I Became the Eye Candy: Four Bigshots Claimed to be My Dad?-Chapter 59: Not That I Think You’re Good-looking
Ye Qianning obediently walked over. For the past few days, the Old Madam had been giving her the cold shoulder. To see her suddenly smile so kindly was honestly a little chilling.
"Young Master Zhan, this is my granddaughter," the Old Madam said to Zhan Chi, patting Ye Qianning’s head.
"Miss Xiang is quite lovely. You’re very fortunate, Old Madam," Zhan Chi said with a smile.
The Old Madam beamed at his words. "Yes, very fortunate."
The exchange was enough to make Ye Qianning want to throw up last night’s dinner. ’These two are such incredible actors with their straight faces.’ She secretly glared at Zhan Chi. ’Is he out of his mind?’
"I hear Miss Xiang only recently arrived in the Capital City. I imagine she hasn’t had a chance to look around yet. What a coincidence—I happen to be free today. I could take Miss Xiang out for a stroll." Zhan Chi completely ignored Ye Qianning’s glare.
"Well..." Old Madam Xiang hesitated.
"We should wait for the General to return," Liu Shi said.
"Wait for what? I’m only taking Miss Xiang out for a stroll. Surely Old Madam Xiang isn’t afraid I’ll lose her, is she?" Zhan Chi remained unhurried.
"Of course not..." The Old Madam was in a bind.
’Even though I don’t like this child,’ the Old Madam thought, ’I can see how much my son dotes on her. If anything happened to the girl, I would have a difficult time answering to him. But the young master of the Zhan family is standing right in front of me, and I can’t very well refuse him. This is truly a predicament.’
"So, you can rest assured, Old Madam." Zhan Chi stood up as he spoke and beckoned to Ye Qianning. "Miss Xiang, whatever tasty treats or fun things you want, it’s all on me today."
Ye Qianning wanted to refuse, but his smile held a subtle threat. ’It’s as if he’ll reveal some earth-shattering secret if I dare say no.’
"Since this mister is being so generous, I won’t be shy." She looked up and beamed.
Since the two people at the center of it had agreed, the Old Madam and Liu Shi could hardly object further. They could only watch as Zhan Chi led her away.
The moment they left the General’s Estate and were inside the carriage, Ye Qianning could no longer hold back.
"What did you bring me out here for?"
Zhan Chi settled into his seat in the carriage and scoffed. "I have no interest in taking credit for someone else’s work." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"You already sent a gift, and I accepted it. Is there something else?" Ye Qianning asked.
"Nope."
"Then I’m off."
"Wait..." Seeing her move to get out of the carriage, Zhan Chi reached out and grabbed her arm. Then he called to the driver outside, "Get moving."
Ye Qianning frowned in confusion.
Zhan Chi cleared his throat. "Since we’re already out, we might as well look around."
’This guy is definitely not right in the head,’ Ye Qianning thought.
"Don’t get the wrong idea," Zhan Chi said hurriedly as he met her gaze. "I just felt a little bad about getting all the credit, that’s all."
"Fine. Since Young Master Zhan is being so sincere, it would be ungracious of me to refuse again." Ye Qianning averted her gaze and said no more.
Zhan Chi secretly sized up Ye Qianning. Her cheeks were fair and her skin was flawless. ’She’s not ugly, on closer inspection.’
’That day in the restaurant, the little girl’s makeup was so heavy that it threw me off. Actually, this chubby little girl is quite pretty—several times prettier than other children, even.’
"Is there something on my face?" Ye Qianning couldn’t help but ask.
Caught staring, Zhan Chi instantly looked away. "It’s not like I think you’re pretty."
Ye Qianning: "..."
Zhan Chi rubbed his nose. ’Strange,’ he thought. ’Why am I getting so nervous in front of a little kid?’
The carriage entered the bustling marketplace and slowed its pace. Ye Qianning lifted the curtain. It seemed they had just reached Zhengyang Street, which was only one street away from the city gate.
"Why are so many carriages entering the city today?" Ye Qianning wondered aloud.
