Help, I'm in Another World and All the Men Are So Hot! [BL]-Chapter 114: A Dangerous Cure
Since then, Sebas had brewed yet another pot of tea, wiped the elf’s shoes, and meticulously cleaned a stain the elf left on the rug. Finally, Leonide had been sent to stand by the wall after trying to leverage each one into yet another debt.
"Boy, don’t you dare move from that spot. Not an inch!" the elf barked.
"Yes, sir," Leonide replied. "Though I would note that I’m following the orders of someone I am not obliged to listen to, and will consider that another debt."
Bold move, Leonide, Damien thought.
He’s probably just doing his best to lessen Damien’s debt.
The elf, shaken, muttered, "What is wrong with that kid?"
Damien chuckled. "He’s my cute little servant."
The elf retaliated with a quick jab of his heel into Damien’s stomach—not painful, but it left him winded for a moment. I really do hate this guy.
"All right, enough distractions," the elf said, shifting gears. "Let’s get back to the matter at hand."
It was still a life-or-death situation for Damien, though the elf seemed to treat it all like a trivial game. But yes, they needed to focus on Theo.
"We were discussing whether this ’magic transfer’ from Damien would work on Theo, weren’t we?"
"Wait, was that really the topic?" Damien thought to himself. He could’ve sworn they were talking about using his powers to restore Theo’s mana... Was that the same thing, or something different?
The elf looked down at Damien, seeming to reach some conclusion on his own. "Why the puzzled face? Ah, right. Since you lower beings can’t perceive mana, I’ll have to explain from scratch."
That smug look on the elf’s face was infuriating. Damien’s irritation simmered as he listened.
"No need to worry—I’ll break it down in terms you can understand. First off, this guy here," he said, gesturing toward Damien, "doesn’t actually possess an ability to restore others’ mana."
What? He’s turning everything upside down!
Even Sebas looked slightly taken aback, raising an eyebrow at this unexpected revelation.
"In Damien’s case, his natural mana regeneration is so high that it overflows. When that excess mana seeps out, other people nearby can absorb it, which is why it seems like he’s ’restoring’ mana."
Damien could follow the explanation, but since he didn’t fully understand mana itself, he was uncertain whether he should be satisfied with this explanation or not. At least he now knew he wasn’t exactly a healer but more like a "recovery hotspot" that restored mana passively just by being nearby.
"Understood, but as far as I know, humans can absorb mana but cannot release it. I find it curious that you speak so confidently about an occurrence you claim to be witnessing for the first time," Sebas remarked.
The elf sneered. "Of course I know. It’s a trait some of the oldest of my kind also share. Besides, you’ve seen it occasionally in your lower races too, have you not? What do they call it... ah yes, the Spirit Maiden."
"I must admit, I haven’t heard of such a person..." Sebas said, clearly skeptical.
If Sebas doesn’t know, how could I possibly know? thought Damien.
"What? You’ve never heard of the Spirit Maiden? They’re the ones who exude mana naturally and attract spirits as a result. They were even worshipped by people four hundred years ago."
Four hundred years ago? Damien thought. No wonder it’s practically a legend.
"It was around the time worshipping spirit became trendy," Sebas added thoughtfully. "I suppose Damien is the same in that he emits mana on his own, correct?"
"Indeed. Rare as it was even back then. Also, a minor correction: it’s not mana he emits but rather pure mana energy. His aura allows others to absorb it directly without needing to convert it, making the absorption process efficient. For our kind, as well as for spirits and demons, it feels quite pleasant being near such a potent source of pure mana." The elf sniffed the air with a pleased look. "And his mana is remarkably rich and fragrant. Exceptional, really."
So that’s why he kept sticking close, Damien realized. Wait a minute...
"Hang on, if just being nearby feels that good... does that mean you—"
"Oh, naturally," the elf interrupted, wearing a smug grin. "I sensed the mana you released the moment I walked into the room."
Damien fought the urge to roll his eyes. Ugh, this guy is insufferable. So, was the whole thing with Leonide a complete setup? He’d known the entire time and was just toying with Leonide? What a jerk!
"I’ll set aside your rotten personality for now, Teacher," Sebas interjected, "and assume we now understand how Damien restores others’ mana. The question, however, is whether this will negatively impact Master Theo’s health."
That was the real concern. The rest was trivial.
The elf waved dismissively. "Oh, it should hardly affect him."
Yes! thought Damien, relieved. He could finally proceed with Theo’s treatment without worries.
"So all I have to do is hold onto him, right?" Damien asked.
"Well, at worst, it might break down your mana conversion mechanism," the elf replied casually.
Wait, that sounds dangerous! Is that really something he could dismiss so lightly? Damien glanced at Sebas, who shook his head in silent warning.
So it’s a no, then...
When Damien tried to restore Theo’s mana, the magic device around Theo would break.
This is bad.
"Ah, it’s a really good choice for you to call me here. Having a powerful teacher like me is your blessing," the elf said smugly.
So annoying!
It’s frustrating, but the way he says things like that... does it mean...?
"Wait... does that mean you can actually do something about it?" Damien asked, his tone incredulous.
The elf grinned. "You, of all people, can be of no concern to me. There’s no need to change how you speak. It’s quite cute when a little pup barks loudly. And yes, that’s right. I can adjust the mana you carelessly released and pour it into Theo’s body."
Oh!
