I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 634: Are You Pretending to be Innocent With Me On Purpose?
Discarding the tissue into the trash bin, Vera Wave turned, staring at Liliana Davis’s serious face with evident puzzlement in her eyes.
"What do you want to talk about, Auntie?"
Seeing the other woman’s demeanor, it was obvious she had intentionally sought her out. This attitude genuinely confuses me.
Liliana Davis stepped forward and glanced briefly around the restroom. Seeing nothing else of concern, she refocused her gaze on Vera’s face.
"It’s quite simple. I hope you... stop interacting with Nathan in the future."
Vera Wave had been listening with a smile, but it faltered and stiffened upon hearing Liliana’s words.
"Why?"
We were childhood friends. I still remember how much Auntie Liliana cared for me when I was young; she always brought me gifts from her overseas travels or business trips. Back then, whenever she saw me, she would sigh and remark how wonderful it would be to have a daughter like me. Since I lost my mother at a young age, I naturally formed a bond with her. Dad even jokingly suggested I should ask her to be my godmother. Although we’ve been apart for several years, and we’re not as close as we once were, my memories have been gradually returning these past few days. I’d even started to feel that familiar sense of closeness with Nathan Leafcastle and Liliana Davis again.
But now, Liliana was suddenly asking her to sever ties with Nathan Leafcastle. This left Vera both bewildered and saddened.
Liliana Davis took a shallow breath. "The reason... you really don’t understand?"
Vera frowned. "Auntie, what do you mean?"
"Hmph!" Liliana Davis’s expression grew even colder. "Are you genuinely naive, or are you just playing dumb with me? Can’t you sense Nathan’s feelings for you at all?"
"I..."
Vera was at a loss for words.
Liliana Davis became uncontrollably agitated, her voice filled with pain for her son. "That boy has liked you since he was little; he’s liked you for so many years. I don’t believe... you honestly didn’t know?"
What mother doesn’t dote on her own child? I’m a mother too, of course, it’s the same for me. The thought of my son’s feelings makes it hard for me to remain calm. Truthfully, I don’t want my son to actually be with Vera, yet a stubborn anger still churns inside me.
"When you were children and you were sick, he carried you to the hospital. He broke his leg saving you, and his right knee still aches when the weather is bad..." Narrowing her eyes, Liliana’s voice grew louder. "Do you know how he’s lived all these years? Your picture has always been on his nightstand. He prepares a gift for you every year on your birthday..."
As she advanced step by step, Vera retreated in kind.
"Auntie, I... I’m sorry!"
"Sorry?" Liliana Davis sneered. "Will ’sorry’ heal his knee? Will ’sorry’ erase all the wounds in his heart?!" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
By this point, Vera Wave was cornered with nowhere to retreat. Her foot caught on a raised edge of the floor, causing her to stumble. She swayed, and her back hit the stall door.
"I... I really am sorry."
"What does your engagement have to do with him? Did you think inviting him here would make him happy? Do you think he’d be joyous watching you marry another man? You’re just as selfish as your father!"
"Auntie Davis!" Vera’s brows twitched. "I admit, I... I’ve wronged Brother Nathan. But this has nothing to do with my father. Please don’t speak about my father that way. He’s a good man; he’s never been selfish!"
