I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 281: The kind of person he loved
Chapter 281: The kind of person he loved
If you should ask John about the best kind of job on Earth, he would tell you that he is working as a data analyst for the Hero Association of Fairview. Fairview was full of mountains making it the perfect place to station soldiers to protect the Capital thousands of years ago.
Armies and their family filled the town, causing various merchants to flock to the town. It was incredibly prosperous.
However, in modern times, Fairview is not as loved as it once was. Not while the glamorous ocean city, Lipton and the Capital were so close. But for John, Fairview was perfect.
Fairview was close enough to the Capital for the officials to belong to the Band A salary and yet far enough for housing and food to be very cheap. He lived in a two-bedroom apartment and yet he paid half the price that his girlfriend was paying for a studio in the Capital.
Another reason was that they did not have a high crime rate, which made his job very breezy.
He stood up and took his cup to the water dispenser.
He strode back leisurely, his eyes grazing over the monitor, what he saw next made his cup slip from his hand and fall on the phone.
John rushed back to the seat, clicking on the keyboard. It could not be right. But the levels were as clear as day on his screen. The energy pattern was one the system recognized.
John’s hands shook and he swallowed. He then reached for the large red button on his table, pressing it and sending a large siren sound around the entire building.
"We are under attack!"
As soon as he announced it, his eyes darted back to the computer in front of him, the second screen had started to light up. The red waves on the screen grew higher and higher with each passing millisecond.
A sudden heart palpitation surged through him, almost like an electric shock piercing his nerves. John took three steps backward and then stopped. His eyes were fixed on the screen that monitored Nest Formation. At that moment, his blood began rushing at an alarming speed towards his heart.
Fairview was doomed.

Ravi looked down coldly, his eyes glancing over the thousands of buildings below the mountains.
They did not have any time to waste.
"They are under attack."
Arlen’s brows furrowed and Ravi knew that he understood. This was done to delay them. He looked at the Nest and he could feel it was growing stronger with each passing second.
He reached out to contact his family but he could not reach them.
"You cannot contact the command station."
Arlen nodded. His lashes fluttered as he looked up at Ravi. Those eyes. Those beautiful blue eyes reminded Ravi of the first time he met Arlen.
Clear, strong, and righteous, high moral standards for himself and others, and highly idealistic.
"I am sorry." Arlen apologized.
"Why are you apologizing?" Ravi asked quietly.
"For letting you go all by yourself." Arlen’s voice was a little low but his eyes were bright.
He would not budge. Arlen would not leave the people of Fairview to die under the creatures of the Nest without providing help.
Arlen just could not do it.
This was the kind of person that Ravi felt he hated the most and yet it was this kind og person that made him fall in love without any safety net.
"I will not be there to watch your back. Sorry, love." He reached out to pull Ravi into another hug.
"Ask me," Ravi said quietly as he pulled away to stare at Arlen.
Ravi’s clothes fluttered in the wind. Slightly long hair and eyes that were more gold than grey; he looked like a lofty figure from heaven. Like a god.
"Are you not a police officer? You are obligated to help the citizens of Avalon."
"It is 7:46 am. My shift starts at 8 am. Right now, I am an ordinary citizen. I am not obligated to do anything. Excuse me!"
It was as if they were back in Davenport. To their first point of meeting. Then he had stood on the moral high ground staring down at a stranger but now. He was looking up at his lover.
"Help them, please." Since Ravi asked him to ask, then he would. But Arlen was still very selfish, he could still feel Ravi’s trembling body and the tears that soaked his shoulder.
That night, the tear falling down the cheek of the man he loved cut him so deeply, that it was like an awl wedged in his chest.
The Sentinel who had saved the universe. He did not want his lover to be the hero again. Bearing the weight of the world again...No.
Arlen would never ask him to bear it all again, even if Ravi gave him permission to.
"If you can create a barrier to delay the Monsters for at least 6 hours, I would appreciate it."
"Just a barrier. I can clean the Nest for you. It would not take up to thirty minutes."
Arlen shook his head, "Eight hundred years ago, the first Nest appeared on the Oceanic Island. One hundred and fifty-five people died and the Heroes Association was formed on the graves." He looked at Ravi, "Ravi, you are not obligated to help. Saving the people of Avalon is not your responsibility."
To save people is the responsibility of Sentinels. No, it was more than a responsibility. It was their purpose, the only reason why they were alive.
It was like Arlen was permitting to affirm the words in his mind. He could feel the seal on his lower back burning fiercely.
"Although you are going free, You still have to protect me, Ash, your family, and your friends." Arlen smiled lightly, "And of course, there are the boyfriend duties..." He wriggled his brows.
"Arlen"
Ravi’s voice was the voice of someone scorched, both parched and burning.
"Arlen." Ravi repeated, his face showing an expression that Arlen had never seen before, it was like he could see Ravi about to fly off at any time, "You are right."
He looked free...like the invisible chain holding him back that they could not see had been broken.
"And we have to go." Ravi raised his hand and the atoms rippled, forming a huge barrier around the Nest.
"Each second is very precious."
