Exoskeletons removed.
This wasn't due to military stinginess, unwilling to fully equip them, but was a plan to have this unit, as envisioned by Chen Xin, produce their own equipment along the way as they progressed.
This also served as a test for the 3D printing facilities aboard the land aircraft carrier, to see if they could meet practical needs.
As for the necessary materials, they would be provided by the mines encountered along the carrier's route.
There are operational mines along the way that can directly supply ores and materials, but for those that have ceased operations, the carrier would have to conduct its own mining.
Both the military and Chen Xin were not very confident about this test. Although calculations showed that the extra-large 3D printer specially designed by Chen Xin on board the carrier could meet the production needs for so much Power Armor, the ability to acquire sufficient minerals was still concerning.
In preparation for this issue, sufficient equipment to arm this regiment was prepared domestically to be sent over after they arrive in Europe, establish contact with European countries, and set up a base.
For all members aboard the land aircraft carrier, this would be a voyage unlike any they have had before, and also a substantial test for them.
Before their departure, Chen Xin also provided them another gift as a send-off, which was the design blueprint for the land escort ship, recently completed with great effort by him and the army and navy's weapon experts and designers.
Like the land aircraft carrier, this escort ship is equipped with an Anti-gravity Device, but due to the confidential nature of the Anti-gravity Device, this part was excluded from the blueprint Chen Xin provided.
This means the land aircraft carrier could indeed manufacture land escort ships with anti-gravity capabilities, but could not create Anti-gravity Devices themselves, so the escort ships built would only be suitable for ground use and unable to float and fly.
But this wasn't much of a concern as the Anti-gravity Devices could be manufactured domestically and then transported for installation, causing no issues.
As for escort matters along the route to Europe, equipping the land aircraft carrier with carrier-based aircraft, tanks, and anti-aircraft guns provided sufficient self-defense capabilities.
While facing alien attacks could pose some challenges, it would be no problem at all if certain ill-intentioned individuals attempted to cause trouble.
Moreover, Chen Xin wasn't actually sending the land aircraft carrier solo to Europe.
Although building new escort ships in time wasn't viable, preparing design blueprints was better than nothing. After all, they would only have enough materials and time to build escort ships once they reached Europe, but that didn't mean there were no other solutions.
