Chapter 44: Getting laser treatment for the scars

Ariel subconsciously groped Raymond’s chest and once she started, she couldn’t get enough of it.

’This is too much.’ Ariel thought. ’Isn’t it a sin to possess such a body?’ As soon as she thought of this, she remembered when the girls said he had never dated anyone. Was it true?

Okay, maybe he had never dated but he must’ve surely slept with a few girls. There was no way his glorious body had gone untouched for thirty years.

Raymond, who was wondering what was going on in Ariel’s mind, let her be but he soon decided to stop her when her hands trailed from his chest, down to his abs and was still going further.

"What are you doing?" He asked, causing Ariel to flinch and immediately take her hands off.

"Nothing." She lamely denied her acts. She cleared her throat, deciding to change the topic. "Anyway, I was wondering..."

"While touching my body?" He bluntly asked and her cheeks flushed.

"No, not that." She said, "I heard something that was almost unbelievable."

"And that was?" He urged her to continue but she couldn’t find the courage to and just shook her head.

"Nevermind." She got up from him and he also got up to his feet. He watched her as she found her way to the door.

"You’re leaving?" He asked.

"Yes. I don’t think there’s any exercise that’s for me."

"Then, how about walking?" He asked and she turned. Her gaze immediately fell on the treadmill and she gave it some thought. "I don’t see how it’s possible to harm yourself while walking."

Ariel had to admit that he was right so she nodded, thinking he wanted to set a treadmill for her.

But contrary to what she thought, she wasn’t going to walk on the treadmill but rather, they were both going on a walk.

’This escalated quickly.’ She exclaimed in her thoughts.

They were strolling along the maze bushes in the garden. Being surrounded by beautiful flowers and a beautiful view, one must get compelled to relax while walking. She silently stole a glance at Raymond who was now wearing a hoodie over his skin tight T-shirt.

His hands tucked into the pocket of the hoodie while he walked, made him look like an ordinary person but up close, you couldn’t deny that his aura was completely next level. Plus, that unchanging and cold look in his eyes... He was definitely no ordinary person.

Suddenly, Raymond stopped walking and so did she. He stood in silence, gazing at the distance and Ariel couldn’t help but wonder what was occupying his mind.

"Ariel." He called.

"Yes?"

"From this moment, your life might be in danger." He said, shocking her as she couldn’t tell from where he was saying all this. "The Stein’s have noticed you." He added and looked at her. "But I don’t intend to let you stay silent because of this. Rather, I want you to keep making the headlines in the worst possible way."

Ariel was silent.

So when he said her life might be in danger, he meant that the Stein’s would try every possible means to pluck out the rotten fruit that was making the entire tree ooze.

"Ariel?" Raymond called and she looked up, showing no sign of fear whatsoever.

"At this point, do I need to be scared of death?" She asked and with a straight face, she continued. "I’ll do it, Sir Raymond. I’ll make sure to become the menace of the country. I’ll make sure that my name and the Stein’s go through the mud."

Raymond looked into her eyes. She was serious.

"Very well." He looked up ahead. "Before the next act, we’ll need to go to the hospital."

"What for?"

Ariel got laser treatment on her scars. The scars were all in places that couldn’t be seen with clothes on but no one knew when a situation that involved exposing her body would suddenly surface.

She already had great skin so all that was left was to clear out the marks that looked unpleasant.

Two days worth of laser treatment did the trick and Ariel’s body was back to silky smooth... Except for the places she got stabbed. Those scars were just too deep to fade easily. It hadn’t even been a year since she got stabbed so it was understandable.

So they resorted to covering it up with skin instead of forcing it to fade. It was effective and almost perfect but with a close look, you could guess there was something wrong there.

"How are you feeling?" Raymond asked as he watched her put on her clothes.

Ariel was a bit embarrassed. Though she backed him, it didn’t make a difference.

But what was she feeling embarrassed about? He had seen her naked before. And now, watching her, he had no single reaction or remorse. It was as if he didn’t see her as a woman at all.

After all, he did say he wouldn’t touch a girl who was younger than him by ten years. It was displeasing to think about it so she shook it off.

"A bit tingling." She responded, unaware that he had walked up to where she was.

She only realised it when she felt his skin on hers, his fingertips trailing lightly on her back as if trying to find the places that once had ugly scars.

Flustered, she called out, "Sir... Sir Raymond."

"Hm?"

"What are you doing?" She asked and at that moment, he took back his hand, rubbed his fingers together as if analysing the texture of her back and lightly shook his head.

"Nothing." He answered.

Ariel tightly clutched on to her blouse, wondering what Raymond was thinking this time. She didn’t even think to exaggerate his actions because that would only leave her disappointed.

Then, she felt him stop right at the point she got stabbed.

"Does it feel real?" She asked him, referring to the rest of her back that was cleared and he nodded.

"It’s as if there was never a single scar." He answered. "The treatment is good."

They both suddenly fell silent as neither wanted to bring up a topic.

Ariel still clutched on to her blouse, unable to even wear her bra because she was feeling too embarrassed with Raymond standing so close to her and his eyes fixed on her. Why couldn’t he just let her be?

"Ariel," he suddenly called.

"Yes?"

"Seeing how lasting the scars were, I can’t help but wonder. What did he use to hit you?" He asked, suddenly causing her to jolt. Why was he asking her to recall those awful memories?

Her body started trembling and he noticed it. This was not the reaction he was expecting.

"Ariel," once again, he called her name, but this time, more gentle and low. "You shouldn’t be affected by a memory that can no longer hurt you." He said. "During times where an awful memory creeps in, you should laugh at it instead of shaking in fear."

"I...I’m sorry, Sir Raymond." She apologised. "But it hasn’t even been a year since I last got a beating from him, I don’t think I can overcome the memories that easily. I’m sorry."
