How I Tamed My Wolfish Husband Back in 80s-Chapter 149 - 151: Intentional_1
Chapter 149: Chapter 151: Intentional_1
Qin Jin followed behind and shut the front door with force, cursing under his breath, "Shameless to the death!"
Li Qiao seemed to ponder.
In his first week at the forensic department, he had seen his fair share of cases, both big and small.
Before each incident occurred, people’s behaviors always turned abnormal.
Compared to before, Yan Xiaoyu’s behavior today was just too peculiar.
Although not to the extent of murder, brewing up some nasty scheme to harm others was always possible, especially since Qin Jin had previously embarrassed her, giving her a reason to harbor resentment and seek retaliation when the opportunity arose.
Thinking of the dog from earlier, she had an epiphany.
A country dog had previously entered her room, leaving fleas behind that bit her and caused large welts all over her body.
Similarly, wasn’t that Yan Xiaoyu’s idea too?
She went inside to find incense for fumigating insects, lighted it, and squatted down to smoke the floor inch by inch.
Qin Jin: "What are you doing?"
Li Qiao: "Yan Xiaoyu’s dog was in the room earlier, I’m worried fleas might have jumped off."
Qin Jin took the incense from her hand: "Rest, I’ll do it."
Li Qiao was more than happy to comply, sitting in a chair and flipping through a book. Her eyes swept across the room and noticed the lace tablecloth on the high side table where the phone was placed; the folds were uneven. Compelled by her OCD, she moved forward to straighten it out and caught sight of a dark red plastic hairclip.
Was it a gift from Qin Jin to her?
She reached out to take a closer look, noticing that the metal beneath the plastic was somewhat worn, not new at all. "Jin, where did this hairclip come from?"
Qin Jin glanced up, his wife didn’t use hairclips, and Grandma wouldn’t wear this color either. "Could it be that woman who dropped it earlier?"
Li Qiao uttered an "oh."
She understood.
Yan Xiaoyu deliberately left the hairclip to stir up trouble between her and Qin Jin.
She gripped the hairclip, intending to throw it back into Yan Xiaoyu’s yard, but her arm retracted mid-swing.
Going through the trouble of using the dog to divert their attention and sneakily leaving a hairclip probably wasn’t so simple; she decided to keep it for now.
"There are also two plums rolled on the floor here," Qin Jin said, kicking one away.
Li Qiao’s gaze shifted subtly, and she rushed forward to pick them up.
Qin Jin: "If you want to eat, I’ll buy you some tomorrow."
Li Qiao: "It’s not for eating." She put the plums in the kitchen, waiting to see what game Yan Xiaoyu would play.
....
There were electric lights in the city, and after nightfall, Li Qiao turned on the lights and, after bathing, prepared to get intimate with Qin Jin, when a series of urgent knocks and muffled cries came from outside.
Qin Jin stepped forward to open the door, only to be met with a sudden punch flying towards him. Agile in his response, he dodged swiftly and grabbed the aggressor’s collar, striking back with a punch of his own.
It was Yan Xiaoyu’s husband, Zhu Changsheng, who, after taking a hit from Qin Jin, fell and sat down on the ground.
Qin Jin cursed, "Are you fucking sick?"
"You bastard! Messing with my woman, I’m going all out with you today!" Zhu Changsheng’s face turned red as he shouted through clenched teeth.
The nearby neighbors, roused by the commotion, came to watch.
Qin Jin’s eyebrows became frosty, his deep pupils reflecting the angry face of the man before him, and suddenly he sneered, "With your wife’s ugly mug, I wouldn’t even take her if she were given to me for free!"
"You! You didn’t say that yesterday!" Yan Xiaoyu accused, grinding her back teeth.
Qin Jin realized they were deliberately trying to tarnish his reputation, "Shameless woman! Stop spouting bullshit! I haven’t even been here yesterday!"
"Who can vouch for you?" Yan Xiaoyu asked confidently.
Almost all the neighbors in the area had formal jobs.
During the day, only a few elderly stayed home, many of whom were old ladies with bound feet, almost never venturing beyond their own doors.
Since Li Qiao was at work, it was her word against whether Qin Jin had visited or not.
Li Qiao, waiting in the room for Qin Jin, heard the noise outside, sensed something was wrong, and quickly got herself together to go out. "Jin, who is it so late at night?"
As she spoke, her gaze swept over to see Yan Xiaoyu, her husband Zhu Changsheng, and a crowd of neighbors being blocked by Qin Jin outside the door.
Zhu Changsheng: "You came at the right time, your husband is fooling around with my wife."
Li Qiao, as if he’d heard a hilarious joke, responded calmly, "Where’s the evidence?"
"The evidence is at your place. I left a maroon hair clip in your living room yesterday," Yan Xiaoyu said, well-prepared.
Qin Jin: "...." Damn!
Luckily, his wife had keen eyes and had found the hair clip in advance. Otherwise, they’d surely be playing into Yan Xiaoyu’s hands today.
How could this stupid, venomous woman not just accuse him directly, but also fabricate evidence to set things in stone?
Li Qiao racked his brain but never expected that Yan Xiaoyu left the hair clip for this reason. "If you stand straight, do not fear a crooked shadow. Please, come in, brothers and sisters, and be witnesses."
"Agreed."
...
Qin Jin opened the door to let everyone in.
Yan Xiaoyu went straight to where the hair clip was hidden.
It was completely empty.
Where was the hair clip?
She was sure she had placed it here, right?
Li Qiao, looking completely at ease, asked, "Have you found it?"
"I, you... I remember putting it here."
Li Qiao raised an eyebrow: "Put it? You just said you ’left’ it."
Everyone also felt that Yan Xiaoyu’s statements were contradictory.
"Anyway, he harassed me! Tomorrow, I’ll go to the police station and report him."
Li Qiao: "Report? With no proof, where’s your evidence? I do have something to say, though. On Monday, I was taking a nap inside, and I heard you talking to my partner at the door, asking him to get a paper to wipe bird droppings off your shoulder. My partner told you to go home and get your own partner to wipe it. Is that him coming onto you? It seems more like you are the one coming onto my partner. And today, you brought a half-basket of plums to our house, insisting on giving them to us. What’s your intention?"
Qin Jin: "..." He hadn’t expected that she was awake at that time.
She sure knew how to pretend!
Luckily, he was faithful.
"Didn’t you say the plums were for Grandma Hu?" Zhu Changsheng, feeling uneasy, asked accusingly.
Yan Xiaoyu had made sure no one was around before she entered the Qin family’s yard, and now denied everything: "I’ve never been here."
Li Qiao went to the kitchen, retrieved two plums, and presented them to Zhu Changsheng: "Are these your family’s plums?"
"Plums all look the same. You could have bought them too," Yan Xiaoyu quickly retorted.
Li Qiao: "Are you trying to argue your way out of this? You keep accusing my partner of indecency. Why didn’t you scream when he was supposedly harassing you? Catching him red-handed would’ve been great, right? I think you’re just upset you can’t have him and are deliberately smearing his name. Shameless!"
Li Qiao’s words were logical, flowing without any pause.
On the other hand, Yan Xiaoyu, with nothing but her words, could not present any solid evidence.
She failed to convince the crowd.
And the new neighbor’s wife looked young, energetic, and beautiful.
Compared to Yan Xiaoyu, she looked old and haggard.
The couple appeared to be only eighteen or nineteen, probably newlyweds in the throes of passion; they wouldn’t be interested in someone like Yan Xiaoyu, right?
It probably was just as the young wife had said: Yan Xiaoyu was trying to hook up with a handsome young man.
But he didn’t take the bait, and out of embarrassed fury, she attempted to frame him.
The way everyone looked at Yan Xiaoyu began to change, whispering about her amongst themselves.
Yan Xiaoyu, losing the people’s support, started to cry.
Li Qiao coldly said, "Crying doesn’t necessarily mean you’re in the right. This is not over yet. My partner should not be unjustly accused. Tomorrow, I’ll write a complaint to the district court for slander against you. Once professionals get involved in the investigation, you’ll be under at least a three-month detention. I just had someone locked up recently, and they’re still not out."
Zhu Changsheng began to get scared.
He’d heard that the young wife was a college graduate and probably knew many tricks of the trade.
It would be bad if this affected his job. "This must be a misunderstanding."
With that one sentence, Zhu Changsheng was essentially admitting that Yan Xiaoyu had tried to set up a false charge.
Yan Xiaoyu, unable to save face, screamed hysterically: "How could this be a misunderstanding?"
