After her blood draw and urine test, Vera waited outside the ultrasound room.
The ultrasound room was crowded, many of them noticeably pregnant women.
Some were accompanied by their elders, others by their husbands...
Only Vera Wave stood alone, looking desolate.
One of the waiting girls noticed the document in Vera’s hand and nudged her husband.
"Get up and offer her your seat. She’s pregnant too."
The young man hurried to his feet. "Oh, sorry, I didn’t realize."
After thanking him, Vera sat down. She really was exhausted after running around all day.
"Judging by your appearance, you must be newly pregnant?" the girl asked enthusiastically.
"Yes, that’s right."
"Why didn’t your husband come with you?"
"He... he’s busy."
The girl smiled and advised, "This is your first time, so it’s a bit better, but in the future, make sure you don’t come alone. Running around for all these appointments, you won’t be able to manage by yourself."
"Yes, thank you."
"It’s my turn!"
The girl extended her arm, and her young husband quickly helped her up, guiding her into the ultrasound room. Watching the couple’s affectionate display, Vera sighed softly.
A wave of nausea hit her, and she quickly stood up to find the restroom.
Before she could find one, she couldn’t hold it in any longer and rushed to a trash can.
She retched a few times, only bringing up some sour fluid. Wincing in discomfort, she straightened up. Just as she reached into her bag for a tissue, one was handed to her.
"Thank you!"
After taking the tissue and wiping her mouth, a bottle of water was offered to her.
"No, thank you, I have some..." As she declined, she looked up at the kind person beside her.
When she lifted her gaze, she saw a familiar face. He was frowning, his expression a mixture of faint anger, helplessness, and undeniable concern as he looked at her.
"Kris... Kris Cooper?!"
He had been furious. He’d planned to give her a harsh scolding when he found her. But now, seeing her like this, her face pale from vomiting, all his anger vanished, replaced only by a deep concern.
"Rinse your mouth first," Kris Cooper said.
Vera took the water from him, rinsed her mouth, and spat into the trash can. Kris steadied her by the shoulders and used a handkerchief to gently wipe the moisture from the corners of her lips.
"Feeling better?"
"Yes... much... much better now."
Vera stuttered slightly, feeling a bit guilty.
"Come home with me?" Kris asked.
"I..."
"Vera! Where’s Vera?!" From a distance, an assistant doctor from the ultrasound room was shouting her name. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Ah, coming, I’m coming!"
Vera quickly turned and hurried over. Kris Cooper followed, taking the strap of her backpack. "Let me get that for you."
Her fingers, which had been gripping the backpack strap, loosened their hold. Holding her ultrasound form, Vera walked into the room. Kris Cooper started to follow, but a doctor stopped him.
"Family members must wait outside!"
He had no choice but to wait outside.
Lying on the examination bed as the doctor prepared to examine her, Vera nervously clenched her hands.
"Is your bladder full?" the doctor asked.
"No?"
It was her first time, and no one had told her! How was she supposed to know this was part of the procedure?
The doctor looked at her with a sigh of resignation. "Go out and drink some water. Come back when your bladder is full enough. Oh, and drink some juice; that usually works faster."
With no other option, Vera straightened her clothes and walked out.
"How did it go?" Kris immediately approached her.
