Chapter 56: I can’t let this opportunity slip

Ariel and Raymond arrived at the bidding house which fairly had a few people. They took their seats quietly and let White take care of the procedures.

"Are we just going to sit here and wait?" Ariel asked Raymond in whispers and to which Raymond nodded his head and said,

"Once everyone has turned in their bidding price, the prices will be checked and then the one with the highest amount, as well as the runner up, will be announced."

"Along with the price, right?"

"Yes."

From there, they both went silent and observed the procedure.

White, after submitting the files, returned to sit. He did not sit beside them but rather behind them.

A few minutes later, a mallet being hit on the table resounded in the hall and caught everyone’s attention.

"The prices have been analysed and coming in second place is..." The host looked at the paper clearly to make sure he wasn’t seeing anything wrong and then he looked up, a droplet of sweat rolling down his chin.

He quickly excused himself to the back to inquire if the information on the paper was true.

This action incited a commotion in the few people who were present as they speculated on the reason behind his action.

"What’s wrong? Why doesn’t he announce the results?"

"Do you think they made a mistake?"

"We all know who’s winning the bid but we’re curious to know who the runner-up company is."

The host returned and cleared his throat.

"In second place, we have Raymond Stein with a sum of 3 billion dollars." He announced to everyone’s astonishment. They all turned their gaze to look at Raymond Stein, wondering what sort of expression he would be having at the time but to their surprise, he looked completely unaffected.

Raymond Stein had never joined a game where he wasn’t certain of his own win. So for him to lose like this... The people could only but wonder if one of the five great families secretly joined the auction.

"And in first place, we have the Albert family with a sum of 3.1 billion dollars." The host announced and this shocked everyone even more.

"Albert family? Who’s that?"

"Isn’t the Albert family a small fry compared to Raymond Stein?"

"Maybe there was an insider."

Everyone watched as the secretary from the Albert family walked forward with a proud grin in order to finish the procedures backstage.

"Your father was smart enough not to come in person." Raymond said and Ariel nodded.

The procedures were done and Raymond decided it was time to leave. He went over to where the Albert family secretary was receiving congratulations and said,

"It’s amazing how the Albert family were able to scrape out just the right amount of money in order to get this land." He remarked.

"We just got lucky." The secretary said.

"Hm, lucky by 1 million dollars. That’s an understatement." Raymond said and smiled it off. "I hope your luck never runs dry."

With that, he walked away with Ariel holding on to his arm. She winked at the Albert family secretary, who, for some reason, felt she was awfully familiar. But he did not have time to dwell on her appearance as others came over to talk with him.

"The stage is set, Sir Raymond." Ariel said, smiling knowingly and he nodded.

"Yes. And it’s looking really fabulous."

That night, Clara dressed up really nicely, wearing a newly bought dress and spraying expensive perfume. She made sure her hair was styled in an elegant way so that in comparison to Ariel, she would look like a sensible and refined lady.

"I can’t let this opportunity slip." She said to herself as she smacked her lips which she smeared red lipstick on. She confidently looked at herself in the mirror and smiled. "Raymond Stein will be mine."

Just then, she got a text from Raymond. It was the address of the hotel, and the room number they were to meet in. Filled with excitement, she hurried on her way and arrived at the hotel.

A seven star hotel such as this grade was hard to lodge and only VIP members were allowed in.

Seeing as she was immediately given attention as soon as she mentioned Raymond Stein’s name, she felt like the entire world revolved around her.

’This is life.’ She thought as an employee led her through the fancy and sparkling halls and towards the elevator.

They took the elevator and Clara couldn’t help but breathe in the fresh air of luxurious walls.

’If I can get Raymond Stein wrapped around my fingertips, I’ll surely enjoy more of this. I have to do well.’ she thought to herself.

She used the reflection from the mirror walls of the elevator to make sure her appearance was top notch. Her makeup was not out of place and her hair was still okay. She could impress any man that laid eyes on her.

’I can do this.’

They got to their destination and the elevator doors opened. The employee led her towards the end of the hall where there was a T path. And as soon as they got to that T path, they took the left road.

"Here it is." The employee said, stopping in front of a certain room door. "And here is the key card." She handed her a black key card and bowed her head before leaving.

Clara stared at the door. It all felt so surreal.

’After this, I’m definitely divorcing that idiot Marco.’ She grinned and swiped the key card. The door unlocked and she opened it, revealing a glamorous suite.

She was just about to walk in when she heard a familiar giggle.

"Oh you, you’re so cute."

And a familiar voice too.

"Oh, Marco, I would do anything for you. Your father-in-law looks up to you in high regard now, doesn’t he?"

Clara immediately turned to see Ariel and Marco walking towards the other side of the hall. Marco’s arms were wrapped around Ariel’s waist while Ariel leaned on his body.

"Don’t forget though, you shouldn’t tell your wife about us. She’ll just act stupid and ruin our little affair." Ariel said, smiling broadly and they stopped in front of their door.

"Of course I won’t." Marco said, smiling in satisfaction. "That little wench can’t even compare to your fingernails. I wish I could get a divorce already."

"Really?" Ariel asked, her gaze trailing over to a fuming Clara at the other side of the hall. Her eyes curved in delight as she smiled and said, "Hm, that’s why they say, be careful with what you wish for."
