I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 124: Raymond Stein. Nice to meet you
Raymond, who always had a hard time falling asleep, prepared early to leave for his appointment.
Honestly, he was getting prepared to be disappointed and then leave right away. There were other important things to keep his mind distracted back at his company.
He got to the hospital and walked in alone. Even in Jean pants, a T-shirt and a leather jacket, the air around him was extremely intimidating. With just one look at his face and his stance, you’d know he wasn’t someone to mess with.
Also... he was freaking handsome with his indifferent expression and cold tongue.
"Here it is, sir." A nurse pointed at Alexa’s door and smiled to herself. She found him extremely attractive as well but she couldn’t bring herself to say anything to him.
"It’s locked." Raymond said and the nurse snapped out of her smitten state. She looked at the door in shock.
"What? That’s never happened. She’s never late to an appointment." She said in disbelief.
’So it’s a she this time.’ Raymond thought and shut his eyes for a second before opening them. "Just get the keys. I’ll wait for her inside."
The nurse got the keys and opened the door whilst apologizing for any form of inconvenience.
Raymond made himself comfortable and sat on the couch facing another couch. There was a desk and chair up front and with the many sessions he had attended, he knew exactly where this psychologist was going to sit to be able to speak to him.
He shut his eyes for a moment and whispered the name, "Ariel."
Honestly, the only way he was going to be able to get past this was if he forgot about her but there was no way he could forget about her. He saw her everywhere. In his dreams, his nightmares, even right this moment, sitting in front of him was an Ariel his mind could not let go of.
Her smiling face filled with so much warmth and affection. He couldn’t let her go. If he did, he might just end up dying alongside her.
Maybe that was better. Maybe if he died, he would be able to escape the torment. But then he remembered the angered Ariel in his nightmares, telling him to keep living and suffer the punishment for not being able to save her and their child.
"I have to get it together." He told himself and just then, the doors opened and his eyes widened as he saw a lady whose face was very identical to that of Ariel walk in. And not only did she have a face identical to Ariel’s, even her voice.
The brief moment she glanced at him made his heart skip a beat. Was this another hallucination?
He got up and while the lady babbled about how apologetic she was for being late, he approached her and stood behind her. Not knowing what came over him, he dropped his hands on her shoulders, causing her to flinch.
"Is this real?" He asked. "It doesn’t feel like a hallucination?"
"Would you mind going back to your seat?" She asked, standing still in place.
Her voice... How was it so similar to Ariel’s? But there was a difference in the tone. She sounded so much more bold, confident... like she knew exactly what she was doing.
"You feel like her, sound like her. You even look like her but..."
They had so many similarities yet, there were more differences. The scent coming from her was definitely not Ariel’s.
"...you don’t smell like her." He said and she turned around, only to pause and stare into his eyes for a moment. "You are not my Ariel."
"You... "
Raymond took off his hands from her shoulders and threw his face aside. He made a stupid mistake. How did he conclude that this stranger was Ariel at a glance?
Ariel was dead. He needed to accept that fact.
"That was rude of me." He said. "And I don’t think this session can be held today. Let’s reschedule." He attempted to leave but she suddenly grabbed his hand.
"Wait a minute." She said and he looked back, to see a little disheveled look in her eyes. Even that, he likened to Ariel.
Mad at his own idiocy, he unintentionally flung his arm out of her grasp and the back of her palm hit the pointed edge of her table.
"Ouch." She groaned in pain and he immediately realized what he had done. Taking his frustration out on someone who was trying to help him, he was foolish.
"I apologize. That was never my intention." He said and looked at her hand. It was red.
"It’s okay." She said, "Would you like to take a seat now?"
Raymond was silent for a while and then he nodded and went to sit on the couch.
Alexa took her time applying ointment on the red spot behind her palm and then wrapped it neatly before picking up her notepad and pen and went to sit across from him.
"Once again, I apologize. It was really not my intention."
"I know so don’t worry about it." She said with a smile and wrote a few things down. "First off, let me introduce myself. I am Alexandra Smith and you are?"
He refused to answer so she looked down at the short information provided about him.
"Raymond Stein. Nice to meet you. You’ll be in my care going forward." She smiled and wrote down her little observation of the patient. ’Not much of a talker.’ 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
She glanced at him. His gaze was fixed on her as if searching for something and when he noticed she was also looking back, he looked away.
’Is he also shy?’ She wondered and looked at his information again. ’35 years old.’
Her mind went back to the way he spoke. There could only be one explanation to that?
"You are someone who has visited over seventeen different psychologists and though I don’t know why that is the case, I have observed you. And according to my observation, you are someone who is suffering from a long time separation from your lover, am I correct?" She asked and he gave a slight nod. "Are they dead or did you two just break up?"
Reluctant to answer, Raymond felt uneasy with the way Alexa pressurized him with her eyes.
"Dead." He answered and she wrote this down.
"And how long has it been?" Raymond shut his eyes for a minute before answering.
"Five years."
Alexa almost flinched at the mention of that. Five years. He’s been suffering from her death for over five years? How deep did he love this woman for him to go five years in such deep despair?
For some reason, her heart felt a thud. Was it sympathy? Why was she feeling his pains so clearly in her heart? It must be those deep black eyes filled with nothingness.
She felt disoriented. She wasn’t herself.
She shut her eyes for a second and opened them.
"I have one more question." She said, "When I walked in, the reason you walked up to me... was it because... by any chance... Do I look like the girl you lost?" She asked and Raymond’s eyes widened.
He bowed his head, interlocked his fingers and slowly nodded as if ashamed of himself.
"Yes. Yes, you do. You look so much like my wife."
