Chapter 20 - Taming!

Bzzzt!

Rex unleashed the bolt. True to its name, it zapped through the air, striking the thick tree with precision. The bolt drilled a clean hole through the bark, leaving the surrounding edges charred black.

"Amazing," Rex declared, a big smile spreading across his face. "Now, let's try [Earth Pulse]."

Moving away from the tree, Rex approached a large boulder and activated [Earth Pulse].

He felt a subtle connection to the ground, his stance firm, as though invisible weights anchored him.

With minimal movement, he punched the boulder. It shattered effortlessly, fragments scattering, yet his hands remained unharmed–no pain.

"Now, let's compare it without using Earth Pulse," he mumbled, moving toward another boulder.

He punched it similarly. This time, he felt something—not exactly pain, but as if a soft, protective layer had been stripped away, leaving him more vulnerable to the impact.

"Nice. Now I've got both attacking and defensive skills," he mused.

Rex moved, eager to practice [ZAP] a few more times. He raised his arm, and as a bolt of lightning began to form...

"Rex, you're awake?" Darius called out from behind.

"I can't believe it... you've already ranked up to an Ascender," Darius said, his eyes reflecting a mix of jealousy and respect.

Rex smiled and shrugged. "Things happened." Then, shifting the topic, he added, "By the way, I'll be leaving this village."

"Wait... Why? And when?!" Darius sputtered, his voice laced with confusion.

"I can't stay here forever, right? I want to explore the world," Rex explained with a calm smile.

"Then... I'll come with you too. Yes... I've decided. I don't want to stay in this small village either. I want to explore the world, just like you," Darius said, stepping forward instinctively, his expression resolute as he added,

"You remember the goal I shared with you, right? I was being honest about it," Darius said, his sharp gaze locking onto Rex, determination evident in his tone.

Rex blinked, thinking, Why is he so worked up about coming with me?

"I'm sorry, Darius, but I prefer to travel with people I'm certain won't harm me," Rex said, declining firmly.

"Huh? I saw that majestic bird flying around you earlier—will it not harm you? And why the heck would I harm you? I'd never do that!" Darius shot back, his voice laced with frustration.

Rex shook his head. "Arcane is a different matter. She is tamed by me, so we have an understanding between us," he explained, trying to clarify things for Darius.

"So, you don't trust me yet?" Darius asked with a serious expression.

Rex sighed, looking down at the ground as he thought about how to respond. After a moment, he lifted his head, locking eyes with Darius, he spoke honestly.

"I'm sorry to say this, Darius, but no, I don't trust you," Rex admitted.

Darius frowned, nodding with clear annoyance before walking away. But after taking a few steps, he stopped, contemplating something deeply.

Moments passed before he turned back and walked toward Rex.

"Fine, tame me too. I mean, I'll follow you from today onwards. I'll just be changing who I served before. Does this work? And don't tell me no," Darius said firmly, narrowing his eyes.

Without waiting for Rex's reply, he continued, as if Rex had already agreed...

"And you better take everything in this world like you proclaimed,"

Darius challenged, his sharp gaze locking onto Rex. "I don't want to follow a loser like Branick anymore."

"Oh, don't worry. That is the plan," Rex replied with a knowing smirk, his voice deep and serious. "I'm going to take everything this world has to offer, alright."

"Man, I don't know how you can say something like that with a straight face," Darius said, shrugging as he tried to lighten the mood.

Rex shrugged back. "I don't see any problem with it."

"Anyways, do you really mean it—being tamed by me, basically following me?" Rex asked, his tone turning serious. "You have to take responsibility for your words, so answer carefully."

"Of course, I'm serious... My lord," Darius teased with a grin, bowing like a performer at the end of a show, one hand on his stomach and the other stretched out.

"Ahem... Rex is fine," Rex said, correcting Darius. A faint smile crossing his lips, as he was never treated this way.

"Right, I almost forgot," Darius said.

"I came here to tell you there's some good money hidden in branick's house.

I searched the whole place but couldn't find anything, can you help in finding it?

If even you can't it, then we'll have to ask the villagers, who are Waiting for that money"

"Is that so? Then let's search one more time with our friend, Let's go." Rex chuckled.

They both walked into Branick's house. After ensuring no one was around, Rex muttered, "Come out."

"Who are you call—" Darius's words froze as his eyes widened in shock. He stumbled back slightly, watching Branick appear before him in a translucent soul form.

"What in the actual fuck Rex... are you Yama or something?!" Darius yelled, his voice trembling as he instinctively grabbed a nearby stick, holding it like a weapon.

"Don't worry, he won't bite," Rex jested, trying to calm Darius down.

His gaze shifted to Branick, now appearing as nothing more than a translucent soul form.

[Name: Branick]

[Entity: Soul]

[Time left: 2 days]

"Now, tell us where all the money is," Rex commanded firmly.

"Why should I? Release me already, you devil," Branick retorted, his tone laced with defiance.

System, can I hurt him?

The system replied concisely.

Rex stepped toward the soul and, with slight hesitation, threw a punch at Branick. His hand passed effortlessly through the ethereal form, ripples echoing through the translucent figure.

However, Branick felt his soul chipping away, a strange sensation washing over him. Panic set in as he realized that if he endured more of these punches, he might not remain...Eternally!

"I-I'll show you," he conceded, his tone laced with reluctant defeat as he suppressed his ego.

Branick led them to the kitchen fireplace and pointed to a charred stick. "Twist the top," he instructed.

Darius did so, revealing a hidden key. "Now, insert it into the top of the fireplace and twist," Branick added.

Click.

The front wall opened up, Revealing a treasure chest.
