I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 167: Don’t worry, I won’t leave you
Paige picked up what she left behind in the mansion and went back home. The house where she and her husband, Maxwell lived.
"I’m home." She announced and Maxwell walked out of the kitchen with a bowl of washed strawberries.
"How was your day?" Maxwell asked with a smile and she slumped on the couch.
"It was fine. So many things happened but at the end of it all, I’m glad I have my caring husband to come home to." She said and watched him kiss her hand.
"Of course, I’m always here for you." he smiled.
She and Maxwell had been married for over four years. They held their wedding a year after Ariel’s death.
But before they got married, Maxwell made it clear that he performed a vasectomy operation to cut off the supply of sperm to his semen because he didn’t want to be a father.
"I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before we had this connection but if you agree to marry me whilst knowing you won’t have a child with me then that would really calm my heart." he had said with a calm yet gloomy expression.
He made that decision on his own for the good of them both but he didn’t want to hurt Paige because he truly adored her and so he came clean. He didn’t have high hopes when he came out about it but he truly wished they could have a life together.
Paige was silent. He didn’t want to be a father, he said. Did he not want to have a child? An offspring? Or did it just not cross his mind?
Would he consider it later? She wondered. But how long would she have to wait till he changed his mind? Unlike him, she was looking forward to having a child more than anything and so she responded,
"I want to have a child, Max." She said and brushed her hand along his hair. "And I want to be with you too. What should I do?"
They stayed silent for a while, contemplating on what they would do. They both wanted to be together but had different opinions on childbearing.
"The child just doesn’t have to be yours, right?" Paige asked and he looked her into the eye. She wasn’t thinking what he thought she was, right?
"Do you want to go to some other man to get pregnant?" He asked, a bit worried but she shook her head and kissed his forehead.
"No, dummy." She said, "I was referring to artificial insemination. IUI."
"Oh." Maxwell exclaimed and felt like a fool for thinking wrong.
"Don’t worry, I won’t leave you." She hugged him.
Her big man baby. He was usually very calculative, cunning and also patient but at times, he would act like a naive guy. Like a silly man in love, so adorable. And though he never confessed those words directly, his actions spoke way louder than any word of confession.
Maxwell loved to be in Paige’s embrace and loved to hear her talk. He liked her that much so he could never bear the fact when knowing that Paige would leave him for another man just because he didn’t want to have a child.
His reasons for not having a child with her child was because of the hereditary disease that ran in his blood. Type one diabetes.
If he happened to have a child, they would probably inherit it and die before the age of ten, just like his two older brothers did.
He only managed to survive because he was the third child but he knew that it still ran in his blood. He didn’t want something like that to happen to his child with Paige. He didn’t want to make her go through the tragedy of watching her child suffer, only to lose them in their early years. It was awful.
He could still remember how painful it was to watch his siblings walk around with insulin injected into their arms every now and then. And then remembered how bitterly his mother cried the moment his first brother died. And it only got worse after the second. She was so close to insanity and he was scared.
He still was and so he thought it was best not to have a child and suffer that pain all over. Not by Paige or by him.
"Don’t worry, I can just find a donor." Paige said while patting his back. "But the person I find might want to father the child, is that okay with you?" She asked and Maxwell clutched on to her back.
As long as she wasn’t in the arms of another man, he was okay with it.
"Okay." He said and clutched even tighter.
He never had plans to be a father from the beginning so he didn’t mind if someone else claimed the child. As long as Paige was happy, he was happy.
And so, Paige asked Steve to find her a willing donor but if he could find someone who wouldn’t care about his sperm, it would be better.
"And what if he’s super healthy, has good traits and insists on fathering the child, what would you do? Would you like me to find another donor?" He asked her and she thought about it.
Good traits were good, health stats were also good but it wouldn’t be really easy to find someone like that. Plus, though they might be the donor, she didn’t want a stranger who could be a secret criminal to enter her life so she was contemplating.
A stranger was really too risky. She looked up at Steve. That was the reason she came to Steve, hoping he would find a trustworthy person for her.
"He might be healthy and have good traits but what are the odds that such a person wouldn’t backbite me and threaten me with my child once things go south on their side?" She asked and Steve tilted his head to the side.
She was right there. He looked down at his notepad and scratched a line of his writing. That’s out of the list, he supposed.
"On that note," Paige brought up and drew near to him. "You’re already turning thirty but you’ve never been in a relationship. Don’t you plan to get married?"
Steve adjusted his glasses and said,
"I don’t have my mind on it." He turned away and dropped his notepad. "Getting married now, I would be a less committed husband because I would worry about my work more. But I wouldn’t mind having a kid." He said and smiled.
Paige blinked. That was it.
She suddenly grabbed his hand, a little to enthusiastic and said,
"Let’s have a baby together."
Steve blinked twice, confused and stunned.
"What?"
"Don’t get me wrong. I just want you to be my sperm donor. You can be the father of the child, Maxwell doesn’t mind. But know that I will have more control over this child than you."
Things happened so fast and before Steve knew it, he had become a father.
