His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 99: Holding a Belated Wedding Ceremony
Kiana Sutton never expected that one day, she’d actually hear the words "legal spouses" from Ethan Sinclair’s mouth.
Good thing he remembers they’re legal spouses.
Glancing up and seeing it was already past nine o’clock, Kiana’s expression changed a little. The old lady kept a strict routine—she slept at ten in the evening and got up at six in the morning.
When there were no kids at home, breakfast at the old house was always at seven.
After Kiana and Quinn moved in, the old lady adjusted breakfast to eight so they could all get a bit more rest.
And now it was already eight-thirty—Kiana didn’t dare lounge in bed anymore and immediately got up.
The moment she rushed into the bathroom, Kiana felt awkward.
All this time, Quinn had been helping her wash up and brush her teeth. Now that Quinn had run off, what was she supposed to do?
She couldn’t just skip brushing her teeth, but...
Kiana looked at her own fingers, gritted her teeth, and picked up the toothbrush.
If she was just careful with it, her hand should be fine.
She’d just reached for the toothpaste when a beautiful, long hand suddenly appeared and snatched the toothbrush from her grip.
Kiana turned her head to see Ethan Sinclair had already squeezed out the toothpaste for her and said, "Open your mouth."
Kiana stared at him in surprise, eyes wide—was he...about to brush her teeth?
Seeing Kiana frozen there, Ethan Sinclair sounded a bit impatient. "Hurry up!"
Ethan had never even served himself before; Kiana didn’t hesitate and obediently opened her mouth wide. Ethan stuffed the electric toothbrush in.
His movements weren’t exactly gentle, but they weren’t rough either. As Kiana gazed quietly at him, she felt a brief moment of daze.
This guy—was he possessed by someone else?
How could he suddenly treat her so nicely?
Or had his conscience finally kicked in?
"If you keep staring at me like that, I’ll pull out your teeth!"
Kiana immediately lowered her gaze and stopped looking at Ethan Sinclair.
Watching her being so obedient, Ethan actually thought of the stubborn, never-yielding version of her in his mind.
This woman—sometimes she’s so sweet and docile, other times she drives people absolutely mad. Which one is the real her!
Once the brushing and rinsing were done, Ethan Sinclair kicked Kiana straight out of the bathroom.
When Kiana came downstairs, everyone hid their smiles behind their hands, all with the same "we know what’s up" look on their faces.
Quinn rushed up to Kiana, teasing, "Hey, sis-in-law, you’re finally up! Had a good sleep last night?"
Kiana couldn’t explain, her cheeks flushing red.
Luckily, the old lady rescued her, "Okay, okay, let your sis-in-law have breakfast first."
After Kiana finished eating, Ethan Sinclair finally came down from the second floor.
"Grandma..."
The old lady answered dryly, clearly still holding a grudge.
It was Wednesday, but Ethan didn’t seem in any hurry to go to work.
Seeing this, the old lady glanced at Quinn, who was playing on her phone, and said calmly, "Quinn, Kiana needs her medicine."
"Oh...Has Dr. Owen not come yet?"
"Dr. Owen is busy today. You do Kiana’s medicine."
"Ah...Can I do it?"
"It’s just putting on medicine, what’s the big deal?"
Quinn was about to protest, but seeing Grandma wink at her, instantly caught on, grabbed the med kit, and dragged Kiana over to the sofa.
"Sis-in-law, it’s my first time doing this, but hey, I’ve at least seen it done if not done it myself. I won’t hurt you, promise!"
Kiana trusted Quinn, really—Quinn might seem reckless, but was pretty reliable with stuff.
Besides, if Quinn hadn’t been looking after her all this time, Kiana had no idea what she’d have done.
Quinn picked up the scissors, and started cutting the bandages on Kiana’s fingers.
Except Quinn had always grown up pampered—when did she ever use scissors?
She tried imitating what she’d seen, but in doing so, accidentally jogged Kiana’s wound.
Kiana winced from the pain, flinching.
"Oh shoot, sis-in-law, sorry! It’s my first time with scissors, not used to it."
Kiana gave her a reassuring smile.
Quinn patted her chest in promise, "Don’t worry, don’t worry, I’ll be extra careful this time."
As she spoke, Quinn snuck a glance at Ethan Sinclair.
Ethan was wearing a white T-shirt, flipping through a magazine.
His eyes seemed fixed on the pages, but his brow was furrowed—who knew where his mind really was.
There was a sly glint in Quinn’s eyes—and she ’accidentally’ grazed Kiana’s wound again.
Kiana: "..."
She took back everything she said about Quinn being reliable.
After a few more fumbles, Ethan shut his magazine with a loud smack, glared at Quinn, and said coldly, "Put the scissors down and go chill somewhere else!"
"No way, I still have to put sis-in-law’s medicine on!"
Ethan strode over with a frosty look, "Give me the scissors!"
Quinn didn’t hesitate for a second, immediately handed the scissors to Ethan Sinclair.
Ethan took the scissors and sat down next to Kiana.
The old lady and Quinn exchanged a look before happily settling in to watch the show.
Kiana hadn’t expected things to go so far as Ethan helping her change the bandages. When his cool hand touched her fingers, she couldn’t help but tremble slightly.
A jolt ran right through her whole body.
Ethan’s face didn’t look too friendly, but his movements were gentle enough.
One by one, he cut away the bandage, and finally saw Kiana’s fingers up close.
Because of the stitches, her once ivory, elegant fingers were now criss-crossed with nasty, centipede-like scars. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Seeing Ethan’s gaze lingering on those ugly scars, Kiana instinctively tried to hide her hand.
No girl wants her beloved man to see her ugly side—even if it’s just her fingers.
Ethan held onto Kiana’s wrist, pulling her hand closer. "Don’t move!"
Every time Quinn saw those scars on Kiana’s fingers, her heart ached. "Oh man, sis-in-law’s hands were so pretty, cannot let those scars stay! Weird though, the other fingers don’t look so bad, why’s the ring finger so much worse?"
Suddenly, an idea struck her—her eyes lit up, "Wait, bro, you guys have been married for years and you never bought her a wedding ring, right? Put a ring on her finger and the scar will be covered up!"
As soon as she said it, the living room fell so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Quinn was still kind of scared of Ethan Sinclair. Just then her phone started ringing, so she piped up, "Bro, I’ll leave Sis-in-law’s medicine to you then! Mia Lynch asked me out, I’m off!"
With that, she dashed out—didn’t give Ethan a chance to go after her.
The old lady threw Ethan a covert glance, her sharp eyes staying on the TV though her words were clearly meant for him. "Speaking of which, you never had a wedding ceremony when you two got married. It’s been three years—maybe it’s time to hold one now."
At that, Kiana was so startled she didn’t dare breathe, fearing Ethan might snap and cut off all her fingers with the scissors.
Ethan Sinclair held his silence until he’d finished applying the medicine and bandaging Kiana’s wound. Then he looked at her, forcing a smile, "Do you think there’s any point to us having a wedding now?"
