I Can Tame Everything!-Chapter 9: Devour! I
Chapter 9 - Devour! I
They growled with haughtiness, pressing their claws into the ground. Both closed in at a deliberate pace, their prideful bluish eyes locked onto him.
Rex shifted his gaze from the true threat—the ranked beast—to his new challengers.
Are they using me for some sort of training? Rex narrowed his eyes casting a wary glance at the ranked beast.
As the ranked wolf stood in the corner—watching, analyzing, yet...doing nothing—Rex's eyes widened in disbelief.
This is my only chance! He smiled, determination flashing in his eyes.
His mind raced, thoughts churning for a way to escape this predicament when an idea suddenly popped into his head.
I'll pretend like...I am struggling and delay the fight until the taming is complete.
Yes, delay. Unfortunately, that was the only thing Rex could do now! And hope eventually everything works out.
The ranked beast was that much stronger. If he tried anything under the watchful gaze of the beast, he feared he would be instantly killed.
[Progress 30%]
Rex focused as the two wolves closed in, circling him like prey caught in their net.
Then...
The darker gray wolf jumped straight at him, widening its jaw to crunch on his neck.
He easily blocked the hungry-looking, sharp canines using his dagger.
The weight pressed in on him, but nothing he couldn't handle.
Now just stumble back a little, Rex. He mused, and stumbled back, pretending to keep the 'I'm struggling act' but with the right balance to show he wasn't weak which might make things boring to the beast.
He slyly glanced at the Ranked wolf keeping an eye on her.
Then, the second wolf pounced on him from behind with great speed going for his neck as well.
After noticing the second beast's attack, Rex decisively, slammed the dark-gray wolf to the other side.
Using its body weight, it easily fell along with him with a thud.
The second wolf lunged, its jaws biting at empty air, as Rex was already on the ground with the other darker wolf.
[Progress 60%]
If Rex wanted, he could easily kill both mortal beasts; that was not the problem. He had killed many mortal beasts in the past two years.
However, he eyed the ranked beast again—The problem. If he killed its young ones, she would definitely kill him in a fit of rage.
Angering the larger wolf was his last option.
Mind you, Ranked beasts were in a league of their own, possessing magical abilities at their disposal...
He had seen and experienced it firsthand, with the hound few weeks ago.
[Progress 100%]
Rex backed away instantly when he saw the system's message.

Two noteworthy things to focus on were the arrow and the loyalty percentage!
System, What is that strange arrow? He quickly asked.
It ranges from 0 to minus 100.
However, the fact remains: The higher their loyalty, the more they will obey the host.>
He didn't know why the loyalty had increased, nor did he care.
Rex could, deep down, feel that the beasts would listen to his commands, but he couldn't tell how far he could push those commands.
Without hesitation, he ordered the Lighter Graywolf with the highest loyalty.
{Go kill your mother,} using telepathy.
Grrr...
He sighed awkwardly. I got too carried away. I can't just give any order, he noted.
He strategized for few moments, then glanced at the two beasts before giving his orders. {You, attack me from the right side, and you, from the left.}
He ordered them, experimenting to see just how far they would obey.

To his surprise, the wolves moved exactly as he commanded.
wow, this is really working. his eyes lit with hope.
A faint, sinister smirk tugged at his lips. Now, I can be aggressive.
As the two beasts charged at his command, he kicked the lighter one on the right side and punched the one coming from the left.
In the next few moments, he ruthlessly beat them.
Soon enough, a notification appeared from the system.
"Oh," he said, his eyebrows lifting in delight.
Beating them increases their loyalty! Rex exclaimed, a look of realization crossing his face.
He glanced at the darker gray wolf, a gleam of intent shining in his gaze.
ROAR!
The ranked beast roared, glaring at Rex with scornful eyes. It began walking steadily toward him.
Rex glanced at the two wolves and commanded, stop her.
The two beasts reluctantly ran toward their mother, positioning themselves to block her path.
Growl...
She snarled and took a step back.
A few minutes later, Rex had ruthlessly injured both beasts considerably.
As Rex struck them, the beasts began to fear him. This shift in their behavior changed their loyalty, trapping them in a vicious cycle.
ROAR!!
The Ranked beast could no longer bear to see her children in agony. With a powerful roar, she unleashed an attack, aiming directly at Rex.
He flinched at the roar, glancing at the ranked wolf. With a menacing gleam in his eyes, Rex hastily ordered the darker gray wolf—the one with lesser loyalty—to protect him.
A razor-sharp wind slash tore through the air, hurtling straight toward him.
But before it could reach its target, the beast reluctantly stepped in between, shielding him from the deadly blow.
The force behind the attack was enough to cleave anything in half—and it did just that.
The dark gray wolf let out a strangled whimper as the slash carved through its stomach, splitting its body in two.
Rex barely managed to dodge the deadly aftermath.
Rex raised an eyebrow. "No way... Is this what I think it is?"
Devouring?—memories, skills, rank, bloodline, soul, and whatnot?
Rex's mind surged with imagination, recalling every novel he had read that carried even the slightest inkling to the word—DEVOUR!
