Chapter 400: Chapter 400: The Girl from Six Years Ago (3)

"Irene!" Anabel Wilton pulled her aside and sat her down on a chair, speaking in an unmistakably earnest tone, "I know you won’t like hearing this, but I have to remind you, this film is extremely important to you. This is your only chance to make a comeback. You absolutely have to seize it!"

Due to the previous beating incident, Irene Spencer’s public image had taken a significant hit. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

This was a pivotal time in her career; her performance in "Flame" would determine her chances of turning things around.

Taking a deep breath and suppressing her anger, Irene Spencer nodded lightly.

"Rest assured, I won’t let a little slip of a girl ruin me!"

Only she knew the hardships she had endured to get to this point. She would never let Vera Wave destroy her life.

She picked up the script, took a sip of water, tried to calm herself, and began to read it attentively.

Half an hour later, filming resumed. This time, Irene Spencer was much calmer.

The first take had a few minor flaws, but the second one passed smoothly.

"OK!"

A hint of a smile finally touched the director’s lips.

"Everyone get ready, we’re rolling the second scene!"

The second scene didn’t involve Irene Spencer. It mainly focused on Vera Wave and the male lead, Logan Miles.

Although their characters were rivals, Vera’s character unknowingly falls in love with the male lead, ultimately sacrificing herself for him. Her part in this scene primarily consisted of dialogue.

Since this was her first time acting opposite such a major star and they barely knew each other, she struggled with the first few takes. Although it wasn’t an intimate scene, it was still crucial. She had to confess her love to the male lead while holding back tears, on the verge of crying. Vera couldn’t get it right even after two consecutive takes.

For the third take, the director had Rowan Nichols apply eye drops for her. However, she couldn’t stop blinking, which smudged her makeup.

The director frowned in slight annoyance but refrained from scolding Vera directly out of respect for Kris Cooper. Instead, he ordered a brief break.

Daffa Perkin came over and took Vera aside.

"Vera, come, let’s take a short break."

As the makeup artist touched up her makeup, Logan Miles approached and kindly offered her a bottle of water.

"Vera, don’t be nervous. You’re actually quite talented. If it really doesn’t work, just imagine I’m a tree."

Everyone laughed, and Vera joined in.

"I’d probably burst out laughing and break character."

Joking aside, the lighthearted teasing helped ease the tension between them and brought them closer.

Logan Miles kindly chatted with her for a while. By the time the director called them for the scene again, they had become much more comfortable with each other.

Standing before Logan Miles once more, Vera took a deep breath. Looking at the man’s face, she imagined him as Kris Cooper.

This substitution instantly helped her connect with the right emotions, and she effortlessly slipped into character.

"Mr. Miles, I know you despise me, but... my feelings for you are genuine... I don’t want to kill you. But you killed my father, so I have no choice but to kill you!"

Her hands trembled as she aimed the gun at Logan Miles, tears welling in her eyes.

"Push in, close-up... close-up!"

The director excitedly whispered instructions.

Finally, Vera pulled the trigger. However, she missed Logan Miles. Just then, another character nearby fired at her. A burst of blood erupted from her chest. She blinked, gazed at Logan Miles, and offered a faint, tear-streaked smile before collapsing limply.
