I Became the Eye Candy: Four Bigshots Claimed to be My Dad?-Chapter 28: The Unfathomable Waters of the Capital City
This group of men sure is carefree.
If a little stick-in-the-mud ran into me, I could really lead them astray.
Sang Yan merely offered a faint smile. Children just needed to spend time together to grow familiar.
Ye Qianning had a good impression of Sang Yan. He was gentle and refined, and his innate temperament gave him a noble air. The Beili Emperor had nine sons, and he was currently the most outstanding of them all.
However, she’d heard that the Crown Prince of Beili was the emperor’s youngest son, who was currently only seven years old. Tradition dictated that the eldest son be appointed Crown Prince, but the Beili Emperor had chosen his youngest. ’The reasons for that must be a palace secret.’
"My Prince, we’ve arrived at Immortal’s Drunkenness."
The carriage stopped, and the driver’s voice came from outside.
"Let’s go," Sang Yan said to Ye Qianning, then stood up and exited the carriage.
Ye Qianning scrambled out of the carriage and was about to jump down when a pair of hands caught her chubby little body. She was then lifted and placed on the ground.
"It’s quite a drop, yet you still dared to jump. You’ll really be in for it if you twist your ankle," Sang Yan said, tapping her on the head.
"I’m fine."
Ye Qianning thought he was a truly gentle person. ’If he ever had children, he’d surely spoil them to death.’
Sang Yan smiled faintly, taking her small hand in his large one and leading her toward the restaurant.
Ye Qianning looked up and stared at the large plaque: Immortal’s Drunkenness. She’d heard the best wine in the entire Capital City was the Immortal’s Drunkenness from this very place, costing a thousand gold pieces a jug. She was a huge connoisseur of alcohol; whenever she saw it, she could barely walk away.
’If only I could get a sip of Immortal’s Drunkenness later...’
When the Third Prince led Ye Qianning into the restaurant, they immediately attracted a great deal of attention. The Third Prince was renowned for his virtue, and many of the Capital City’s wealthy and powerful recognized him, casting furtive glances their way.
Of course, when their gazes fell upon Ye Qianning, their expressions were a mixture of shock, disgust, and confusion...
Most of all, however, they were curious about who this chubby child, painted up like a little ghost, could possibly be. The Third Prince was even holding her hand personally. Amidst all the stares, Ye Qianning followed Sang Yan upstairs.
"I thought the Third Prince didn’t have any children."
"You haven’t heard? I heard the Third Princess Consort adopted a child. That must be the girl."
"Why would she adopt?"
"Because she can’t have any, of course..."
The chatter continued behind them. Ye Qianning had exceptionally sharp hearing, and though she didn’t know Sang Yan very well, her curiosity was piqued by what she overheard.
’Even if the Third Princess Consort was infertile, a Prince wouldn’t just go and adopt a child, would he? How could the Imperial Family’s bloodline be tainted by an outsider?’
’The emperor is making the son of a concubine the Crown Prince, and the Third Princess Consort is adopting a child. Nothing that’s happening seems to follow the historical script.’
’Or could it be that the waters of the Capital City are just unfathomably deep?’
’Those four men who are supposedly my fathers... on the surface, their families look glorious, but in reality, each one is a treacherous pit. If I fall in, it won’t be easy to climb out.’
’The smart move is to get out early. The sooner, the better.’
Sang Yan led her up to the fourth floor, where an attendant guided them to a private room.
Inside the room, Qian Fanji, Zhan Chi, and Gu Shuo were already there, having arrived early. As they waited, each was lost in his own thoughts. The girl was, indeed, Ye Qian’s daughter. And though they felt a sense of aversion, they had to admit that they all owed Ye Qian a debt.
They had given her the Jade Pendants as tokens back then; that was why she had cured them of the Gu worms. When it came down to it, she wasn’t the one at fault—they were.
"Third Prince, please enter."
The attendant pushed the door open, pulling the men from their thoughts and back to the present.
Sang Yan led Ye Qianning into the room. In an instant, all of their eyes fell upon the chubby child who only came up to their thighs. Their pupils contracted, and their expressions went blank.
Qian Fanji: ’So fat.’
Zhan Chi: ’So ugly.’
Gu Shuo: ’A girl. Definitely not my kid.’
