Chapter 696: Do not do messy things.

Daisy Ginger silently watched him.

These past few days, she had been so bewildered by his unpredictable antics that she almost forgot the real reason she came to Chicago.

Daisy didn’t speak, just withdrew her gaze and got into Edward Stephens’ clattering secondhand car.

Driving the rickety car with great ease, the man turned on the stereo and listened to music as he drove.

Daisy sat in the passenger seat, glancing at him through the rearview mirror, cracked like a spider web.

After a while, she slowly withdrew her gaze.

After nearly four and a half hours of driving, they finally stopped at the entrance of the airport.

At the bustling airport entrance, Daisy got out of the car with her suitcase.

She looked at Edward and said, "I’m leaving."

The man called after her, "Daisy."

Daisy halted, turned her head to look at him.

The world is vast, yet if people want to meet, they still can.

From Banyan City to Chicago, it’s just an eight-hour flight.

But if you want not to meet, even in the same city, you might never bump into each other in a lifetime.

Will she and Edward see each other again?

She exhaled slightly and softly said, "What is it?"

"There’s still some time left, stay with me a little longer."

With the shackles of the Stephens family seemingly removed, he spoke such coquettish words with ease, as if on command.

Daisy nodded and said to him, "Let’s go there."

A café was not far away.

Daisy ordered two cups of black coffee, glanced at the time, and said to the man opposite her, "Half an hour."

Edward took a sip of lemon water and let out a light sigh.

"I thought you were going to stay a few more days."

"I can’t get used to it," Daisy said flatly, "I don’t have that kind of survival skill you do."

The man seemed to chuckle, murmuring, "Spoiled."

Daisy didn’t deny it. When the coffee was served, she took a sip and looked up, studying the handsome contours of the man’s face in front of her.

"You really don’t plan to leave?" Daisy asked, "The money you transferred into my account, take it back. I don’t need your things."

Edward shook his head.

"I’ve given it to you, so just keep it."

Daisy stared at him, "Why give it to me?"

"Why do you think?" he replied with a smile.

"..." Daisy said nothing.

Why?

In her heart, she actually had a vague answer, but she didn’t want to admit that Edward could go to such lengths for her.

Does he love her that much?

To the point where he would entrust his life and wealth to her hands.

"...I’ve said, everything I’ve done over the years has been so that I can be with you."

"Whether or not you agree with my methods, my actions have never changed from the start."

"I’m sorry I deceived you, but that’s the only thing I could do for you."

...

...

...

Daisy asked, "What if you fail?"

"If I fail," the man laughed, "then you find someone ten years younger than me to marry. Anyway, he’ll cherish you."

"..." Daisy wanted to splash the coffee in her hand onto his face.

She pursed her lips, feeling a bit angry, but with people coming and going in the café, it was not the right moment to lose her temper.

"How can there be such a bastard like you in this world?" She lowered her voice, gritting her teeth, grinding them furiously.

He took it all upon himself without telling her; these past years, she didn’t know what kind of intense four years he had endured.

What did he and Ryan Smith do?

What would happen to Robert Stephens in the future?

Would he really not inherit the Stephens family?

So many questions remained unresolved; it wasn’t time for complete relief, yet she was overwhelmed with an urge to cry.

The more she learned about his sacrifices, the less she could handle this profound affection.

She even felt that compared to her, Edward valued this relationship even more.

She didn’t know why.

Daisy slowly lowered her head, burying her face between her arms, not letting the man see her expression at that moment.

Though still filled with resentment, anger, and disappointment, when he sat there, clean and serene, she felt a growing sense of heartache.

Would he really be willing to abandon all the glory and splendor for her, to be with her?

Is it worth it?

If she were Edward, would she be willing to go to such lengths for a man?

After a long while, Daisy took out her passport.

"Time’s almost up, go get my boarding pass."

The man glanced at her passport, raised his eyebrows, and took it over, "As you wish."

"..." Daisy turned her head, too lazy to look at him.

Waited for four or five minutes.

Daisy didn’t know if he would understand, nor could she articulate whether she hoped Edward would realize, until the man returned to the café, holding two boarding passes.

The man stood innocently in front of her, casually scratching his nose with his finger, "I tried using my passport. Didn’t know who bought it for me."

Daisy took a sip of coffee, "It was probably Ryan."

The man stepped forward, looking at her with a light smile, murmured, "It must be him."

Daisy looked up, meeting his smiling eyes, turned her face aside and stood up, "I’m going through security."

The man trailed leisurely behind her, his face wearing a smile.

*

Half an hour later, Daisy and Edward boarded the plane together.

Daisy propped her face, staring out the window, pondering how to explain to Erin Ginger why she brought Edward back with her.

The man next to her had his eyes closed, resting.

Daisy glanced at him, looking at his lean profile, and requested a blanket from the flight attendant, gently covering him with it.

Never mind.

Daisy also closed her eyes.

Anyway, she didn’t need to explain to Erin; Erin was probably glad that Edward came over.

No need to think of a reason.

*

The flight lasted over eight hours.

Having company, it was not boring at all.

Eating, drinking, and after a nap, they arrived quickly.

When they arrived in Banyan City, it was still night; fearing the danger of driving on the highway late at night, Daisy didn’t call Zoe Hilker to pick her up, but instead booked a room at a five-star hotel near the airport.

Daisy booked the room herself. Noticing she only requested a room with a single large bed, the man standing behind her sneaked a smile.

Daisy didn’t sense anything strange, just found Edward’s sneaky smile a bit baffling.

Still, she warned him, "Don’t try any funny business."

"What do you mean by funny business?"

He feigned innocence.

Handing him the second room card, Daisy glared at him, "Anything I say ’no’ to."

"No?" He didn’t know what he was thinking of, lowered his eyes and chuckled softly, "But you clearly like saying no when you mean yes."

"When did I ever?"

Daisy frowned.

The man looked at her meaningfully, "Every time you say no, I take it as a yes."

"..." Daisy glared at him fiercely, "That’s exactly the kind of funny business I mean!"
