Chapter 47: Even a Crazy Person Is No Exception

"Father, who was the first to rush in, and who shouted that you used poison?" Ye Qianning asked.

Xiang Minghou’s gaze flickered to the Guard Commander and the young servant.

"Arrest them," Ye Qianning said.

Without the slightest hesitation, Xiang Minghou waved his hand, and two figures restrained the young servant and the Guard Commander.

"The Prince Mansion’s security is airtight! We wouldn’t miss the slightest disturbance," the Guard Commander struggled.

"Old Princess Consort, Your Highness, this servant and Guard Zhang were standing watch right at the door. We heard the Old Prince cry out in anger with our own ears, and then he smashed his cup and collapsed," the young servant wailed.

"Treason! This is treason! How dare you commit murder in the Helian Royal Mansion! Son, you saw it all! Why haven’t you arrested them yet?" The Old Princess Consort was over sixty years old, her eyes bloodshot and her expression terrifyingly savage.

Prince Helian frowned. He couldn’t bring himself to believe Xiang Minghou would do such a thing. "These two do indeed require further investigation."

"The witness and evidence are both here! What more is there to investigate? Your father doted on you so, and now his life hangs in the balance, yet you remain indifferent to his murderer and even indulge them in their violence!" The Old Princess Consort grabbed hold of Prince Helian.

Ye Qianning couldn’t stand it any longer. "Old Princess Consort, you’re over sixty. Having lived so long, I’m afraid your mind might not be what it used to be." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

’Within these opulent palace walls, there are no pure, idealized loves—only demons forged by their environment.’

’She’s a veteran who survived to the endgame of the palace’s schemes; her mind should be calmer than anyone’s. To be this desperate to frame someone can only be due to her long-standing madness, compounded by an arrogant abuse of her status and age.’

The Old Princess Consort froze, whipping her head around to glare viciously at Ye Qianning. "This is no place for a mere child who still smells of milk to speak."

"If I don’t speak up and let you continue this act, my father will be truly framed." Ye Qianning wrapped her small hands around Xiang Minghou’s neck, her tone surprisingly forceful. "My father would never stoop to something so despicable. I won’t let anyone get away with slinging mud at him, not even a madwoman—"

Prince Helian’s heart suddenly sank. His deep eyes fixed on Ye Qianning. ’How could this little girl tell?’

Although there were many onlookers, the victim was the high-status Old Prince. None of the officials or their families dared to say much. They just lowered their heads silently, each weighing Ye Qianning’s words in their own minds.

In the crowd, however, Qian Fanji seized on the key point. ’Mad?’

’He had heard rumors before that the Old Helian Princess Consort suffered from bouts of madness, but the matter was kept extremely quiet. He himself had only found out by chance. This child only arrived in the Capital City seven days ago. How could she possibly know?’

Xiang Minghou’s heart surged, a strange light glinting in his eyes. Ye Qianning’s words struck him right in the soul. He was being protected by a six-year-old child. When everyone else was too afraid to speak up, his daughter...

At that moment, his heart became incredibly soft.

"Daughter," Xiang Minghou said in a low, emotional voice.

"Father, put me down."

After a moment’s hesitation, Xiang Minghou set the little girl down.

Ye Qianning trotted on her little legs toward the bed. The key to the situation was still the Old Prince.

By now, the poison in the Old Prince’s body had already spread to his arms. The Imperial Physician stood to the side, completely helpless.

Ye Qianning examined the Old Prince’s symptoms. The poison was indeed potent. If they waited for the other Imperial Physicians to arrive, the Old Prince’s life would likely be beyond saving.

"Sir Physician, could I borrow a few of your silver needles?" Ye Qianning said, turning her head.

The Imperial Physician hesitated. How could he dare lend silver needles to a little child to play with? Besides, this was hardly the time for games.

"Give them to her," Prince Helian said in a low voice.
