I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 460 - 458: The Only One I Love Is You (2)
"Dear wife, are you preparing breakfast for your husband?"
Teasing all the way into the kitchen, he pushed the door open only to find an empty room.
"Could she have gone to work?"
Muttering to himself, he turned around and walked out of the kitchen to the hallway; her bag and shoes were nowhere to be seen.
"Silly girl, working so hard!"
Kris Cooper gently shook his head, a tone mixed with concern and helplessness.
Crazy as last night was, even he was a bit tired, not to mention that girl, and she still went to work early in the morning?
Walking to the coffee table, he picked up the phone and dialed her number without even looking at the screen.
The sweet female voice on the line wasn’t Vera Wave, but a voicemail prompt.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently switched off."
"This silly girl, did she forget to charge her phone again?"
Kris Cooper shook his head helplessly, quickened his pace back to the bedroom, casually tossed the phone onto the bed, and was ready to head to the closet when his eye caught something on the nightstand. He stopped and turned back.
Immediately he saw a folded quarter-sized A4 paper with a ring on top of it. He couldn’t help but lift his hand to his forehead at the sight of the ring.
"Silly girl, how could you leave something this important behind? What should I even say to you?"
Thinking she had forgotten to put it on and left it on the table, he walked over, pinched the ring, and picked up the white paper, unfolding it in his hand.
At first glance, his fingers tightened around the paper.
On the note was the familiar handwriting. Even without a signature, he could immediately recognize it as Vera’s handwriting.
"I’m sorry, Kris, I’ve left.
Thank you for everything these past days. I wish you to find the girl truly meant for you.
Vera"
There were several creases at the bottom of the paper, which seemed to be traces left by tears that had dried.
Staring at those simple lines, Kris Cooper was just dumbfounded.
She... what does it mean that she left?!
Looking at the note again, he raised his right hand to look at the ring in his palm, still somewhat unable to figure it out.
No fight, nothing at all, how could she just up and leave?
Or perhaps...
That girl’s prank?
The phone buzzed in his hand. He reached for it and saw Tommy Taylor’s number displayed. He answered the call.
"Hello?"
"President, did you know Miss Vera resigned?"
On the other end of the line, Tommy Taylor’s voice was also filled with confusion.
After Kate Palmer received Vera’s resignation letter, she vaguely sensed something was off. If she really resigned, it wouldn’t be without a word.
Having dealt with many such incidents, Kate immediately called Tommy Taylor’s cell to inquire. Naturally, Tommy was unaware as well, so he called Kris Cooper.
Resigned?!
Kris Cooper’s palm tightened around the phone, and his eyebrows shot up anxiously.
"Head to the old house immediately!"
He barked into the phone and then dashed downstairs, grabbing the car keys, still in his pajamas, as he ran out, dialing the landline at the old house.
A moment later, the call connected.
"Where’s Vera?"
"Miss Vera?" Aunt Feng hesitated slightly, "She just left with Grandma Wave, said they were going on a trip for a few days. Aren’t you with her?"
"Damn it!" Kris Cooper cursed angrily, "Which direction did she go?"
