I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 386 Too Unscrupulous (4)
She extended her finger, lightly caressing the diamond ring, as Liliana Davis let out a long sigh.
"Ah Liang, if only you were still here..."
...
Ashton Real Estate, Planning Department.
"...covering an area of 130 acres..."
Vera Wave diligently recorded the information she had found in her notebook. Halfway through writing, her cellphone rang. Without checking the screen, she answered the call.
As soon as the call connected, Isla Hawskin’s voice scolded jokingly, "Fickle creature, ignoring your poor friends after hooking up with a tall, rich, and handsome man, aren’t you?"
"Ah..." Vera smacked her forehead. "I’m sorry, moneygrabber, I forgot about it during the meeting."
She had originally intended to call her back, but the matter slipped her mind when the meeting began.
"Sorry doesn’t cut it? Skip the chitchat then; you’re taking me out for dinner tonight. I’m already downstairs at your company!"
"I’m still...busy here!" Vera glanced at her watch, realizing it was already past work hours. "Why don’t... you come up first? I have a bit more data to organize. Then we can go for dinner. 45th floor, I’ll meet you at the elevator."
"OK!"
Putting down her phone, Vera finished up the report she was working on, then set down her pen and headed to the door.
Just as Vera stepped into the hallway, she saw Isla Hawskin emerge from the elevator, bag in hand, glancing around. Spotting Vera, Isla immediately smiled and hurried over.
"Come!" Vera, smiling, held her best friend’s arm. "Wait in my office for a bit."
Walking into the Planning Department with Isla, Vera smiled and introduced her to Merlin Bradley and a few other colleagues, then led Isla to her own office.
"Impressive!" Scanning the surroundings, Isla walked over from behind and put her hands on Vera’s shoulders. "Such a big office, you’re at least a manager now, right?"
"Not quite." Vera pulled over a chair for Isla. After Isla sat down, Vera poured her a glass of juice and handed it to her. "I’ve been nominated," she explained, "but I’m not one yet."
"PFFT!" Isla chuckled. "Is this the Oscars or the Golden Rooster Awards? You got a nomination?"
"Fair competition!" Vera sat down and printed the organized papers. "How about you, how’s work going?"
Isla raised her chin, spinning in the chair.
"I’m good friends with the President’s wife now, who would dare to offend me?" Stopping the chair, she leaned closer to Vera, tugging at her left hand. "Goodness, it’s a real pink diamond! My heavens, I thought those were just legends! I can’t believe they actually exist! This ring must be incredibly valuable. Is it worth seven figures?"
"I don’t know!" Vera got up, took the printed documents, and bound them. Glancing at her watch, she said, "It’s getting late. Let’s go out for dinner. We just landed a new project today, so everyone is working overtime. I’ll bring my team. You don’t mind, do you?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"You’re the President’s wife; how could I possibly mind?" Isla picked up her bag and winked at Vera. "Any chance you could introduce me to a tall, rich, and handsome guy too?"
"I don’t have a tall, rich, and handsome man, but there are a few young and fresh ones."
"Then never mind, I’m not interested."
The two shared a laugh as they left the office. Vera clapped her hands. "Let’s call it a day, everyone. Take a break; we’ll continue tomorrow. How about we go for Hot Pot tonight?"
"Better to come at the right time than arrive early." Accompanied by a pleasant male voice, a tall figure entered from the doorway. "Well then... dinner’s on me!"
