Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Get Over Here

Ethan Sinclair was furious to the extreme, but when he saw Kiana Sutton’s stubborn, pale little face, he just couldn’t bring himself to lay a hand on her.

Miles Goodman rushed into the hospital room, only to see Ethan Sinclair about to hit Kiana Sutton.

"Stop!"

He barged in and shielded Kiana in his arms, noticing the bandage wrapped around her fingers, stained bright red with fresh blood.

Then, seeing Kiana’s face as white as a sheet, her brows tightly furrowed, beads of pain-sweat glistening on her smooth forehead, he whipped around and glared angrily at Ethan, his eyes reddening as he started shouting.

"Are you blind? Can’t you see her fingers are bleeding? Or do you have to see her hands destroyed before you’re satisfied!?"

Only now did Ethan notice blood dripping from Kiana’s fingertips. His heart jolted fiercely, his face looking even worse than before.

Wasn’t it supposed to be just a minor injury? How could she be bleeding this much?

Stella saw Miles Goodman shielding Kiana time and again, and in a fit of jealousy blurted out, "Miles, Kiana is Brother Ethan’s wife. Right in front of him, you’re defending her like this—don’t you think you’re totally disrespecting Brother Ethan?"

Stella’s words successfully shifted Ethan Sinclair’s attention to Miles Goodman’s hand clutching Kiana’s arm.

Watching Miles protectively hold Kiana, and Kiana obediently leaning into Miles without any hint of awkwardness, Ethan’s anger flared up even hotter than when he’d seen Kate Lynch injured.

He stared coldly at Kiana, his voice as icy as the arctic, "Come here."

Kiana didn’t move—not because she didn’t want to, but because she physically couldn’t.

After a whole day of injuries, intense emotions, and no lunch, she didn’t have an ounce of strength left.

If she weren’t leaning on Miles, she’d probably have collapsed by now.

But in Ethan’s eyes, all of this just became Kiana purposely defying him.

He even began to think Kiana and Miles were so close because she had already made up her mind to divorce him!

"I’ll give you one more chance. Crawl over to me!"

Kate and Stella felt Ethan’s chilling aura. Stella was so scared she didn’t dare say another word.

Kate’s brows, however, knitted together in worry.

If he didn’t care, how could Ethan possibly be this angry?

Miles glared back at Ethan, tense and on guard. "What are you planning to do?"

The atmosphere in the private room turned instantly explosive—like it could blow apart at any moment.

"Bro, sis!"

Quinn Sinclair’s voice suddenly rang out, "Grandma, take it slow."

No one had expected that the Sinclair Matriarch would come to the hospital.

Miles hadn’t expected it either; all he’d done was call Quinn, but Quinn had actually brought the matriarch along.

As soon as the elderly woman entered the room, she saw Kiana, her face as pale as paper and looking so very frail.

She glanced at Quinn, who instantly understood, rushing over to support Kiana. "Sis, are you okay?"

Kiana shook her head.

"Come on, let’s get out of here."

Quinn quickly shot Miles a look. Miles got the hint, and the two of them helped Kiana out of the room.

As she left, Kiana didn’t spare Ethan a single glance.

Ethan noticed she wouldn’t even look at him, feeling supremely annoyed inside.

With the matriarch present, he spoke up in a detached voice, "Grandma..."

"Smack..."

The matriarch reached out and slapped Ethan hard across the face, staring him down coldly—her authority unmistakable without a word. "You’ve completely let me down."

Stella was so frightened by what she saw, she cowered behind Kate, not daring to make a sound.

The Sinclair Matriarch was the Family Head, and Kate had feared her ever since she was a child. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

She knew that being with Ethan, she would eventually need the old lady’s approval—she’d even planned to visit her after recovering from the hospital.

No one expected the matriarch to suddenly show up in her hospital room.

Kate clenched her fists tightly, trying to suppress her own fear of the elderly woman before speaking up, "Madam, today’s events weren’t Ethan’s fault, it’s—"

Before she could finish, the matriarch curtly interrupted, "Lynch girl, you’ve only just awakened. You should be resting more."

Kate replied respectfully, "Thank you for your concern, madam."

"I know you grew up with Ethan and you share a deep bond, but Ethan is married now. Surely you understand what it means to avoid suspicion?"

Faced with the matriarch’s sharp, intimidating gaze, Kate’s expression grew even more pale and ugly.

She hadn’t expected such a blunt warning from the old woman.

"Grandma..."

Ethan tried to interject, but the matriarch cut him off sharply. "You shut your mouth!"

Just then, Quinn rushed back in, linking the matriarch’s arm. "Grandma, let’s go."

The matriarch nodded, paused at the door, and without turning her head, spoke with unmistakable authority. "Kiana is my granddaughter-in-law. If I find out anyone has bullied her, I will not let it slide."

At the hospital entrance, Miles helped Kiana into the car, about to get in with her when Quinn and the matriarch arrived.

"Miles, thank you for taking care of Kiana. She can’t speak, her hands are injured. So this old lady will thank you on her behalf."

Miles hurriedly waved his hand, flustered, "No need, no need, it’s the least I could do."

The matriarch smiled slightly, "It’s Kiana’s good fortune to have a friend like you. If there’s anything you need help with, just come to me."

Miles’s heart sank sharply; the matriarch’s words were loaded, a subtle warning not to cross any lines?

Quinn had always been street smart, and seeing things weren’t right, quickly nudged Miles Goodman, "Miles, you’ve worked hard today—I’ll treat you to dinner soon, bye!"

Quinn kept signaling Miles to leave immediately.

But though Miles was usually pretty sharp, today it was like he couldn’t read Quinn’s cues at all. With a stern face, he said, "Madam, Kiana is a good girl, and she deserves to be cherished. If President Sinclair doesn’t know how to love her, there’ll be plenty lined up to take his place."

Miles finished, then bowed deeply to the matriarch before turning and leaving.

Quinn was nearly beside herself, especially seeing the matriarch’s eyes trailing after Miles as he walked off. She quickly blurted, "Grandma, sis’s hand looks really serious. We should hurry home."

This hospital was full of bad memories for Kiana, and the matriarch didn’t want her staying, so she took her back directly to The Sinclair Estate.

She even called the Sinclair Family’s doctor in.

Kiana’s finger was infected, and she had a fever. As soon as she got to the Sinclair Estate, she fainted.

While the doctor dressed Kiana’s wound, the matriarch kept sighing in distress.

Quinn, meanwhile, was so heartbroken that she couldn’t stop crying.

Just looking at that mangled, bloody finger was enough to make her ache.

She had been with the matriarch at an art exhibit when Miles called.

Realizing how serious things were, she knew she couldn’t handle it alone, so she dragged Grandma over.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. Quinn took a photo of Kiana’s injured finger and sent it straight to Ethan Sinclair.

"Ethan Sinclair, I just want to know—does your conscience hurt or not!!"
