Chapter 108: Unusual Entertainment (1)

[I thought he was angry... and that he wanted to throw the dagger at my face.]

Zeir paused when he heard Roxanna’s thoughts. For a moment, he looked surprised, then he understood that her ex-husband probably used to do things like that all the time. Throwing things away when he was angry, like it was normal.

Zeir’s gaze softened even more. "And I’m not mad at you," he said, his voice gentle as he looked at her. "I just... I think you’ve already done so much for us today, so you don’t need to use your blood anymore."

Then he added, "For now, how about you help us clean our wounds instead?" He looked at her carefully. "Do you want to do that?"

Roxanna stayed silent for a few seconds, as if she was still trying to believe him. Then she finally nodded, and smiled. "Alright!"

[Ah... I really thought he was that angry at me.] Roxanna sighed in her mind. [Well... it’s not like they can’t get angry. But it’s just scary when a man looks like he’s holding too much rage.]

She knew the beastkins were naturally rough with each other. They were loud, blunt, and sometimes even looked scary. But that didn’t mean they were abusive.

Still, even now, loud voices and rough attitudes could sometimes trigger her even though she knew her husbands would never be like her ex.

After all, trauma didn’t disappear just because she understood the truth, and the fear could still come back without warning.

"Leader! Do you want us to cut up the Demon Fenrir now?!" one of the warriors asked excitedly.

Roxanna shook her head right away. "No. Just leave the Demon Fenrir behind my hut, and you can cut it tomorrow." Then she added, "For now, it’s better if you all rest first."

They then did what she ordered. Even though it felt a bit terrifying to see the dead Demon Fenrir behind her house, Roxanna thought it was the safest place to keep something so valuable.

The moment Roxanna and her husbands returned to the hut, they immediately laid Luan down on the floor mattress.

Unlike before, when Luan was severely injured after impulsively jumping into the Demon Fenrir’s ravine, now he only had an injury on his leg.

Yeah, it was still bad, but at least the other parts of his body barely had any scratches.

Based on Zeir’s explanation, it seemed like Luan was their archer, so he didn’t need to be too close to the Demon Fenrir.

When Roxanna placed some herbal plants on Zeir’s chest wounds, she realized that Calen was oddly quiet right now. He only nodded even when Luan mischievously threw a small pebble at his head.

Usually, they would argue because of that, but for some reason, he didn’t even have the desire to bicker with Luan.

"Calen, what’s wrong?" Roxanna asked softly. She looked at him with worry, afraid that he was secretly badly injured but didn’t want to say anything.

"I’m fine." Calen suddenly stood up, then walked toward the bedroom that was separated from the common room. "I’m just tired. Is it alright if I sleep here tonight?"

Roxanna nodded. "Yes, of course." She also stood up. "Do you want an extra blanket?"

"No, it’s fine." Calen smiled at her, and he didn’t even ask her to sleep with him tonight. "Good night, Roxanna," he said warmly, like he was trying to act normal.

"Good night," she replied, confused.

The moment Calen closed the door, Roxanna stared at it for a few seconds. His sudden quiet behavior was truly confusing, and even her other husbands were confused too.

"Did he get hurt earlier?" Roxanna asked as she turned toward Zeir.

Zeir frowned slightly, also confused. "Yes... but it wasn’t anything serious. Just a scratch on his arm," he said. "And it already healed a long time ago."

Then why did Calen act like that?

"He’s probably just really tired, like he said," Azul suddenly spoke up, trying to calm everyone down. "Just leave him alone for now. He might feel better tomorrow morning."

===

But even when morning came, Calen still didn’t open his bedroom door. Roxanna waited, and waited, yet the door stayed shut, like Calen didn’t want to be seen at all.

In the end, Roxanna couldn’t take it anymore. She slowly opened the door just a little, careful not to make noise, and peeked inside.

Calen was lying on the mattress, but he wasn’t sleeping peacefully. He was curled up, hugging his own legs tightly, like he was holding himself together.

"Calen... are you awake?" she asked softly.

There was no answer. She only heard the soft sound of him snoring, like he was still deeply asleep.

Maybe... he really did need more rest.

Maybe he was simply exhausted.

So she slowly closed the door again, even though her heart was still full of worry.

Meanwhile, Luan still hadn’t woken up either.

But that was very normal, considering that last night Azul had treated the wound on his leg with crushed herbs mixed with water. Even though he didn’t show any significant expression, Roxanna knew it must have hurt.

His leg looked fine now, but it was better to let him sleep more.

Just as Roxanna was thinking that, someone suddenly appeared at the front door of her hut. "Leader! Can we cut the Demon Fenrir now?!" one of the warriors asked excitedly.

He was practically bouncing on his feet, unable to hide his excitement, like a child who couldn’t wait to light fireworks.

Roxanna quickly raised a finger to her lips. "Shh... don’t talk too loud," she whispered.

Then she carefully stepped outside and quietly closed the door behind her, making sure Calen and Luan could keep sleeping peacefully inside. After that, she nodded. "Alright. Let’s cut it now."

The warrior’s face lit up. "Understood!"

He immediately rushed toward the back of the hut.

When Roxanna followed him, she saw that the others were already waiting there. Her husbands... the warriors... and even some of the settlement residents had gathered around the headless Demon Fenrir, forming a wide circle as if they were watching something exciting.
