I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 525 - 523: Then You Should Wake Up (7)
Her cheeks were flushed from the wine, and her words were a bit slurred; she seemed already quite intoxicated.
Everyone naturally turned to watch them speak. Initially, Vera Wave hadn’t minded. Although she was reluctant for Kris Cooper to interact with Irene Spencer, no matter what, the other woman was the female lead and had a professional collaboration with Ashton; sharing a drink wasn’t significant.
She had previously heard Kris Cooper explain his relationship with Irene Spencer, so she wasn’t surprised to hear Irene say they had known each other for a long time. The others, however, seemed somewhat surprised.
"I had no idea the two of you knew each other already!" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"You could say Kris showed me great kindness when I was at my lowest. There was a time when I was so broke I couldn’t afford meals..." As she spoke, her voice thick with emotion, Irene’s eyes welled up with tears. "If it weren’t for him, I reckon... I would have ended up homeless on the streets..."
"You’re exaggerating," Kris Cooper said calmly. "Your success today is the result of your own hard work; it has nothing to do with me."
"No matter what, for the rest of my life... I will remember you... and your kindness to me!" Irene swayed, looking as if she might fall, and reached out to steady herself on Kris Cooper’s shoulder. "Come... Let’s... toast!"
Glancing at the hand on his shoulder, Kris Cooper promptly stood up.
The gesture seemed like a polite attempt to raise his glass with hers, but he subtly evaded her touch.
"Cheers!"
He extended his glass to tap against hers, then lifted it to his lips.
Across from him, Irene also drained her drink in one gulp. Seeing him lower his glass, she took a step forward and threw her arms around Kris Cooper.
"Kris, thank you..."
"You’re drunk!" Kris Cooper frowned, displeased, turning his head to avoid her face as he raised a hand to grip her wrist. "Miss Spencer is drunk! Someone take her home!"
Vera Wave had been watching the two drink with a casual air, but when she saw Irene Spencer embrace Kris Cooper, her own face clouded with displeasure.
Nearby, Daffa Perkin witnessed the scene and quickly rushed over, taking Irene Spencer’s arm.
"Irene, let me take you home." Irene just clung to Kris Cooper, refusing to let go. Daffa Perkin, aware of his position, didn’t dare to physically compel her. Instead, he tried to coax her, "You’re drunk. Let me take you home, Irene... Please, stop this..."
Kris Cooper’s patience quickly wore thin. He raised both hands, grabbed Irene’s wrists, and forcefully pried her arms from his neck. "Take her away!" he ordered, his voice sharp with annoyance.
Thrown off balance by his shove, Irene staggered back a step, her body swaying as she nearly fell.
Daffa Perkin came forward to support her arm, attempting to guide her toward the door, but she violently shrugged him off and once again stumbled towards Kris Cooper.
"Kris, I... I’ve always wanted to... to tell you something..."
"Irene!" Daffa Perkin hurried over again, firmly gripping her arm.
"Let go of me!" Irene shrieked. "I want to talk to Kris!"
Her shriek instantly silenced the entire hall, stunning everyone.
Everyone lowered their glasses and chopsticks, all eyes turning towards the main table.
"Irene, you’re drunk!"
"I’m not drunk! I’m perfectly sober..."
She snarled, struggling against their hold, stubbornly refusing to yield.
"I just want to tell Kris... All of you... stop pulling me..."
Several actors at the table, seeing that the situation was escalating, quickly got up and rushed over to help Daffa Perkin restrain Irene Spencer, trying to drag her out of the hall.
