Chapter 283: Chapter 283 Unfair

Alina laughed through her tears, her heart so full it almost hurt. "Oh, my sweet troublemakers... you all missed me that much?"

Finally, she let Sable go. The little boy’s face was glowing with joy, his soft hair sticking up from her hug, and his dimples refusing to hide no matter how hard he tried to act calm.

"Okay," she said, putting her hands on her hips in mock sternness. "So, Teacher was on leave because her family member was sick, but why on earth did you all start a protest and bully poor Professor Hobb?"

"Principal lied!" Luna huffed, her golden eyes blazing with righteous fury. "He said there was a wolf cub race and that I’d miss it if I didn’t listen to him—but there was no race! I waited all day!"

A few others nodded fiercely in agreement.

"I didn’t get my peaches!" Felix blurted, crossing his arms. His seven tails puffed up like a cloud of indignation. "He said I’d get fresh peaches, but he never gave any!"

Drake jumped in next, cheeks puffed like a tiny fire balloon. "And Professor Egg made us write essays! Do you know how boring that is? My claws almost fell off!"

Boo floated higher, his tiny ghostly face scrunched up in outrage. "And we didn’t even get the treasure you left for your best students! I searched everywhere—even under Vlad’s desk! Nothing!"

"Because there was no treasure," Vlad Jr. said dryly, brushing invisible dust off his uniform sleeve.

"Not true!" Boo gasped dramatically. "You stole it, didn’t you?! Vampire greed!"

Vlad sighed, looking away like a miniature prince weary of his subjects. "Ghosts shouldn’t accuse nobles without proof."

The class erupted into chatter, little voices tumbling over one another until the whole room felt alive again.

Alina stood there, smiling softly at the chaos she’d missed so much. The sound of their laughter filled every corner she hadn’t realized was empty.

"Alright, alright, calm down," she said, clapping her hands gently. "But I heard the Principal gave you all a feast of desserts?" Her brows lifted playfully.

"That’s true!" Drake shouted, his tiny wings fluttering with excitement. "There were cakes, pudding, jelly, and peach pie! I love cakes! Teacher, can you show us your treasure? Did you hide snacks inside?!" His amber eyes sparkled like molten honey, and a puff of smoke escaped his mouth when he laughed too hard.

Alina sighed helplessly, though her lips curved into a fond smile. "Calm down, my little fireball," she said. "No more snacks for now—you’ve all had too much sugar already."

Drake pouted dramatically, slumping over his desk as if the world had ended.

"First," Alina continued, her voice turning playfully firm, "let’s talk about Professor Hobb. Why on earth did you call him ’Egg’? That’s very rude!"

Boo immediately floated higher, expression innocent but clearly guilty. "Because he’s round! Like a sunny-side-up egg!" he said cheerfully, twirling midair.

Felix’s tails shook with laughter. "And he turns red like one when he’s mad!"

Luna folded her arms with a proud smirk. "He also banned me from howling during class. That’s rude."

Alina pinched the bridge of her nose, trying not to laugh. "That’s not rude, Luna—that’s called discipline."

Rocky raised his hand shyly. "But Teacher, he shouted when I turned into a rock by mistake. I wasn’t even being bad..."

Her heart melted instantly. She crouched beside him and gave his shoulder a gentle pat, her voice soft and kind. "I know, Rocky. He just didn’t understand. Sometimes adults forget that little babies need patience too."

Drake’s wings drooped as he leaned forward, eyes wide and sad. "And in music class," he said mournfully, "he didn’t let me play the drum!" His pout deepened, and his tail flicked indignantly. "The poor drum was so lonely without me!"

Alina pressed her lips together, fighting back laughter. "I’m sure the drum missed you too, Drake," she said gently.

Before she could say more, Boo floated up again with a furious little huff, his glow flickering brighter. "And he doubted us!" he declared, pointing a tiny finger toward the ceiling as if making a grand accusation. "He made us solve a big, scary math problem—and we did it! All correct! Every single one of us!"

Felix nodded solemnly, his tails puffing like angry kittens. "I even used two brains at once," he said seriously, tapping his head. "But he still looked at us like we cheated!"

Luna slammed her paw on the desk, her golden eyes narrowing. "Yeah! He thought we didn’t even know how to count! Seriously—did he think we were new babies?" she growled, ears twitching in outrage.

Alina couldn’t stop smiling now. The way they defended each other with so much passion made her chest ache with affection. Their innocence, their little frustrations—it was all too precious.

She folded her arms and tilted her head slightly. "Hmm... so you all think Professor Hobb was unfair?"

A loud, unified chorus echoed through the room. "YES!!!"

The sheer force of it made her burst into laughter, shoulders shaking. "Alright, alright, I hear you," she said through her giggles. "But you still shouldn’t have called him ’Egg.’ Even if he... maybe did deserve it a little."

That earned a wave of laughter. Boo spun in the air, glowing with glee. "See? Even Teacher agrees!"

Alina sighed, smiling helplessly. "You’re all... I don’t even know what to do with you anymore," she murmured fondly.

"Just give us lots of snacks!" Drake said immediately, bursting into laughter. His little wings fluttered behind him, and soon the entire class joined in, their giggles echoing through the room like tiny silver bells.

Alina shook her head, though her eyes softened. "You little tricksters," she whispered under her breath, a smile tugging at her lips as she picked up her attendance sheet. One by one, she began calling their names—each answered with either an exaggerated "Here!" or a mischievous "Present, Teacher!"

Sable’s quiet "Yes, Miss Alina" made her heart melt. Felix saluted dramatically, and Boo, of course, tried to answer for everyone until Luna smacked his arm.
