Chapter 257: It’s a tracking device

"Mommy, I’m done." Romeo yelled from inside and Paige turned away from Maxwell but he grabbed her hand and went down on his knees, begging.

"Please, I don’t understand any of this. My heart doesn’t say anything differently from what it’s been saying since I met you." He looked confused and anxious. He was equally scared and Jane honestly never thought there would come a day when she would see him so down.

They hadn’t known each other for too long but with the way his character was, there was now at to imagine him falling to such an extent.

"Please, Paige. Please, wifey. I don’t... I don’t know. I did something wrong, right? I definitely did something. Tell me. Did I disobey you? Did I make you mad somehow? Tell me what it is."

Paige looked down at him with pained eyes.

"That’s the point." She said, "But it’s not you who did something wrong. It was me... All along. I did something wrong to you." She spoke so vaguely and flung her hand from his grasp.

Scared that he would hurt her by mistake, he did not hold her a second time and simply stared at the door and slammed on his face with anxiety all over his face.

Then, he gritted his teeth and got up, raising his leg as if planning to kick down the door that was keeping him away from Paige but Jane stepped in and grabbed his leg.

"Hey, don’t do that." She said and Maxwell looked at her.

"Jane?" He looked confused and haggard just a few minutes after not seeing him.

"She’s already pretty annoyed. If you do this, you’ll only make her more upset." Jane said to him and Maxwell looked at the door before tsking.

"What can I do? She doesn’t even want to see me. I feel very terrible and confused and...and..." He grabbed his head whilst shoving his fingers through his hair. "I’m going crazy Jane. If I stay here, I’ll... I’ll definitely upset her so I’ll go." He suddenly started heading in the opposite direction.

"Where are you going?" Jane asked and he answered,

"To clear my head."

"Wait." She wanted to go after her but a female servant approached her and said,

"Miss, the lady in the wheelchair would like to see you." She said and Jane looked at Maxwell’s retreating figure that was slowly disappearing out of sight.

Was it okay to leave him there? He was probably heading for the parking lot, right? But where was he going? Who knew what sort of damage he was going to do?

She looked at the servant and asked,

"Do you have a pen and paper there?"

"No." The servant answered.

"Then tell her I’ll call her later. I need to do something first." She said and started running after Maxwell.

The servant went to do as she was told and Alexa wondered where Jane had run off to.

"Mummy." Rachael called in whispers and Alexa looked down to see her daughter under the table. Startled, she asked,

"Rachael, what are you doing down there?"

Rachael giggled and said,

"I don’t want them to see me so I’m hiding."

"What? It’s not a good image to be seen under the table. Come out." She said and Rachael got out from under the table. "Where’s your father? I thought you were with him." She asked and Rachael pouted her lips.

"Something came up so he had to go upstairs. I don’t know what it is though but since I was left with guards, I decided to come to you."

"Do the guards know where you are? What if they think you’re missing?"

"Don’t worry. They’ll notice soon enough that I’m with you. And other than that, if I do go missing, you won’t have to worry about my whereabouts because I’m wearing Romeo’s gift." She said with her teeth on full display.

"What’s that?" Alexa asked and her daughter showed the wristwatch on her wrist. "Is it a lucky wristwatch?"

"You can say that." Rachael said with a mischievous grin on her lips. "But it has its purpose."

"Stop with the suspense already and tell me what it is." Alexa pressed on.

"It’s a tracking device." She finally said and Alexa blinked, surprised. She didn’t think of that. "If I go missing, there’s a tracker on Romeo’s wrist watch so you guys can follow that to find me."

Wow, kids these days are very productive and resourceful. That was very good and no one would suspect that at all.

"This ain’t going to happen, but what if Romeo gets missing as well? How will we find both of you?"

Rachael looked carefully to make sure no one was listening and whispered in Alexa’s ear.

"Behind the portrait, there’s..."

"Alexa," Raymond interrupted them and asked, "... have you seen...?"

He halted his question as soon as he saw Rachael and gave out a sigh of relief.

"She was here. Thank God." He rubbed his face. "The guards said they couldn’t find you so I got worried and..."

Alexa frowned and turned to Rachael.

"Didn’t I tell you? Rachael..." She pinched her cheeks. "You shouldn’t run around without letting the people who are looking after you know where you’re going."

Since Rachael could not use her words, thanks to Alexa pinching her cheeks, she gave a thumbs up and Alexa let go with a sigh.

"It’s not good to let people worry about you, okay?"

Raymond suddenly took a seat next to them and put Rachael to sit on his legs.

"So, what were you two talking about?"

"I was just telling mummy about my supper gift that Romeo gave me." She said, showing her wrist and Raymond nodded, looking amazed at it.

"Wow, it looks nice." He said but Rachael pouted.

"You don’t even know what it does yet, so you daddy?" She asked but Raymond surprised her by saying,

"It’s a wrist watch so you can check the time with it and," he leaned in to whisper, "It has a tracking chip in it, right?"

Rachael’s eyes widened and she clapped.

"Daddy is so amazing. How did you know?"

"I got Romeo the same one about a year ago because he almost got kidnapped, having connections with me. I figured he wouldn’t give you a simple wristwatch so it has to have a tracking chip in it. Guess I was right." He smiled proudly.

Rachael revered her father’s knowledge and excitedly told him where to find the tracker for the chip in case she went missing. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"It’s behind the portrait." She whispered to him and smiled.

"Well, I hope we never need to use it." Raymond said.

"Except when we’re playing hide and seek. No, wait, that would be cheating."

"And you just gave me a means to cheat." Raymond said and they both laughed.

Then, Raymond looked at Alexa while was silently watching them and asked,

"What’s on your mind?"

"You two." She subconsciously answered.
