Chapter 199: I have to make this work

Steve managed to calm Raymond down and Paige approached. She suggested that they keep a close eye on Tracy because, if she was indeed sent by the person who was after Rachael then they had to put up with her and lure them out.

"I can’t do it." Raymond said and cleaned his fists. "I think it’s time to do what I’ve been putting off all this while." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Wait, are you sure?" Paige asked him, knowing what he was referring to.

"At this point, it would have no negative effect on Alexa since she is currently with us." Raymond said. "And I desperately want to know who it is that is after my family."

Hearing Raymond say the word ’family’ triggered a certain fire in Paige and she nodded.

"Alright." She said, "I’ll contact ’him’ right away."

Steve watched as Paige left and then turned to Raymond.

"Still," he began. "...we will have to deceive them that they have us fooled with their plot." He said and shoved his hands in his lab coat. "So, the girl will have to stick around."

"I will not tolerate her acts." Raymond said. "I find her vulgar."

Steve shrugged his shoulders. Raymond never did give a thought about anyone other than Ariel.

"Alright but try to reduce your hostility a bit."

Meanwhile, Tracy was feeling uneasy. She was doing all Thai just because her mother was in the custody of those evil people. It was her excellent acting that got her in this.

How did her acting get her in this?

Well, she always wanted to be an actress so when she heard there was a free auditioning program for just anyone, she thought this would be her chance to finally shine.

She auditioned for her role like everyone else. A demented lady who mistakes a total stranger for her cheating lover. Though she still loves him greatly she would accept him even if he did all that to her.

Her acting was incredible and she thought she was finally going to be an actress. During the interview, she spoke a lot about herself and that was how they were able to get the Intel on her to threaten her.

"You’re going to do this job and you better do it excellently if not, your mother will die." That was the threat and she loved her mother dearly.

The goal was to have Raymond put up with her act no matter what and then make him fall in love with her but she was not very confident.

The notion of making him indebted to her was the best she could think of so she hired a man to stalk her just to make it seem like she really did have a dangerous man after her.

And then she would save the little girl before she gets run over by the men her employer has hired.

Honestly, that was all she knew about this job. This forced job.

She was scared. Everyone knew who Raymond Stein was and for her to mess with him like this, her life would end in a flash once she gets discovered but even with how much she feared she had, she couldn’t run away.

Her mother... her mother’s life was in her hands.

Throwing herself on Raymond Stein and then getting glared at with such intense eyes, she trembled with fear but she couldn’t give up.

Then, there was this man who came to save her. He was such a handsome and kind young man.

He protected and defended her to the point she felt safe but she couldn’t stay relaxed and went back into character. That was all so she could save her mother. Her sweet mother who has suffered to raise her all alone. She wanted to be an actress so bad just so she could elevate her mother from their poor life but this... this was too much.

She cried. What would she do if they ended up killing her mother? She wouldn’t be able to continue living. She... more tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Ngh." Her head hurt. She didn’t plan to be in a serious injury but as it was, the car was moving too fast that she couldn’t delay in the rescue.

She was very fortunate to have made it and she wondered... if she had died while trying to save the little girl, what would become of her mother?

"I have to make this work." She said to herself and wiped her tears with her sleeve.

Though she encouraged herself, she found herself questioning the task. How was she going to make someone who was broken in love fall in love with her? Even if she did make him act like the Ray in her delusions, would he really agree to get married to her?

The door opened and she looked up to see Raymond stepping into her ward and behind him was Steve.

She was confused. What was he doing there?

Her body trembled, feeling his shape gaze pierce into her very soul. She gulped.

"I’m not buying your act." Raymond suddenly said and she pursed her lips. This was no time to be trembling. He was probably just testing her.

She was about to open her mouth and speak when Steve perked up his glasses.

"Evelyn Bright." He called and Tracy flinched. How did he know her real name?

Seeing her reaction, Steve concluded he was on the right track and continued.

"Your given name is Evelyn Bright. Raised in the slumps by your single mother, Susan Bright." He said and looked up to see Tracy slightly trembling. "You’ve worked several hard jobs just to make your daily life with your mother a little easier and aspire to be an actress."

Steve looked up at Tracy. No doubt, she was beyond guilty.

"This information, it took a while to dig them up as it seemed that someone highly skilled buried them away." He said and approached her. "They knew we would try to dig out your information so they hid it tight and replaced it with this," he flipped the page of his file and read out. "Tracy Green, an orphan living with her abusive boyfriend Ray. Has been open to maltreatment all her life and almost got killed by this said ’Ray’." He closed it. "Wow, that very much sounds like the description of someone I know very well."

Raymond glared at her. He looked very displeased that he could kill her that instant.

"For someone to pinpoint these facts very clearly, I’d say the person who sent you is the same as the person we are looking for, so..." he got closer, his eyes flaring in discontent. "...Who sent you?"

Tracy was shaking violently. They know. They know everything. And she thought she could fool them. Who was she kidding? This was Raymond Stein.

"Tracy," Steve called but changed his words, "Or should I say Evelyn. A week ago, you were running around doing all sorts of odd jobs while your mother sold vegetables on the street market so how did you end up here?" He asked but she remained silent. "You don’t want to talk? Do you want me to leave this to Raymond? He will be sure to get all the information from you no matter the means, would you like to try?"

Tracy jolted in fright and raised he read, shaking it violently.

"I... I didn’t want to do this either. I..." she pursed her lips as tears found their way down her cheeks. "I just wanted to be an actress, I didn’t sign up for this."

Steve listened to her and wondered.

"Keep talking." Raymond demanded and she flinched, trembling even more than before.

"Last week, I... I went to an Audition." She sniffed. "Then they asked me for an interview and then... I...I told them everything about me. I didn’t... I didn’t know they were looking for what to use against me and now they... they have my mother. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I just wanted to save my mother."

Tracy cried and Steve put two and two together. The conclusion to it was that she was threatened into doing this but how sure were they that this was not another one of her acts in there to get out of there.

She was quite good at it.

"You’re lying." Raymond suddenly said, and she raised her head. "Speak the truth."

"That’s the truth, I swear." She yelled. "I swear, I only did all this so they wouldn’t kill my mother. They have her with them and said they would kill her if I didn’t do what they asked."

"And what exactly did they ask you to do?" Steve asked and she turned her gaze to him. She was not ready to die here and automatically send her mother to her death.

Maybe, just maybe if she spoke the truth, they would help her get her mother back from those evil people.

"They asked me to make Raymond Stein marry me, no matter what." She said and sniffed.

Raymond’s face contorted in disgust.

"Who are the ’they’?" Steve asked, sensing the looming danger from Raymond.

"I don’t know." Tracy said. "It was a man I didn’t know. He was tall with dirty blonde hair, very close to brown and..." she shook her head and then remembered something. "Oh, I... I think his name was Henry."

Steve was taken aback. Henry? He looked at Raymond who looked grim. Was it the Henry they knew?

Raymond got up and suddenly started leaving. He said,

"Steve, take her to the police station and keep her in jail for the meantime."

Hearing this, Tracy felt her world shake,

"W-what?"
