I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 729 - 726: A Man’s Affairs (5)
He finished the wine in his glass, turned to go downstairs, and noticed the fruit juice cup she had been drinking from. He picked up the cup, his eyes falling on her lipstick mark on the rim.
Lifting the cup, he stared at the lipstick mark and slowly brought it to his lips, closing his eyes as he sipped the remaining juice.
Setting the empty cup down, he pulled out his cell phone and dialed a number.
"Release the news tonight, and make sure to include several photos."
"Yes, Mr. Leafcastle!"
Hanging up the phone, Nathan gently caressed the cup in his hand. He turned his face to gaze at the portrait of his deceased mother on the wall. "Kris Cooper, I will make sure you lose everything."
「The next morning.」
Vera woke up; it was already past nine o’clock.
She got up and washed her face in the bathroom. Returning to the room, she made her bed. Then, she picked up her pajamas and lightly knocked on the door to Nathan’s room across from hers.
There was no response from inside, so she pushed the door open, only to find the room empty and tidy. It was clear that he had already risen.
After leaving the pajamas at the foot of the bed, she turned to go downstairs when she heard a soft sound from another door nearby.
Vera walked over and was about to knock when she heard Nathan mentioning Kris Cooper’s name.
Her hand, which was about to knock on the door, stopped in mid-air, and she listened carefully.
"Humph!" Nathan put the documents on the table. "This time, I want Kris Cooper to pay for what happened to Vera’s father back then."
"With this document, their Peacock River project’s sales will definitely be impacted severely," the assistant said, smiling. "I heard that this project was strongly backed by Christopher Cooper. The total investment is around seven hundred million. If they can’t sell it, they’ll have to swallow the loss."
Peacock River?
Vera’s eyebrows twitched upon hearing this.
She knew about this project; the promotional photos she took yesterday were for it.
The first phase of the project had been completed and was about to be officially launched.
Given how the conversation was going, was Nathan planning to do something?!
Inside the room, Nathan leaned back in his chair.
"Alright, you go ahead and handle this. Remember, the more sensational, the better."
The assistant was about to leave with the documents when Vera, feeling a sense of urgency, flung the door open.
The assistant’s hand slammed into the swinging door, and the documents spilled onto the floor.
Vera bent down and picked up the documents. The title read, "Peacock River Pollution Report, Small Village Becomes Cancer Village."
There were also scattered pictures on the floor.
In addition to pictures of Peacock River, there were promotional pictures of the Peacock River project and a few close-up photos of villagers’ skin conditions. Just looking at the photos made Vera shiver and feel nauseous again.
She covered her mouth, forcefully holding back the uncomfortable feeling as she approached Nathan with the photos in hand.
"What... what are you planning to do?"
Nathan looked surprised to see Vera but quickly regained his composure. "I’m merely revealing the truth."
"But if this news gets out, the Peacock River Project will be ruined. Do you know how much Ashton will lose?"
Nathan raised an eyebrow. "For money, you’d abandon your conscience?"
"These are unfounded accusations." Vera placed the photos on the table. "After hearing these rumors, we also investigated and conducted water quality tests. Doctors have confirmed this is a skin condition caused by a fungus, completely unrelated to the river water. The river’s discoloration is because the water is somewhat alkaline; it’s not pollution at all."
