I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 519 - 517: Then You Should Wake Up (1)
Watching the girl carefully pack the clothes into the paper bag, Kris Cooper just chuckled.
He knew that Vera Wave had never been particular about these things, nor did she have the habit of competing for glamour at parties or gatherings. It was just her inherent pride that didn’t allow her to admit defeat.
"All done!" After packing the clothes, Vera Wave turned to him and smiled. "You should go take a shower. I’ll ask Mrs. Feng to prepare something delicious for you, to nourish you properly."
Her meaning was simple: he had been busy with work recently, often staying up late, so he certainly needed to boost his nutrition.
The man, however, gave a mischievous smile and lazily leaned against the coat rack.
"What, afraid I can’t satisfy you?"
"Of course!" Her face flushed red, but she pretended to be tough. "Later, I’ll buy you a few pounds of kidneys to really nourish you!"
As she spoke, she swiftly turned to slip away. He reached out to grab her, but it was too late; she had already escaped the walk-in closet. From outside the door, she glanced back, made a face at him, then turned and ran off.
Watching her cheerful retreat, Kris Cooper’s amber eyes, too, shone brightly with mirth.
Everything was just like six years ago. Being with him, every moment from dawn to dusk was filled with joy.
In a few days, once he was done with the public beta, he would make time to take her to America, fulfilling their old promise.
「In the conference room.」
Vera Wave nodded gently. "I think this is a good idea. It can save a lot of filming time and considerably cut costs!"
"I agree too." Merlin Bradley raised her right hand. "We shouldn’t waste Vera’s money."
Everyone chuckled at her teasing.
Vera Wave shot her a sideways glance. "Hey, Merlin Bradley, we’re in a meeting. Can you be serious?!"
"I am being very serious!" Merlin Bradley put on a solemn expression and began her earnest analysis. "Look, we’re planning for Ashton now, and Ashton’s money is the CEO’s money. You two are about to get married, so isn’t the CEO’s money your money? I’m not wrong, am I?"
Vera Wave wasn’t really angry; she was just playing along to liven up the atmosphere.
After all, they had been in a meeting all afternoon, and everyone was tired.
All the decisions for the meeting had been made, and it was drawing to a close; there was no serious business left.
The Planning Department was full of young people. Vera Wave was naturally jocular, an attitude that had spread to the other staff. Even Merlin Bradley, who usually didn’t talk much, was much more cheerful and humorous now.
Vera Wave glanced at her watch. It showed quarter past five, nearly time to leave work. Christoper Cooper, whom she had arranged to meet, should be arriving soon.
"Alright, let’s adjourn the meeting then! Everyone has worked hard these past few days. Let’s clock out on time today, get a good night’s rest. We need to balance work and leisure, so don’t overdo it!"
Just as she was speaking, her phone rang.
Seeing the contact name ’Boss’ on the screen, she quickly grabbed her laptop, walked out of the conference room, and answered Kris Cooper’s call.
"Mr. CEO, what are your orders?"
On the other end of the line, the man’s voice was laced with amusement and thoughtfulness.
"I’m leaving now. If you haven’t started changing clothes and doing your makeup yet, you can still make it if you start right away."
"Got it!"
Vera Wave hung up the phone with a smile and quickened her pace back to her office.
She immediately went into the small restroom attached to her office, washed her face, and carefully applied delicate, light makeup.
