Chapter 413: Chapter 412: The Girl from Six Years Ago (16)

Kris Cooper frowned for a moment, then strode up to the pyrotechnician and the staff members to inquire about the location of the explosion, its scope, and Vera Wave’s specific position.

It was a brilliantly sunny day; though only morning, the sun was already blazing intensely. He stood directly under it, sweat trickling from his brow, yet he continued to ask questions persistently.

Vera Wave finished her makeup and changed into her costume. When she came out, she saw him still standing in the sun, his forehead glistening with a thin layer of sweat. A pang of concern hit her. She hurried over, took his arm, and used her handkerchief to wipe away his sweat. "Don’t worry, everyone here is a professional actor; they’ll be fine. You should go rest in the shade. Be careful not to get sunstroke!"

"Humph!" Anabel Wilton stood in the shade provided by the makeshift tents on set, chatting with the crew while enjoying her ice cream. With envy evident in her tone, she remarked, "I don’t know what good karma Vera Wave accumulated in her previous lives to meet such a wonderful man. If only I had half her luck!"

"Forget half, I’d be satisfied with just one-tenth of her fortune!" the costume designer chimed in.

Irene Spencer walked out of the changing room and overheard their conversation. Her gaze fell on Anabel Wilton, and irritation welled within her. It was one thing for others to comment, but who did Anabel Wilton think she was to chime in like that? Since it wasn’t appropriate to lash out publicly, she simply raised her voice in a low command, "Lucy, get me a water bottle!"

As Lucy went to fetch the water, Irene Spencer lifted her gaze to the distance. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Near the explosion point, Vera Wave, dressed in her costume, stood beside Kris Cooper. The two of them were deep in conversation, laughing merrily. Under the sunlight, he was handsome, and she was sweet. The wind gently lifted the hem of her flowing dress, creating an incredibly idyllic scene. Watching this harmonious picture, Irene Spencer’s jealousy surged to its peak, her eyes full of resentment as she stared at Vera Wave.

"Are all the connections ready?" the pyrotechnician called out from not far away. Irene shifted her gaze to the pyrotechnician’s computer, a sinister glint flashing in her eyes.

"All done."

"Alright then, let’s do a test explosion. Everyone clear the area!"

All staff members cleared out, while the pyrotechnician adjusted the wiring and set the timer. The countdown started from ten seconds and went down to one.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The preset explosion points detonated one after another.

"Very good." The director nodded in satisfaction and gestured to Daffa Perkin. Daffa Perkin immediately picked up the bullhorn to instruct the extras on their positioning and performance.

The director then approached Vera Wave and the few main actors. "In a moment, everyone put on your headsets. Once you hear my command, act immediately and move to your designated locations..." His instructions were detailed, and everyone nodded in agreement. "Remember to prioritize safety. Let’s rehearse once more, but with a minor explosion this time."

Everyone put on their headsets and took their positions.

The director counted down from three into his headset, "Three, two, one..."

At his command, everyone sprang into action according to the plan, and the explosion took place.

"Very good. Let’s go with this approach. Pyrotechnician, bring in the explosives!"

Two pyrotechnicians immediately came over and began setting up the explosives at the actual explosion point.

Kris Cooper greeted Vera Wave as she approached, helping her brush the dirt from her clothes. "Be extra careful, got it?"

Vera Wave replied with a smile, "Don’t worry, I’ll be fine!"

At first, she had been somewhat scared. But after a practice run, and with him by her side, she felt much more at ease.
