Chapter 419: Chapter 418: The Girl from Six Years Ago (22)

"Yes..." The Hong Kong pyrotechnician furrowed his brow and spoke in halting Mandarin. "There was a problem with the timing setting. It should have been 15 seconds, but somehow it changed to 5 seconds."

Kris Cooper took a deep breath.

"You don’t know why? That’s your explanation?"

"Mr. Cooper!" Another pyrotechnician quickly interrupted, "Please calm down first. I had set the timer before. It wouldn’t have changed unless someone altered it."

Kris Cooper frowned at the two of them. His eyes were intense, his voice solemn as he asked, "So, you’re saying that someone changed the time setting in the computer?"

"Seems like it!" The pyrotechnician nodded fervently. "Although we can’t be sure who did it, it’s certain that someone has changed the time."

Kris Cooper’s eyes darkened. In the set positioning, Vera Wave was the closest to the explosion. If someone really had changed the timer, the intention was clear—to harm her.

This wasn’t just a simple accident! 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Surprise flickered in Vera’s eyes.

She initially thought it was just a mishap, and since she wasn’t gravely injured, there was no need to delve into it too much.

But hearing the explosives experts’ deductions, a wave of apprehension swept through her.

"Are you saying... someone wants me dead?!"

Both men fell silent. Seeing the state of affairs, it was clear that this was a premeditated murder attempt.

"Tommy Taylor!" Kris Cooper inhaled sharply. "Immediately call the police and inform everyone in the crew to return to the shooting location. No one is to leave before the police conduct their investigation."

With that, he leveled his gaze at the pyrotechnician and explosives expert.

"Hopefully, you’re not involved in this. Now... get back to the filming location!"

Everyone kept silent, exiting the ward one by one.

Kris Cooper then turned and gently comforted Vera with a soft caress on her face.

"Don’t worry, I’ll get to the bottom of this. For now, get some sleep."

"Kris!" Vera took a soft breath. "Perhaps... this was really just an accident. Please... don’t act rashly!"

"I know my limits," he assured her with a nod. "I’ll let Tommy stay here with you, and I’ll go check out the filming location, okay?"

"Sure." She gripped his hand tightly. "Promise me... leave this to the police. Don’t intervene."

"Okay."

"Swear it!"

His personality was too assertive; she was just worried he would do something foolish out of impulsiveness.

"Fine, I swear!" Kris Cooper raised his right hand. "I’ll leave everything to the police. I won’t intervene."

"If you do, then let my injury never heal!" she added.

He frowned, unwilling to agree.

But she pouted, insisting.

Helpless, he had no choice but to concede.

"If I intervene, let Vera’s injury never heal."

Only then did she relax her grip and smiled at him. "I believe it may just be an accident. After all, who would dislike me so much!"

Looking at the situation, it really didn’t seem like an accident. However, she hoped the truth wasn’t that someone was plotting to murder her—because that outcome would be too terrifying and treacherous.

"I hope so too!"

Kris Cooper bent down and gently kissed her cheek. "Do you want another drink of water?"

She shook her head.

"Alright, then I’ll go check things out."
