Chapter 708: Chapter 706: Pregnant?! (30)

Lucille Matthias gently nodded, smoothed her hair, and walked out of the cell.

Step by step, she traversed the corridor. Rounding a corner, she spotted Kris Cooper being dragged by several people.

"Bastards... let go of me... let go..."

Upon seeing Vera Wave in the corridor, Kris Cooper stopped struggling.

As the men turned to look at her, Christopher Cooper and Bailey Hansen promptly released Kris Cooper.

Rushing forward to the bars, Kris Cooper gazed at Vera Wave inside the gate.

"Vera..." His amber eyes softened from indignation. "You were joking with me, weren’t you?" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Vera Wave looked through the barred gate at the man, whose suit and shirt were rumpled. She took a slow breath and stopped just two steps away from him.

"Kris, I’m sorry."

The smile on Kris Cooper’s face gradually stiffened, his eyes filling with disappointment.

"Why?" he asked in a hoarse voice.

Vera Wave hesitated for a long time before speaking softly, "I’m tired!"

Kris Cooper’s fingers gradually tightened on the bars. When he spoke again, his tone was gentle, tinged with a hint of pleading. "I know I can be too assertive, wanting to control everything... If I did something wrong, I can change. Please don’t leave me, okay?"

Vera Wave clenched her fists, her hands hanging by her sides.

"Please, let me go!"

"You..." Kris Cooper took a deep breath. "Must you leave?"

Digging her nails into her palms, Vera Wave gritted her teeth. "I must."

Kris Cooper’s body trembled, and his fingers gripping the bars slowly relaxed.

"Fine... Very well!" He turned and strode towards the exit. After a few steps, he stopped and turned back towards her. He raised his hand, tore the divorce agreement to shreds, and then stopped in front of the barred gate again. Staring at her, he said, "You promised me you would never leave! You promised! So, forget it!"

Roaring the last two words, he violently threw the scraps of paper from his hand.

The paper scraps fell like snow.

Punching the iron gate, Kris Cooper leaned closer, his face near the bars, staring at Vera Wave inside, her long eyelashes lowered.

"Unless I, Kris Cooper, am dead, I will never let go!" He stared intently at her trembling eyelashes before growling through gritted teeth, "In this lifetime, you can only be Kris Cooper’s woman."

Turning, he strode towards the exit.

Slightly raising her eyes, Vera Wave watched his figure disappear down the corridor. Then, she respectfully bowed to Christopher Cooper and Bailey Hansen before returning to her cell.

"Vera!" Bailey Hansen stepped forward as if to say something, but Christopher Cooper placed a hand on her shoulder and gently shook his head.

If there wasn’t some reason, Vera Wave wouldn’t have asked for a divorce. Something must have happened between them; it was pointless to say more at this time.

Lucille Matthias turned her head, waved at the staff, and stepped out of the iron gate. Her gaze fell on the scraps of paper on the floor, and she let out a soft sigh.

"I’ll have someone keep an eye on things here. You two go check on Kris. That kid has always been hot-tempered; let’s hope nothing happens."

Bailey Hansen nodded and hurried out after him.

Everyone thought that Kris Cooper would be devastated, as usual.

But in the end, they were all wrong.
