Chapter 54: Pretty Awesome Sometimes

Lancet’s Heroine Creation screen blinked to life in front of him, displaying the panels he had first been introduced to when he created Astensia.

⸢ Create Heroine ⸥

Before he selected the first option, ⸢ Name ⸥, he investigated the pricing once again, wanting to refresh his memory. As he remembered, if the Narrative Coupon subsidized the cost well enough, he could have enough CP to make a Gold Rank Heroine too.

⸢ Current Balance: 2,500 CP ⸥

⸢ Cost Analysis: ⸥

* ⸢ Silver Rank Heroine: 500 - 800 CP ⸥

* ⸢ Gold Rank Heroine: 1,000 - 1,500 CP ⸥

* ⸢ Platinum Rank Heroine: 2,000+ CP ⸥

Last time, the Coupon had cut down Astensia’s pricing from over 4000 CP to 1900 CP. If Lancet performed to his best in creating Thor’s character, he would certainly have enough to create the Academy senior Heroine he wanted later on.

But for now, all focus was on the Heroine of Thunder.

Lancet slid his hand to pull out the piece of paper where he had jotted everything he’d come up with so far for Thor. He looked left and right, making sure Kasto and Anita weren’t looking.

Thankfully, their attention was fully captured by the ongoing Duel of Summons between two of their classmates.

Lancet freely relaxed and began the character creation process.

⸢ Name: Thor Stormchild ⸥

⸢ Appearance: — ⸥

Last time, he had been worried that he needed to be extra specific about his Heroine’s appearance. Fortunately, the system was not that cruel. It adapted the overall idea of what he wanted and completed the imagery, without straying too far from Lancet’s imagination.

So, with this faith, he started to mentally type what he had designed in his mind.

⸢ Appearance: Height: 181cm. Physique: Powerful, lean and broad-shouldered. Hair: Long, voluminous white hair. Eyes: Piercing silver blue. Armor: Thundersteel Armor Set consisting of layered gold breastplate over a deep blue tunic with a striking magenta sash. Headwear: A heavy, dark metal crown with glowing golden angular accents. Weapon: The Hammer of Force. A giant black and golden warhammer with kinetic powers to control her lightning ability. ⸥

Lancet re-read what he had written. He reimagined her in his mind and inspected his accuracy. Once he was satisfied, he moved on to the next category — one that was very important.

⸢ Personality ⸥

Now, the reason this category was important was because it was moulded by other categories. One’s personality was a result of appearance, background, backstory and even motives.

With this in mind, Lancet knew that his Thor’s personality had to be consistent with every other attribute of her character design. Either he derived her Personality from the motives and backstories he created, or he formulated motives and backstories to match the Personality he wanted.

The point was; doing exactly what he wanted wasn’t easy or even optimal. If he created contradictory attributes—like a stern personality even though a character had a sweet, easy life—he would risk losing the Narrative Coupon and having to pay the full price.

Not just that, he would also risk being a hypocrite.

Creating a Heroine that made no sense, that had personalities and motives that clashed with other aspects of themselves, just so he could get a new Summon to protect him, was exactly what he had criticized the author for.

Lancet could just tell that whoever had sent him here was salivating at the thought of him proving them right and succumbing to the same thing he berated them for.

So, even though Lancet could decide to fuck it all and just make an irrationally submissive Heroine with mighty powers all for his purpose, he kept true to his code.

⸢ Personality: Fiercely proud and unapologetically militant. Thor takes her duties as an Awakener gravely, driven by a relentless hunger to slaughter demons and other forces of Gehenna. She is a soldier who loves to fight for a cause. But more importantly, a worthy master. She despises cowardice and weakness. ⸥

Yes. In Lancet’s head, that sounded like Thor alright. Even in his first draft for her, that was how he had always imagined her.

He’d always planned for she and Astensia to be a duo. One kinder than the other. One fiercer than the other. Both almost equally powerful.

Now, it was time for the ⸢ Backstory ⸥. This involved two sections: Family/Birthplace, and the Event.

Lancet wanted Thor and Astensia to know each other, which meant grounding her firmly in the Era of Ash.

As for her birthplace, he chose Valkyrie Falls. Though, in Thor’s time, it hadn’t earned that name yet.

Back then, it was known as the Crumbling Blue — a vibrant territory situated beneath a piercingly bright sapphire sky, framed by colossal mountains that constantly crumbled down massive stones, yet miraculously kept growing.

Lancet looked away from the floating screen to his note, reading what he had written down concerning Thor’s ⸢ Event ⸥.

⸢ Event ⸥ basically referred to the occasion that the Heroine would be most known for in the lore, or just the most significant moment of their lives.

Lancet had been thinking about this for a long time. He had written and rewritten ideas. He had gone through the Record of Heroes he had with him over and over.

Finally he came to a decision.

In the canon of Awakener Supreme, the Era of Ash was an incredibly important time. It was the first actual regrouping of the world to fully fight back against the Second World, Gehenna, and the Demons it brought.

Because it was such a chaotic, expansive period, a lot of massive historical events were just stated as fact but never fully explored.

One of the most glaring examples was the Valkyries.

They were a vanguard of five female Awakeners led by the most powerful male—and most powerful overall Awakener of that time.

He was called Servont.

The original lore made a massive deal out of Servont, focusing entirely on his power and glory. In fact, Lancet was forced to walk past multiple statues of the man scattered all over the Academy campus.

Yet, the author barely said anything about the Valkyries, only bothering to describe them as "loyal."

That blatant lack of detail gave Lancet the absolute freedom to input his own lore. He made it so that the most powerful of these Valkyries was Thor.

According to the official history books, Servont and his Valkyries had set out to Devilfall—a Demon-claimed city turned into a citadel of Gehenna. Their mission was to cleanse it, though even now, hundreds of years later, Devilfall remained uncleansed.

The original lore only stated that Servont and his Valkyries died there. That was the empty space Lancet was going to exploit.

He lowered the paper, turned to the translucent keyboard, and began to type his own truth into the system.

⸢ Family/Birthplace: Born in the Era of Ash, originating from the Crumbling Blue (known today as Valkyrie Falls) ⸥

⸢ Event: Thor was the strongest of the Five Valkyries, the elite vanguard sworn to Servont, the greatest Awakener of his time. History books say that Servont sacrificed himself to buy his Valkyries the opening to execute the Demon Head. But despite his sacrifice, the threat was insurmountable. Thor watched her sisters fall and although she held on for long against the Demon Head, she was ultimately killed. Thor died with the agonizing guilt of failing her master’s final command. ⸥

Lancet had done it again. With the story never bothering to mention who the Valkyries were and what exactly had happened in Devilfall, he has been granted another opening to exploit.

Lancet wrote Thor not just as one of the Valkyries, but the strongest amongst them all. Servont’s second in command.

The Lore Attunement was perfect. So perfect it felt like he had just slipped Cinderella’s leg into the glass slipper.

’I’m pretty awesome sometimes,’ he praised himself.

On to the next.

⸢ Motive ⸥

With the backstory, Thor’s motive almost seemed obvious. To be consistent, there was only one honest way to go. What would a character with her personality and backstory be motivated by?

⸢ Motive: Thor seeks the absolute and ruthless eradication of all evil, no matter the cost. As an Awakener and the only surviving Valkyrie, purging the forces of Gehenna is her holy mandate. To achieve this, she requires a master who shares her unyielding zeal and fearlessness—a brave leader willing to take any burden to ensure the wicked are permanently destroyed. More personally, driven by the guilt of what happened in Devilfall, Thor wishes to fulfill her former master’s final, uncompleted command. ⸥

Lancet sat back and inspected his work. ’Holy Hell. Why don’t I have a Netflix contract or something?!’

He chuckled at his joke, but was still extremely happy with what he had come up with.

It might have seemed like he was making it a bit too difficult for himself to make Thor a loyal Summon. But what she wanted was a brave, fearless leader... like Servont.

And Lancet knew just how to prove that to her.

But now, let’s give Thor her thunder.
