Chapter 389: Chapter 389: Never Leave (2)

Initially, she had feared that his parents would be the biggest obstacle between them. Now, however, it seemed things weren’t as she had imagined. Indeed, for her, there was no news more wonderful than this.

She tightened her arms, clinging to the man in her embrace, and lifted her face.

"Okay, I promise you!"

He lifted his face, narrowed his eyes as he gazed into hers, and confirmed once more, "Never to leave?"

Having known him for so long, this was the first time Vera Wave had seen such an uncertain look in his eyes.

So, she wasn’t the only one afraid of losing the other. He was too!

Having experienced this feeling herself, Vera Wave understood his emotions. To love someone so deeply was to fear losing them; even the mere thought could bring unbearable heartache.

Gazing into his eyes, she spoke in a low, firm voice, "Never to leave!"

The man’s lips curved into a smile. Under the light, his smile was as bright as spring returning to the earth, with flowers blooming everywhere.

He tightened his embrace, pulling her closer, and gently cupped the back of her head, pressing it to his chest. "Good girl. My Vera... you’re the best."

His arms enfolded her so tightly that her bones ached a little, but she didn’t struggle. Instead, she hugged him back with all her might.

Tommy Taylor drove the car over. He watched the couple embracing on the steps, a slight smile on his lips as he sat in the driver’s seat. He didn’t honk to alert them, just waited quietly.

It wasn’t until a car approached from behind, its headlights flashing over them, that Vera Wave snapped back to her senses and hurriedly let him go.

"Let’s get in the car and go home!"

"Okay... home!" Kris Cooper agreed, but his steps were already a bit unsteady. Seeing this, Tommy Taylor quickly parked the car and got out to help.

They both helped Kris Cooper into the back seat. His hand still clung to Vera Wave’s as they sat down together. Tommy Taylor then closed the door and started the car.

"Back to the old family mansion?"

Vera Wave turned her head and looked at Kris Cooper, his face flushed from the alcohol.

"Does he have a closer place to stay?"

His grandmother was at the old family mansion, and Vera Wave wasn’t sure if she would still be awake. If not, going back there might be troublesome.

"There’s an apartment not far from here. The Chairman usually stays there," Tommy Taylor informed her.

"Let’s go there then!"

Tommy Taylor acknowledged and turned the car right. Moments later, he drove into a high-end apartment complex.

They helped Kris Cooper upstairs and onto the bed. Once he was settled, Vera Wave turned around.

"Thank you for your trouble, Assistant Tommy."

"My pleasure." Tommy Taylor glanced at Kris Cooper. "If there’s nothing else, I’ll head out now?"

"Okay. Drive safe."

Vera Wave wanted to see him off, but Kris Cooper still had hold of her hand, so she had to stay put.

"No need to see me off. Please take care of the Chairman," Tommy Taylor said.

He tactfully left, closing the door behind him.

Hearing the door click shut, Vera Wave bent down and cupped Kris Cooper’s face.

"Honey, let’s get your clothes off so you can sleep more comfortably, okay?"

"MMHMM," he mumbled, but didn’t move a muscle.

Seeing him like this, Vera Wave could only shake her head helplessly. She reached out to unbutton his shirt. One of her hands was still held by him, making it awkward, so she carefully pried his fingers open and freed her hand.

Before she could reach for his sleeve, he suddenly grabbed her hand. Caught off guard, she was pulled down onto the bed.

Just as she tried to sit up, he wrapped his arm around her, snuggling his head into her chest.
