I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 222: He was a lunatic
In the inner hall, everything was going smoothly but the silence probed dangerous air.
The air around the two Steins who were sitting next to each other made everyone feel a bit suffocated.
If they hated each other so much then why sit next to each other?
"Thank you all for coming, once more." Moses said and glanced towards Raymond’s direction.
He looked like he was partially paying attention while plotting something in his head. Well, it was time to end this ridiculous speech so he would hand the mic over to Raymond.
"Now, the founder of this great cooperation will come up and say a few words. Give it up for Mister Raymond Stein." Moses announced and everyone applauded but Raymond sat still.
He stayed in his position, hands folded and legs crossed. One would think he wasn’t the one being called but he was so why was he acting that way?
"What’s wrong?"
"Is he mad by chance? I heard he has a heavy temper and gets tucked off easily."
"Is it something the host said?"
Moses gulped. Had he made a mistake? He subtly moved his body, wondering what to do about this? If his Boss didn’t want to come up and say a few words then what was he to do?
’Did I miss the segment? Was I not supposed to invite him?’ Sweat slowly dripped down his chin and then finally, Raymond stood up.
He stood up, adjusted his suit carefully and then made his way to the podium. Each step seemed to put pressure on the crowd that were watching him.
Moses handed him the mic and then he faced the crowd.
"Thank you all for coming." He began. "I don’t have much to say other than this: in the future, my empire will grow far wider than it is now. So continue to support me and do what you’re doing right now. Or maybe it’s the other way around. Whatever works for all of us, I guess." He concluded and handed the mic back to Moses before making his way back to his seat.
It was such a unique speech and like none they were used to but they found themselves clapping. It was quite impressive how he put out his thoughts in such a way.
In another definition, Raymond stated that his empire was already big and would continue to grow so anyone who had any strange idea about overthrowing him could just give up right now and just do best to support him instead.
Raymond sighed. He noticed Serena snickering and this irritated him.
"It’s funny." She said, "No matter how high up you are, you really can’t hide your illegitimate blood. Your way of speaking is as unrefined as your birth."
Raymond looked unaffected by her words. At least, till she added,
"You can take the illegitimate child out of the gutter but you can’t take the gutter out of the illegitimate child. The only way is to refine them and that’s what I’ve been doing so far." She tilted her head. "Did you like the new improved version of your darling Ariel?"
Raymond’s blood gradually started boiling. His hand was clenched into a trembling fist.
"You know, she’s such an obedient girl. I wondered why anyone would bother with you but I guess it was just her nature. Even when I told her all the lies, she didn’t question anything." Serena’s eyes, brimming with contempt and evil, scanned Raymond’s expression and continued. "She’s such a pushover and I guess that’s how you get her to play in your little game. An obedient chess piece, who doesn’t want that?" She chuckled.
Raymond slammed his fist on the chair handle, attracting the attention of all that were close by. He was pissed. Seriously pissed.
"Still a hot head." Serena remarked and laughed out, attracting even more attention.
"What’s going on?" the whispers started.
"Are they fighting? I knew they were not on hold terms."
"Why bother to invite her if she would cause this scene? She’s so shameless."
"Maybe she didn’t get an invite."
People with their different speculations started murmuring and interrupting the host. Moses was also at a loss for words.
With Raymond getting furious as he was now, he didn’t know if he should continue or hurl everyone to safety for their own good.
Paige got up and walked towards them. This image wasn’t quite good for any of them but this was the best she could do if she wanted to stop Raymond from getting angry past his limits.
What was he thinking when he went to sit next to her in the first place? She was such a devil.
"Raymond, come sit with us." She said but Raymond was silent. His fists were trembling so much that it seemed he would punch someone anything soon.
She glanced at Serena with angry eyes while Serena kept a smug on her face. What the hell did she say to Raymond to get him so riled up. It was probably something about Alexa.
Nevermind Raymond, she might end up being the one to punch Serena in the face if she kept that smug up for much longer.
Raymond calmed himself down and stood up. He glared down at Serena and said,
"You can stay smug for now but it won’t last long."
Raymond went to sit in where Paige was sitting. Paige decided she would sit next to Serena and put her in her place but enforce she knew it, Maxwell had already gone to sit.
He was extremely pissed at Serena and wanted to be the one to take care of it.
Well, he had his way when it came to pissing people off with words and not losing his cool when at it so maybe he was the best to deal with Serena at the moment.
"Enjoy." Paige muttered to her with a grin.
Serena frowned and looked at the one sitting next to her. She did her research before coming. Maxwell was an impenetrable wall. If it wasn’t Paige giving the orders then it was no one.
It would be a mistake if she tried to make fun of Paige then she was done for, because this man would not hesitate to strangle her on the spot.
He was a lunatic.
"Ugh." She exclaimed and faced her front.
Moses, with his anxious sweat rolling down, continued his words of affirmation to the audience.
Meanwhile, Jane needed to use the bathroom so badly but she couldn’t take Romeo and Rachael with her so she gave them a plate of strawberry cake each and promised to be back shortly.
She left them in the care of the numerous guards who were on standby and then she dashed to the washroom after getting directions from the waiters.
"So, will you come to my school?" Romeo suddenly asked and Rachael tilted her head.
She was already done with her cake and was watching him, who was only halfway through but was concerning himself with such a topic.
"Your school?" She asked.
"Yes. My mummy told me you’re not going to school for now because your mummy’s sick. When she’s all better, will you come to my school?"
Romeo blinked his eyes in joyful anticipation but Rachael slowly looked away.
School... she didn’t have any favorable memories of school. Though she has always been a good girl and the teachers loved her, her classmates always hated her.
That hate scared her. What if they started bullying her again in this new school?
Though now she had a daddy so no one would bully her or call her names but she was still scared. She would rather stay home and be homeschooled than go to school.
She turned her gaze to Romeo. He was really excited about the idea. How was she going to tell him that she didn’t want to go to school at all? She hated school.
"Or maybe not?" Romeo suddenly came to that conclusion himself and brushed it off with a smile. "Let’s think about it some other time."
It would appear that he interpreted her expression to mean she didn’t want that so instead of forcing a response out of her, it would be better to leave it till later.
Maybe at a time when she was smiling. Then, she would give him a positive answer, right?
"Hm, that aunty has been gone for a while now." Romeo said, checking his little wristwatch and Rachael looked towards that direction.
"Did she get stuck in the toilet?" Rachael muttered. Knowing Jane’s character, it wouldn’t be difficult to archive.
Rachael got down from her chair.
"Where are you going?" Romeo asked.
"I’m going to the restroom." She said and made her way towards the direction she saw Jane go in.
Luckily, the bathroom door’s handle wasn’t far from her reach. It needed a bit of stretching but she was able to pull it off.
"Aunt Jane?" She called as she opened the door but there was no response.
