I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 147: She will come on the weekend
Steve walked briskly towards Raymond’s office and there, he found him conversing with Paige. The atmosphere seemed to look a bit lively as Paige had a cheerful smile on and he wondered what they were talking about.
"Did I miss something?" He asked and Paige tittered.
"Can you believe it? Raymond here actually let himself be bossed around by a child." She said and finally let herself laugh.
"What?" Steve looked stunned and then turned to Raymond who had his face covered with his palm. "I don’t understand."
"The psychologist he went to meet, Alexa, was it? She has a child and apparently, Raymond instantly liked her and couldn’t say no to her demands."
"What sort of demands? Was her mother okay with it?"
"Don’t overreact." Raymond said and dropped his folded arms. "She only wanted to spend the day with me and we..." he shut his eyes, embarrassed for some reason. "...We went to the aquarium, all three of us."
"Huh?" Steve’s glasses tilted to the side and he quickly adjusted it. "What? You... you did that?" He asked but Raymond refused to say more.
"Don’t stand there and come sit. Anyone who walks in would think Raymond had been taken advantage of with the way you’re reacting." Paige explained and he obediently went to sit down.
"Sorry." He apologized and looked up at Raymond. "You agreed to the little girl’s request, was it because of her mother?" He asked and Paige turned to Raymond as well. She was also curious about that.
Did he accept because of the lady that looked like Ariel?
"It wasn’t." Raymond answered. "Her mother wasn’t in favor of it, either. She thought it would inconvenience me but I was glad I was invited by Rachael. She was such an adorable little girl with a lot of cute demands." He said and subconsciously smiled. "For the first time in a while, I felt fully relaxed and at peace. She gave me peace of mind."
"Please correct me if I’m wrong but the person giving you peace of mind is the little girl and not the mother, right?" Steve asked and he nodded. "In other words,"
"Children are a huge factor in his positive recovery." Paige completed and shrugged her shoulders.
"Did you sleep well last night?" Steve asked and Raymond nodded. "What about the night before?" Once again, Raymond nodded.
"It seems your spirit loves that little girl already." Paige commented. "So what now? Are you planning to have that therapy session more frequently so you can see the little girl more frequently?"
"No." Raymond answered and looked to the side. "I have a lot of work this period so I won’t be traveling out anytime soon." He said, shocking them.
"What do you mean? This method could actually help you?" Paige flared at him.
"Rather," he continued like he didn’t hear her words and turned his gaze to meet them. "...She will come over on the weekends."
"What?" They both exclaimed, a bit lost.
"Miss Alexa and Rachael will come over on the weekends." He rephrased but they both stayed silent.
Was it normal to get attached to someone you meet for the first time in your life? Raymond was one thing. He probably got attached because of the longing he felt in his heart but what was with the little girl?
"What about the little girl’s father?" Steve asked and Paige nodded. Just what she wanted to ask.
"Dead." Raymond said and Steve’s eyes widened.
"Don’t tell me. Did you... ?" A punch landed on his head.
"Don’t be ridiculous." She said and blew her fists. "Raymond definitely didn’t have time to pull off something like that. And even if he did have time, he’d never do such a thing to an innocent person."
"You’re right." he said after reasoning his own words.
"He died before she was born." Raymond said to clear up the air.
His overly calm demeanor made them feel a bit restless. No one knew what he was thinking since he looked so lifeless most of the time.
In a word, he was indifferent.
He refused to let out a single expression to give out what he was thinking. Refused to look even the least bit excited and refused to even express his thoughts in words.
This was way worse than how he was before Ariel entered his life. At least then, he would occasionally smirk, grin and cuss out.
But now... it was a cold expression all through.
This was the only time those lips of his shifted and it was when he talked about the little girl he suddenly grew fond of.
And this made them even more curious as to what that little girl looked like and how she acted in front of him.
"Alright then." Steve said and got up. "Should we start preparing for the weekend?"
"Prepare for what?" Raymond asked, acting clueless.
"There’s a child coming so of course you’ll need to prepare. Or would you give her a bunch of files as a welcome present?" Paige answered him.
Paige left them and Steve turned to Raymond.
"Are you okay?" He asked. It was the question he found himself asking Raymond everyday and to which Raymond responded in the same manner.
"I’m fine." He said and faced the laptop in front of him.
Steve watched as he worked. Fine. The word ’fine’ Raymond always used seemed to be different from the ’fine’ every other person used.
He wasn’t fine. He was suffering.
"What time are they coming over?" He asked, in an attempt to bring up a conversation and Raymond paused.
"I... haven’t asked yet." He said and looked aside. "She’s coming over this Friday but I didn’t ask what time."
"How did that manage to skip your mind?" Steve asked, his eyes twitching at the level of negligence he put up.
"I was more concerned about if she would come." Raymond calmly said
"Well, call her already."
Raymond called his assistant over and he came forward with Alexa’s phone number.
Once he was gone, Raymond looked at the phone number. He didn’t feel good about calling her with his personal number.
"What are you hesitating for?" Steve asked with his arms folded.
Raymond gave out a sigh and dialed the number. The phone rang the first few times but there was no answer.
He looked up and Steve gave him a look that said, ’What are you doing? Try again.’
Raymond tried again with no much expectation and surprisingly, she picked.
He put the phone over his ear and was about to speak when he heard a little girl’s voice.
"Hello." The little girl, seemingly Rachael, said. "My mummy’s a bit busy right now so can you call back later?"
"Rachael?" Raymond called and Rachael’s eyes widened.
"Handsome mister?"
