Chapter 171: Gifts For My Husbands

[But as a reminder, the weapons in the market are very expensive, though they are worth buying.]

Roxanna’s eyes moved quickly across the glowing panels of the system’s market. Weapon after weapon flashed before her. There were blades, spears, whips, bows, and even strange tools she didn’t even recognize.

There were weapons made for close combat and others meant for long-distance attacks. There were so many choices, but the prices shown all exceeded 15,000 SP, a cost that could be considered extremely expensive.

[If I buy three weapons, that means I’ll have to spend 45,000 SP,] Roxanna thought bitterly. [That’s so expensive! I’d lose almost everything I gained from my last mission!]

Roxanna let out a soft sigh. [But... 45,000 SP is nothing compared to Azul’s safety.]

Before she could choose any weapons, Calen spoke, "Roxanna."

Roxanna turned to him and let him continue his words. "Since you’ve never used a weapon in battle, let Azul and me fight for you."

"It’s not that I doubt you," he added calmly. "But using a weapon without experience is dangerous. You could get hurt... or accidentally hurt someone else."

His reason wasn’t entirely relevant, because Roxanna didn’t mind if she got hurt. However, the words "someone else" immediately made her realize that Calen was right.

In truth, Calen simply didn’t want her to spend her Spirit Points. He didn’t fully understand what SP truly meant, but he knew that Roxanna had gone through many hardships to gather them.

"I see..." Roxanna said, lowering her head slightly. At the same time, she felt a bit relieved that she didn’t need to buy three weapons.

Well, if she could keep her distance from the monster, she could still use the magical bow. At least, it guaranteed that her arrows wouldn’t miss.

If that was the case, why had she even considered buying a new weapon for herself?

[You were probably just thinking that trying a new weapon would be cool, Host.]

Roxanna was about to argue with the system, but after thinking about it more carefully, she realized that was likely true. After all, who wouldn’t feel tempted to try a weapon when faced with so many impressive choices?

"Then... what kind of weapon do you want?" Roxanna asked quickly. She had already realized she couldn’t afford to waste time while Azul’s fate remained unknown. "An axe?"

Calen nodded. "An axe is fine," he said. Then he added, "And for Azul... a spear would suit him better."

Roxanna blinked. "A spear? I’ve never seen him use that kind of weapon."

Calen nodded. "Yeah, he never used one here because... the evil Roxanna restricted our weapons. But he once told me that he liked using a spear, even though he couldn’t remember why he liked it so much."

So... when Azul said he had memories of being a fish, he wasn’t lying? Oh, her poor fish husband truly didn’t remember anything about his past.

"Alright, then," Roxanna said firmly. "I’ll find good weapons for both of you!"

Roxanna then spoke to the system. [Give me good recommendations for Calen’s and Azul’s weapons.]

The system responded almost instantly. [Analyzing combat compatibility...]

Several glowing panels shifted and rearranged before Roxanna’s eyes. Weapons rotated slowly, each accompanied by lines of information.

[Recommended Weapon for Calen:]

[Name: Titan Splitter Axe

Type: Heavy Combat / Close Range

Attributes: High damage, armor breaking, shock impact

Price: 21,000 SP]

[Recommended Weapon for Azul:]

[Name: Wind Piercing Spear

Type: Speed Combat / Mid Range

Attributes: Enhanced agility, precision boost, penetration

Price: 18,500 SP]

Roxanna almost choked on her own saliva when she saw the number of Spirit Points required. Those weapons nearly reached 40,000 SP. So expensive!

She took several deep breaths, closing her eyes because she needed to think clearly before making a decision.

[They’re so expensive, but... if my husbands like them, then isn’t that what matters most?] Roxanna thought.

[Calen’s stone axe already looks terrible, almost as if it might break apart at any moment. And Azul might not even remember the last time he held a spear.]

If Roxanna bought those weapons, wouldn’t Calen be happier? Wasn’t there also a chance that Azul might recover fragments of his past?

[Alright... I’ll just think of them as gifts.]

But the problem was... if she bought new weapons for Calen and Azul, she would have to gather even more points to buy new weapons for her other husbands as well.

Well... she would think about that later. More precisely, after she had escaped from this place.

[Okay, I want to purchase the weapons,] Roxanna said to the system.

[Purchased 1 Titan Splitter Axe: 21,000 SP]

[Purchased 1 Wind Piercing Spear: 18,500 SP]

[Total Purchased: 39,500 SP]

[Remaining Spirit Points (SP): 139,900]

Well, that number was the same as before Roxanna received the rewards and bonus points from her latest side mission.

Besides, as one of the weapons—the axe—appeared out of thin air and landed right in front of her, she could see Calen’s eyes sparkle, almost like a child who had just seen his dream toy.

The Titan Splitter Axe looked nothing like his usual stone axe. It was still made of stone, but it seemed different, far different, even.

The surface of the Titan Splitter Axe was smooth, polished to an almost unnatural sheen. Faint lines of light ran along the blade. She didn’t know what kind of stone had been used to create that axe, but the crafter must have been incredibly talented.

Not only that, the handle was nothing like the rough wooden shaft of his old weapon. The handle of the Titan Splitter Axe was wrapped in a dark, leather-like material, as if designed to mold perfectly to the wielder’s grip.

"T-This is amazing," he said, his eyes still shining. "I’ve never seen a weapon like this before."

Roxanna smiled when she saw her husband looking so happy. "I hope the axe helps you fight more easily," she said softly.

Even though Calen clearly wanted to continue admiring the weapon in his hand, he forced himself to look away. The situation they were in did not allow for long moments of awe.

Azul was still missing in the darkness, so they had to hurry and find him. Calen tightened his grip around the Titan Splitter Axe, his expression gradually turning serious again.

"It will," he said.

Roxanna’s gaze softened briefly before she nodded. "Good." She added, "Should we go after him now?"

Calen offered his other hand to Roxanna. "Yes, but let’s stay together."

Roxanna nodded. "Of course."

She had absolutely no intention of suddenly splitting up along the way. After all, people in horror films always died quickly when they separated.

Together, they stepped forward.

The moment their feet crossed into the western path, the air around them shifted. It felt colder — so cold that Roxanna felt as if she had returned to the Golden Mountain.

Not only that, whether it was just her imagination or not, the atmosphere within the darkness felt incredibly heavy, as if an invisible weight were pressing down on her.

She tightened her grip on Calen’s hand, unwilling to let go even slightly. She believed that if she released him, they might struggle to find each other again.

Tring.

Roxanna flinched at the sound of the bell ringing from somewhere ahead, a sign that they were moving along the correct path.

"Can you see anything?" Roxanna asked. "It’s so dark. Even my night vision is barely working."

"I’m having trouble too," Calen said.

Between dogs and foxes, some say foxes can see better in the dark. If that were true, it made sense that Calen seemed to struggle more than Roxanna.

After all, this place was completely dark. Even the sky above them had vanished, as though they had stepped into another dimension.

"Have you walked through this darkness before?" Roxanna asked.

"I have." Calen swallowed hard, and the fear he had desperately tried to bury began to resurface. "But it wasn’t this dark. Even so, I still struggled to find a way out."

He went on to explain that he had once wandered through the darkness alone. He ran and kept running until he could no longer feel his legs.

"I even decided to just lie on the ground because I thought there was no point in searching for an exit," Calen said. "I... I had actually intended to die there in the darkness."

"But?" Roxanna asked.

"But then, I heard your voice." Calen stopped walking for a moment. He turned toward her, and even though he was struggling to see, he still tried to focus his gaze on Roxanna. "I heard you call my name. Your voice sounded faint, but I knew it was you."

Roxanna softened her gaze and held his face with her other hand. "Was that recent?"

Calen nodded. "Yes," he said in a low voice. "Just a moment before you and Azul came to pick me up."

She sighed, finally understanding why Calen had looked so terrified when she found him in the corner of the maze. He must have been utterly exhausted and hopeless.

"I’m sorry," Roxanna said softly. "I should have come to you sooner."
