Chapter 22 - Rats Like Goblins

The Goblins appeared in great numbers, their crude weapons trembling in their hands as they came face-to-face with the Elven warriors. However, they stood no chance. Every skirmish ended in complete disaster for the goblins. They were swiftly routed, their bodies piling up in the forests as wave after wave fell to the Elven blades and arrows.

Those who survived quickly fled back to their underground kingdom, sealing the entrances to their subterranean city in a desperate bid to avoid total annihilation.

Now, all that stood between Renjiro and the destruction of the Goblin Territory was a series of sealed tunnels—heavy stone barriers blocking the entrances to the goblins' underground refuge.

Standing before one such entrance, Renjiro surveyed the area with a calm, confident gaze.

Lorien, one of his most trusted commanders, approached him with a respectful bow. "Your Majesty Renjiro," she reported, her voice firm yet reverent.

"We have successfully eradicated all goblin nests in the forest. Now, only the underground Goblin Territory remains. The cowardly creatures have sealed themselves inside, refusing to fight. They plan to hide away and defend their tunnels until the end."

Renjiro let out a small chuckle, shaking his head. "Typical goblins. They think that hiding will save them?" His lips curled into a smirk. "If anything, they've just made it easier for me to wipe them out in one swift move."

Accompanied by three Elven generals, Renjiro and Elaria arrived at the main entrance to the Goblin Territory.

Before them stood a massive pile of boulders, stacked tightly together to completely seal off the tunnel leading underground.

The crude goblin villages surrounding the entrance were deserted, their inhabitants having fled in a panic.

Various household items, half-eaten meals, and abandoned tools littered the area, evidence of their frantic escape.

Renjiro glanced at the blocked tunnel, then turned to Lorien. "What about the other entrances?"

Lorien shook her head. "Same situation. All of them have been sealed shut."

Renjiro let out a low laugh, crossing his arms. "So, they really believe this will stop me?" His eyes gleamed with amusement. "How naive. If they want to trap themselves underground, then I'll be happy to turn their Land itself into their grave."

Raising his hand, he gave a simple order. "Summon the Giant Golems. Have them clear these boulders. I want the tunnels opened immediately."

Lorien placed her fist over her heart and bowed deeply. "As you command, Your Majesty!"

Within moments, the ground trembled as ten Giant Golems arrived at the scene.

These massive beings, towering over everything around them, were descendants of the Giant race, their bodies made of solid stone and infused with ancient magic. With their immense strength, moving mountains was nothing more than child's play.

Under Renjiro's command, the golems got to work. Boulders the size of houses were lifted and tossed aside as if they were mere pebbles. The thunderous sound of rock being torn away echoed through the forest, shaking the ground beneath them.

Within half an hour, the once-sealed tunnel was completely cleared, revealing a dark and eerie passageway leading deep into the heart of the Goblin Territory.

....

The path to the Goblin Territory lay open before them, but Renjiro frowned as he examined the passage.

The tunnel was too narrow, no more than five to six meters in diameter. While this was more than enough for Elven warriors to pass through, it was completely inadequate for the Giant Golems.

At over twenty meters tall, there was no way they could fit. Even if they tried to crawl through, they would likely get stuck, turning the entire operation into a disaster.

If one of them were to get wedged inside, no amount of strength would free them, and the Elves would be trapped underground with no way out.

Renjiro turned to his troops and made his decision. "The Giant Golems will remain here as our guardians. The rest of us will advance without them."

At his words, Lorien immediately stepped forward, concerned in her voice. "Your Majesty, the Goblin Territory is home to five ninth-circle warriors. Without the Giant Golems to shield us, our forces will suffer heavy casualties."

Selena and Lirael nodded in agreement. Aside from the Giant Golems, only Elaria was an eighth-circle warrior. The three of them—Renjiro's most trusted generals—were only seventh-circle. Against five ninth-circle goblin warriors, the odds were clearly not in their favor.

However, Renjiro remained completely unfazed. "There's no need to worry. I already have a plan to deal with those ninth-circle goblins. Victory in this battle will belong to the us and us alone!"

Hearing his unwavering confidence, the three generals exchanged glances before nodding in unison. They had absolute faith in their king. If Renjiro said he had a plan, then he did.

"As you command, Your Majesty!"

Without further hesitation, Lorien, Selena, and Lirael led their troops into the underground tunnel. Accompanying them were ten massive Elven ballistae—powerful siege weapons capable of piercing through the toughest defenses.

Like a massive serpent, the Elven army flowed into the darkness, marching deeper into the heart of the Goblin Territory.

Inside the tunnel, the Elves encountered numerous goblin sentries. However, instead of standing their ground, the goblins reacted in a completely unexpected way.

Their beady eyes widened in shock before they screeched in excitement.

"The Elves are here! And they didn't bring the Giant Golems!" As soon as the words left their mouths, the goblins turned tail and ran, disappearing into the shadows at an alarming speed.

Renjiro sneered at their pathetic display. "Foolish creatures. Do they really think that just because my golems aren't here, the Elven race is defenseless?"

Elaria tilted her head, curiosity in her golden eyes. "Your Majesty, you called them... 'big black rats'? What does that mean?"

Renjiro chuckled, amusement flashing across his face. "I was comparing them to mice. Just look at them—small, cowardly, and always scurrying into holes when danger comes."

Elaria puffed her cheeks in mock indignation. "Your Majesty~" she protested.

It was true that goblins were one of the most widespread cowardly grotesque with underhanded tactics races across the continent, their numbers reaching into the countless millions. To call them mere rats seemed... unfair.
