Chapter 1288: Chapter 1223: Crown of Thorns

Huang Yi activated the Eye of Time, looking into the past of this attic.

The Eye of Time, like Treasure Sniffing, is also a kind of ability. It doesn’t belong to the category of skills and can still be used.

Immediately, the scene before him started rewinding like a video, quickly going backward.

However, after watching for a while, there were no changes in the attic’s scene, so Huang Yi simply adjusted the time reversal speed to the maximum.

Instantly, time began to rewind rapidly, and tens of thousands of years passed in the blink of an eye. The items in the attic decreased one by one, and Huang Yi’s Energy Value also diminished increasingly.

Finally, the 3000 Energy Value was completely exhausted, and the Eye of Time automatically stopped. Energy Value cannot be replenished midway unless there is a Special Energy Stone, which can provide unlimited energy once.

At this time, only twelve items were left in the attic, indicating that these twelve items are the oldest. The era in which they were placed in the attic already exceeded the limit that the Eye of Time could currently see.

Huang Yi stood quietly in the attic, starting to examine those twelve items one by one.

The golden sunset, like flowing years, slanted through the outside window, spilling onto these ancient items. The shadows of each item cast on the mottled walls. There was not a single sound around, and it seemed Huang Yi could stay here for a lifetime without anyone ever disturbing him.

Most of these twelve items were from the Primordial Age, such as clay pots, pottery jars, wooden sticks, bone needles, stone axes, and so on.

Huang Yi checked each one but couldn’t find any clues. These items were too ancient, had no power left, and were just empty frames, making it impossible to perceive their strength or see any item information.

Thinking about it, judging from the grandfather’s tone and the Barbaric Turtle Village’s casual attitude toward these items, they probably didn’t care about them and could be taken at will. So, Huang Yi simply stored all twelve items in the storage ring, planning to let the Heavenly Dao take a look.

...

On the other side, the Central Continent.

Huang Yi’s main body found the Heavenly Dao and told him about being trapped in the Barbaric Turtle Village.

"Barbaric Turtle?" The Heavenly Dao’s eyes lit up, nodding repeatedly: "Right! Right! The Barbarian God·Lietian once subdued a Barbaric Turtle, and I just mentioned yesterday that I wanted its clues. I didn’t expect you’d find it today! Where is that Barbaric Turtle Village? Let me take a look!"

"There is no coordinate for that Barbaric Turtle Village. It moves continuously with the Barbaric Turtle, and the Barbaric Turtle itself is a Demon-Sealing Space, wandering outside of The Second World. It can only be sighted occasionally, and I don’t know when it will appear, or in which corner of The Ocean it will manifest."

The Heavenly Dao sighed, feeling disappointed: "That’s a pity indeed! The Southern Hemisphere’s sea is so vast; no matter the means, it can’t be found!"

"You better not come here. Once here, you can’t get out. My incarnation has already used the resurrection method, but still can’t get out."

"How could that be?" The Heavenly Dao’s eyes turned, retorting: "You can stay in the Heroes’ Prison, and your main body can summon the Heroes’ Prison from the Central Continent. That way, your incarnation could come to the Central Continent, couldn’t it?"

Huang Yi shook his head: "No, it’s not possible! When there are players inside the Heroes’ Prison, it cannot be closed. It can only be closed after the player leaves. So once my incarnation enters the Heroes’ Prison, the main body cannot summon the Heroes’ Prison again."

Saying this, Huang Yi flicked his hand, revealing the twelve items his incarnation had just acquired in the attic, one by one: "These are some items I found there. See if you can find any clues."

The Heavenly Dao reached out, taking those items one by one, examining them left and right, then shook his head and put them down.

At this moment, Huang Yi cautiously took out a new item. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

This was a crown made from thorns, with sharp spikes on top, some of which still had traces of blood. These thorns had long lost their moisture, dried up, and turned a woody yellow, appearing more ancient. However, the spikes on those thorns remained sharp, requiring careful handling to avoid injury.

Upon seeing this item, the Heavenly Dao paused slightly, quickly reaching out to take it over for a closer look.

Gradually, the Heavenly Dao’s expression became increasingly serious, his gaze meticulously scanning every thorn, not missing a single detail.

"What’s wrong?" Huang Yi couldn’t help but ask upon seeing the Heavenly Dao’s demeanor.

"This seems to be... the Crown of Thorns!" Heavenly Dao said hesitantly.

"What Crown of Thorns? Could it be the item of Barbarian God·Lietian?"

Heavenly Dao shook his head, "It’s not the item of Barbarian God·Lietian! It is older than Barbarian God·Lietian, it is the item of the Yellow Emperor."

"Yellow Emperor!" Huang Yi felt a chill in his heart upon hearing those two words.

The Yellow Emperor is one of the most mysterious figures, known as the Eternal Holy King of The Second World.

Legend has it that the Yellow Emperor was not a person of The Second World. When he came to this world, humans were still primitive, living off raw meat and drinking blood. The Yellow Emperor enlightened the beings, invented writing, taught primitive people how to use fire, make tools, and created human civilization, allowing primitive people to grow and develop step by step in the beast-inhabited Eternal Ancient Era, ultimately forming the myriad of varied humanoid races we see today.

Later, the Yellow Emperor left this world. His disciple, and his successor—Barbarian God·Lietian, became the new leader of humanity.

Barbarian God·Lietian was already ancient, and the Yellow Emperor was even more ancient. Aside from legends, almost nothing was left behind, no relics or artifacts or specific tools.

If this truly is a relic of the Yellow Emperor, then this elusive figure suddenly gains a sense of reality due to this tangible item.

"Is there any legend about the Crown of Thorns?" Huang Yi asked.

Heavenly Dao cautiously touched the thorny spikes on the crown and said softly, "Using thorns as a crown is both a pain and an honor. The wearer of the Crown of Thorns is a king, but will also be injured by it, enjoying its glory while enduring the pain that comes with this identity. It always reminds those in power—that being a leader is not a luxury."

After speaking, Heavenly Dao paused and continued, "When I once explored the ruins of Barbarian God·Lietian, I saw a mural from the Primordial Age showing the Yellow Emperor personally placing the Crown of Thorns on Barbarian God·Lietian’s head, symbolizing him as the king of all mankind. The thorny crown you brought resembles that Crown of Thorns in the mural, but this thing has lost its power, and there’s no way to identify whether it is indeed the legendary Crown of Thorns."

Huang Yi stared at the thorny crown, regrettably saying, "Looks like I have to wait for fate. Such items from the Eternal Ancient Era are too old. Trying to restore its power using common means is impossible. Since this thing might be related to Barbarian God·Lietian, I’ll give it to you! Maybe one day you’ll encounter some adventure and restore its power."

Heavenly Dao nodded, placed the crown made of thorns into the storage ring, and said, "Since your avatar can’t come out, you might as well help me carefully explore that island to see if you can discover other clues about Barbarian God·Lietian."

"Alright! My avatar only explored a part of the island, there are many places left unexplored, if I find new clues I’ll inform you."

...

Time passed day by day.

During this time, Huang Yi’s avatar remained trapped on the island atop the Barbaric Turtle, logging in daily to wander around the island, taking walks everywhere. Whenever he discovered cemeteries, stone tablets, or ancient sites, he would stop to delve into them.

Over a span of a few days, most of the island has been explored except for some remote deep mountains, lakes, and caves.

Meanwhile, Huang Yi’s main body wasn’t idle. These days, his main body meticulously selected some new corpse materials in Heroes’ Prison’s morgue, planning to create a stronger avatar.

His current avatar has been in use for a long time, and the chosen corpse materials back then now seem unappealing to him. This time, his avatar happened to be trapped in Barbaric Turtle Village; he might as well attempt to abandon that avatar and activate a brand new one to see if it allows him to leave Barbaric Turtle Village this way.

This time’s new avatar is already his fourth generation avatar, with all aspects significantly upgraded.

The corpse materials he chose are at least Demigod Level. Especially, the heart part is created using the Dragon Heart of a Void God Level Golden Holy Dragon! The wings also have an extraordinary origin, they are from the largest Holy Giant Dragon in the Dragon Clan, with the original owner being of Void God strength.

The other parts are all Demigod Level corpse materials. As for the Third Eye on the forehead, he also found an eyeball in numerous criminal corpses with the same rather powerful clairvoyance capability to replace it.

That eyeball is the left eye of the left head of the Ghostly Wild Lion. The Ghostly Wild Lion is one of the most powerful Underworld creatures, at the Tenth Rank, and like the Golden Holy Dragon, it is a Top-Tier Creature. It has two heads, with four eyes total, each having different abilities. Notably, the ability of the left eye from the left head is Sight Penetration, able to see objects behind solids.

The Ghostly Wild Lion is a rarity in the Underworld. Currently, there’s only been one Ghostly Wild Lion appearing in The Second World—it’s the mount of the Indonesian Super-First Master, Fuchan Fenrao.

Fuchan Fenrao, like the Giant Bear, is one of the world’s top Hunters. This class values pets highly; their pets can exert stronger power than other classes. The same creature, as a pet of the Hunter Class, will be more powerful than as a pet of other classes. Additionally, when the pet’s true power is stronger than the owner, it won’t be drastically weakened, being able to fight with its real strength.

For example, Huang Yi’s Little Dragon, due to being hampered by Huang Yi, cannot consistently fight at Demigod strength. But if it were a pet of a Hunter player like Fuchan Fenrao, it would be able to fight at Demigod strength most of the time, with little restriction.
