Hitman In The Apocalypse: I Evolve Infinitely!-Chapter 39- Nemesis (Part 2)
Chapter 39- Nemesis (Part 2)
Rein watched their movements carefully, making sure to create a map in his mind of where each person was. Then, he started imagining how he could deal with them swiftly in the quickest way possible. That was naturally not easy, as there were several Agents in a rather narrow hall with a small distance between each one.
However, the man didn’t feel like it was impossible. He could see the way. Rein’s eyes flared with a strong light as he clenched his sword. ’I need the perfect moment to strike. Exhaling, he calmed his breathing and made his presence as unnoticeable as possible.
He then waited for several seconds as they roamed the place, keeping that particular room as secure as possible. It was annoying that no one wanted to check downstairs, even though he was certain they knew he was still alive, and he could be anywhere. It seemed they knew that it would be way easier for him to pick them one by one if they did that.
’You would be naive if you think this would stop me.’ His eyes flashed with a sharp glint as he suddenly dashed out of his spot, using the darkness to his advantage to cut the distance down instantly.
"He’s here!" The moment the closest agent saw him, he yelled as he suddenly summoned a sword and slashed down.
’An awakened.’ Rein thought to himself as he dodged the blade swiftly and then stabbed with his sword. The swift attack was lethal as it sliced the man’s throat.
"Shoot!"
*BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG*
The others rained bullets down on the dark silhouette they saw. It was instant, barely leaving a second for Rein to react or even do anything... Or so they thought.
As the smoke settled, their eyes widened as they witnessed something completely ridiculous.
Rein stood behind the dead corpse of the man who was riddled with countless bullets.
’H-He used him as a human shield!!’ They thought as they quickly tried to aim their guns again. However, Rein didn’t let that moment of shock go to waste as he suddenly lifted the man and threw him with all his power.
The heavy corpse flew through the air as it slammed into the four agents.
"Shit!!"
Before they could do anything, Rein pulled the gun out.
*BANG* *BANG* *BANG*
Three bullets, all hitting their targets with insane precision, killing them on the spot. However, the last one was able to quickly recover as he ducked around a corner and started shooting his gun at Rein.
’Tsk.’ Rein clenched his teeth as he quickly ran to the side as the bullets chased his silhouette. Hiding around the wall, he peeked slightly.
’So annoying. I’m quite rusty with pistols.’ He thought to himself as he checked his magazine, he only had three other bullets left.
The bullets kept hitting the corner as debris flew next to his face. He could tell the agent was panicking, and that was good for him.
’I can probably catch him slipping.’ He thought to himself as he was about to change his position. He then leaped out of his spot. The man instantly tried to shoot him; however, Rein was way faster as he immediately shot the gun.
*BANG*
The bullet hit the man in the leg, making him fall to the ground.
’Tsk. I missed.’ Rein thought to himself as he pushed himself off the ground and dashed toward the man, as he summoned his sword and tackled him down, aiming his sword at his neck. Then, when he was about to finish him off... He suddenly heard a voice.
"I think that’s enough, Rein. It’s time to spare these poor guys."
The voice was that of a man, yet it was soft and playful. However, that playfulness only made Rein frown deeply as he instantly recognized who it was. Looking up slowly, he saw a familiar silhouette and a face he hadn’t seen in a long while. A face he could never forget, as it was one of the very few people in the world who actually caused him quite a lot of trouble.
A man he considered a threat, and all those years back, tried to kill. In fact, he was so dangerous that the agency put a 10 million bounty on his head.
His playful smile, his cold, almost dead eyes. The man looked like he was a friendly neighbor you would come across on a casual day. However, that smile was one of the most terrifying things anyone could come across.
"R-Rein..."
Then, Rein’s eyes shifted to the person standing in front of the man. It was Violet, terrified and pale, with a gun pointed at her head.
"..." Rein’s eyes turned extremely cold, almost deadly cold. However, didn’t move as he stood there. "Been a while... Virgo."
"Hahaha, dear Rein. Come on, why the cold greeting? We are old buddies, aren’t we? You should greet your friend warmly."
"..."
"Buut, you can’t really do that when you’re trying to slaughter one of my men, right? You should stand up." He said in a joking tone. However, anyone could tell that he wasn’t joking... He was telling Rein to stand up.
"R-Rein... Please... Don’t... think about me..." Violet said with a wavering voice. He could see in her eyes how terrified she was.
Rein pursed his lips as he looked at Virgo and Violet for a second before he sighed and stood up slowly. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Good~ Oh damn, you really grew taller. Have you had a second growth spurt ever since our last meeting?"
"Let her go, Virgo," Rein said. "You came here for me, didn’t you? She has nothing to do with this."
"Ehhhh, that’s one thing about you, Rein. You always underestimate me." Virgo said as he put his hand around Violet’s shoulder and looked over her shoulder. "You always think I’m a simple-minded fool. Someone who can’t think beyond emotions. Come on... This sweet woman over here is one of the most brilliant minds in the world. Her intelligence is something I really need in this world filled with brainless monsters."
"..."
"Eh, ok, ok, I also came here for you. I missed my old friend. I wanted to catch up with you."
"How did you know I was here?" Rein asked coldly.
"Hahaha, let’s say I had a birdie tell me. But, that’s not important now, is it?" Virgo said as he looked at the injured agent with a smile on his face. "Pick your gun up."
The man, still in immense pain, nodded and quickly grabbed his gun with shaky hands as he aimed it at Rein.
"You will pay for what you did to me, you bastard!!"
"Hey, hey, calm down now. You don’t need to be so angry and hateful. Had I not stopped that man, your head would’ve been neatly placed next to your body as we’re speaking." Virgo said. "I want Rein alive."
Rein could see in the man’s eyes that he was planning something. Meanwhile, he looked at Violet as he signaled with his eyes secretly, trying to convey something to her. At first, Violet didn’t understand what he meant. But, a second later, a hint of realization flashed in her eyes before she faintly nodded.
"I thought our last meeting ended all feuds, Virgo. Why are you coming back to me at such a rough time for all of us? When everyone is worried about surviving, you’re here worried about me? Sounds a bit too obsessive, don’t you think?"
