Chapter 303: What Are You Doing!?

Calisí;

Alana’s room smells like flowers... and fear.

Not the sharp kind of fear— Not panic. No, not that.

It is a beautiful kind of fear. The one that is delicate and easy to weave and control.

That slow, obedient kind that seeps into the bones when one has learned that resistance only makes things worse.

She sits on the edge of her bed while I kneel behind her, fingers gliding through her hair as if this is intimacy... As if this is care.

Her hair is beautiful. Soft, lucious... Easy to control... much like her mind. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

I brush a loose strand from her face and smile at her reflection in the mirror opposite us. My expression is warm. Almost sisterly.

Anyone walking past the open door would see nothing but kindness and sisterhood.

That is the art of this. The obvious, but blended deception.

"You’ve been doing so well," I whisper, but she doesn’t so much as flinch.

"So quiet... So helpful." I praise further, and she swallows.

It pleases me to feel it.

The ripple of my magic resting in her bones like a lullaby she cannot wake from. Not a command. Not force... but an Influence.

She nods faintly, and I tilt my head, studying her eyes.

They’re glassy tonight. Tired... helpless.

This is the best I can do for her. The other option was killing her and filling a dummy in her place. I do not want to hurt this girl.

She and I... share a similar past. A part of her heart bears a pain I understand far too well.

For that shared trauma, I have kept her alive.

After all this is done, I will set her free. But for now, I need her to do the things I ask.

"Tomorrow morning," I whisper softly as my fingertips crawl to her temples, "Queen Selthía will ask you to stay back and assist her." I continue, and her shoulders tense.

"It will sound important. Personal. Like, she in the whole kingdom, there’s no one else who can help her, and she trusts you." I add gently, and I lean closer, my lips near her ear this time.

"Do not accept." I breathe flatly, and her breath stutters.

I smile wider in the mirror, and she holds my gaze.

"It’s just a ploy to keep you here," I say again.

"To... keep an eye on you, and we don’t want that, do we? We have a script to follow." I coo as I tuck her hair behind her ear with care, like a lover would.

"If you care about Elián," I continue, voice velvety with mock concern, "you will not stay here any longer. Elián has found ways to keep you, but tomorrow you will leave. No ifs, no buts." I conclude.

Her lips part, but no sound comes. She knows better than to object. She can’t even. Even if her heart is screaming against my commands and is pushing against me, she can not do anything about it.

"You will leave this kingdom," I say, brushing imaginary dust from her shoulder.

"You will do exactly as you were told beforehand," I add, and my fingers tighten, just a fraction.

"Otherwise..." I breathe, and she shudders.

I let the word hang as my magic hums around us, and Alana nods.

Of course she does.

She wouldn’t dare do anything else.

I straighten myself, satisfied, and before pulling away, I press a quick, affectionate kiss to the crown of her head.

"Thank you," I say brightly, as if she’s done me a favour.

I get off the bed and twirl my way out of the room. Leaving her there, and compliant.

The door closes behind me, and excitement hums through me.

With Alana gone, I would finally be able to focus on Elián and the brothers!!

Everything will finally start falling into place!!

I giggle softly and begin to skip like a little girl.

I skip down the corridor, light on my feet, with my heart thrumming with anticipation.

Everything is moving exactly as it should. Nooses are tightening, pieces sliding into place.

Tomorrow will be the start of something beautiful. I can’t wait!

I barely make it halfway down the hall before a hand suddenly clamps over my mouth, and I am yanked out of the light, into the shadows.

I’m too stunned to struggle as tough hands pull me away from the building into the secluded bushes behind.

Finally, I am thrown down, and I arch a brow as I see them.

Two guards.

"A peep from you, and I’ll spice you open!" One of the growls with a finger pressed to his lips, and my amusement grows.

What the fuck is going on??

Did the twins put them up to this??

They are close. Too close for comfort, and the earlier happiness I get is beginning to be replaced by irritation.

The other then laughs quietly.

"Well... Look what wandered off alone." He whispers, and I wait patiently.

I can sense the lust oozing off them, but for their sake, I hope this is part of that 1% of time where I’m wrong.

"Look here. Thick stone walls and thicker bushes surround this place. If you dare scream, your cries won’t even reach the castle before I put an end to you." The first guard growls, and I begin to feel my magic crackle at my fingertips.

"There’s no need for threats and fusses. This is something we can all enjoy if you cooperate with us. We’ve been watching you since you arrived. You’re pretty, and so... quiet. I know after this, you would continue being quiet, right? You won’t tell any—" The second guard speaks this time as he starts loosening the knot holding his pants down, and I hold his gaze.

Several faces from the brothels surface. The faces of those raiders who defiled me first... I have since gone after each and every one of them, and these two just decided to add themselves to the list??

"Let her try tell anyone. I will find her, and chop her into small bits!" The first guard growls, rage explodes in my chest.

"How many people have you done this to?" I question, and the second guard raises a brow.

"That’s none of your business—" The first guard interrupts, but I look at him, ripping his voice away from his throat cause he’s starting to agitate me.

"How many people have you done this to!?" I scream this time, and both men quickly rush towards me to cover my mouth, and that sets me off.

How dare they touch me!?

How dare they think—

The second guard slides a hand under my dress, and his other hand grips my arm painfully.

I feel the magic surge. Ready to destroy.

It answers my call instantly, eager and lethal. I taste copper as power coils behind my teeth, begging to be released. I could melt their minds. Break their bones.

Turn this disgusting little corner into a grave.

I start to draw it up. Magic that will wipe out their entire existence... Painfully, of course.

And then—

"What are you guys doing!??"

The shout cuts through the darkness like a blade.

The hands on me freeze, and I rip free, stumbling back to see who dared interrupt me.

I turn around to face whoever it is with fury blazing hot, but everything pauses when I see him.

Elián.

He is standing in the open corridor a little distance away, his eyes wide with shock and anger, and his chest heaving like he just ran a race. How he can see what is happening in this darkness amazes me.

His gaze flicks from me to the guards, and something hard settles into his posture.

"Step away from her," he commands sharply, and the guards hesitate.

Then I feel it.

The irony of this situation.

The almost-humour of it.

...Of all the people... Of all the moments.

Elian came... to save me!

I press a trembling hand to my throat, letting my eyes shine with just the right amount of fear, and letting my knees weaken, so I look small.

Victim. A front I have been for so long in my life, I now know how to become one on command.

Elián marches off the corridor and straight to us.

"What happened?" he asks, already furious... and protective... of me. I thought he didn’t like me?

He steps closer to me and repeats the questions, but I don’t answer. I don’t need to.

The guards stammer excuses. Lies tumble out of them, so clumsy and panicked that I barely hear them.

I’m watching Elián.

Watching the way his attention never leaves me.

Watching the way his hands curl into fists as he confirms what they were trying to do.

I watch how easily he believes that I could actually ever be a victim again.

Eventually, the guards retreat under his glare, muttering apologies. Elian screams that they be gone, and when they scramble off, the garden feels too quiet.

Elián turns to me fully now.

"Are you hurt?" he asks quietly, and I shake my head in negation, just barely.

"No," I whisper.

He exhales shakily and steps closer, concern etched deeply into his every feature.

"I’ll walk you back to your room. You shouldn’t be alone." He whispers, and I nod, grateful... Almost even submissive.

Inside, I am still shaking— Not from fear, but from restraint.

From the magic I swallowed instead of unleashing.

I’m shaking from the thrill of knowing how close I was to burning everything down—and how perfectly fate intervened instead.

As we walk, I keep my head bowed, playing the role to perfection.

But my mind is already racing.

Tomorrow, Alana will leave. Elián will worry. Creating my opening.

And now... Now I know something else as well. Something that makes me smile faintly to myself.

If I ever need "saving" again... I know exactly who will come running.
