I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 213: I’ll call Raymond
Steve nodded and checked the meter reading her vitals.
"You seem to be very stable these days. Even after what just happened, you don’t seem to be in pain from talking too much." He observed and she nodded.
"I feel a lot better these days, thank you." Alexa said and looked away.
"Are you worried about something?" He asked her. "Dreams, perhaps?"
"No, none of that." She said but still looked down. "Does Rachael... have to go to the anniversary?" She asked.
Steve was silent and he looked aside for a while.
"If you don’t want her to go, I’m sure Raymond will agree to it." He said but she shook her head.
"It’s not that I don’t want her to go." She said, "I’m just worried. I’m worried something might happen to her while she’s there. It’s not a small party, you know. It’s dangerous."
Steve nodded in understanding.
"I understand where you’re coming from." He said and took out his phone. "Though I can assure you that the entire venue will be under Raymond’s control, I cannot assure you that there will be no single threat. The only person who can assure you is Raymond since he knows what he’s doing. As for Rachael," he looked at his phone. "...I guess we’ll just convince her otherwise."
"No." Alexa suddenly said. "I mean, Rachael is happy. I’m not trying to stop her from doing what she feels happy doing. I just want..." she clenched the sheets. "I just want an assurance that she won’t be in danger. Please." She looked up with pleading eyes. "She’s all I have."
Steve was silent. He looked at his phone and put it back in his pocket.
’You don’t know.’ He thought as he stared at her. ’She’s not all you have. You have all of us to back you up and she has all of us as well. But no matter, the heart of a mother cannot be put at ease unless there is absolute certainty.’
He sighed and nodded his head.
"I’ll call Raymond." He said. "You’ll have to speak to him. I think that’ll be the only way to put your mind at ease."
"Please do."
Alexa and Raymond had not seen face to face since the day he brought Rachael to her. They had never really had a conversation either so she was somewhat eager to talk to him, for some reason.
Steve left the ward and she looked at the bodyguards that were still standing guard. It seemed they were not ordered to leave yet and she felt sleepy.
Well, with them there, she didn’t worry that someone would suddenly creep in while she was sleeping and strangle her.
She had that fear of dying in her sleep but kept it to herself. It was better not to worry people unnecessarily.
Alexa fell asleep and the next moment she woke up, she found someone sitting in front of her. She opened her eyes clearly and discovered it to be Raymond.
He was staring at her so keenly that she wondered if she had drooled while she was asleep. She reached down to adjust the bed rest and he took the lead.
"I’ll do it." He said and his hand grazed hers, giving her a sort of electric shock she didn’t think she’d ever feel.
Her face flushed and she turned her head to the side while he adjusted her bed rest to help her sit up.
"T-thank you." She said and composed herself before looking at him.
He was still staring so intently that she was sure something was on her face so she quickly wiped her mouth and then he laughed.
It shocked her. Why was he laughing? Was there really something on her face? Did she drool?
"You look funny." Raymond said sincerely and she watched his laugh. It was hearty and warm and... why was she feeling warm inside?
"I... I didn’t know something was on my face." She said with a little flush on her face.
Raymond reached out for her face and gently swiped away the strand of hair that was stubbornly stuck to her cheek.
"Oh." She exclaimed as she saw the strand in his hand but was that what he was laughing about?
"You seem to be in good spirits. I’m glad you’re recovering well." Raymond said to her and she smiled.
"It’s all thanks to you." She said and they both fell silent with Raymond staring at her with eyes that said a lot. ’Why is he staring at me like that?’ 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Alexa felt her own cheeks flushing and she felt that if she were to meet eyes with his caring ones, she would lose control and become a blushing mess.
She had never been like that before so it was new to her and she felt flustered.
She did have a bit of interest in him before all this but she told herself she would not use her daughter’s favor from him to act on her feelings and wished the interest would just die but it seemed it was going nowhere.
Rather, it was growing.
’Maybe it’s because of that long dream I had.’ she thought.
The dream that felt like a life story. He was there. The man who was intently staring at her was in her dream. She didn’t know if it was because she held feelings for him but he was there.
He was the one that loved her and said words so sweetly that she could fall asleep to. He was the one who held her tight and not let go.
His love for her was as radiant as the sun and she couldn’t live without it. But in the end, she was the one who had to leave and break the heart of this man who loved her to death.
Not that she left on purpose. She got taken away and could not return, sending him to deep despair.
"Why won’t you look at me?" Raymond asked and Alexa finally turned her head to meet his eyes.
They were no longer screaming care but were neutral.
"Sorry, I might have overreacted for a moment." He said with his clenched hand over his mouth to let out a small cough. "How are you doing?"
Alexa nodded her head and this time, it was her time to smile.
"I’m feeling great."
Raymond looked away, knowing he wouldn’t be immune to her smile and equally smile back in that same manner.
