Chapter 265: Sounds Insane

Elián;

My knees ache against the cold floor, but I barely feel it.

Queen Selthía’s hands are on my cheeks... warm, and steady, as she tries to ground me, but I’m shaking too hard to take comfort in anything.

Zerana is standing close, with her arms crossed tightly, and her face sharp with alertness.

Her eyes are studying me. My every move, my every breath, my every tremble. Like a doctor looking to make a diagnosis.

"Elian," Queen Selthía says softly, as she urges me again.

"Tell me what happened. Who’s Elien?" She questions, and I try to breathe. I really do, but I fail.

"He’s gone," I whisper hoarsely as it’s the only thing I know how to tell them.

"Who?" Zerana asks.

"Start with that." She urges, and I sigh.

"Elien," I choke out.

"He disappeared. I can’t feel him. I can’t hear him. It’s like... like he was ripped out of me." I cry, and

Both women stiffen.

"Out of you?" Zerana questions and I nod, when Queen Selthía settles on her calves in front of me.

"Explain clearly. Who is Elien?" She questions, and I suck in a trembling breath.

This is it.

The truth I have been swallowing since the day I woke up in this body.

The truth I never wanted to say because it sounds insane even to me.

...But Elien is gone. I have nothing to lose.

"I’m..." My throat closes.

"I’m not from here." The words stumble out of me, and Queen Selthía blinks once, while Zerana’s brows crease.

I rush to continue, although the words tumble out, messy and frantic.

"I’m not from this world. Not Nagári. Not Gravemaw. Not BeastHeaven. I’m not even from this...this realm. I don’t know what you call it here. Your universe? Your plane? I’m not from it!" I continue and stop to catch my breath.

I am rambling. I know I am rambling.

But everything inside me feels like it’s collapsing, and I can’t stop.

Not once have I thought a time would come that I could lose Elien, and now that it’s staring me in the face, I don’t want it. I can’t... I can’t do this without him.

Sure, I have the Alphas, and all... but they don’t beat or replace Elien. Elien is like a part of my soul so... I must do everything I can to save him... to bring him back...

Even if it means spilling my truth.

"In my world...where I come from... There are no beastmen. The world is no longer divided by kingdoms or clans. There is no mana. No Alphas, Betas, Omegas, or Primordials. People are just... people." I try to explain sensibly but my voice cracks under all the emotions.

I have to keep going. I have to somehow make them understand this mess.

I suck in a shaky breath and shut my eyes as I will myself to keep talking.

"Then one day... I-I died." I whisper.

Queen Selthía’s brows furrow, and a flicker of something almost like concern crosses her face.

Zerana on the other hand is staring at me as if she’s parsing the words of a lunatic...

They must think I’m insane.

"How?" she asks flatly, and I swallow.

Her tone is so practical, so emotionless, that it shakes me. I can’t tell if she believes me or not, or if she’s just playing along.

"In a..." I swallow.

"In an accident. Someone tried to murder me, and when I opened my eyes... I was here. In this body. Sharing it with Elien. Elien is the real owner of this body." I reply, and Queen Selthía’s eyes widen.

Zerana’s lips tighten,

"Sharing?" Zerana repeats carefully, and I nod frantically.

"Elien was the original soul in this body. He was here first. This is his body. I woke up inside him. With him. Two souls in one shell. He was... he was confused at first, but he accepted me. We coexisted. We talked. We planned. He helped me understand your world, and gave me clarity... But mostly... mostly he just took care of me." I croak, and by the end of my speech, my voice shatters.

The tears come again, stronger this time.

"He took care of me, Queen Selthía. He kept me company. Never let me feel alone... He kept me sane. H-he was my friend." I cry, and Zerana exchanges a glance with Selthía. A glance that makes my stomach twist.

They don’t believe me.

Of course they don’t.

Who would?!

But I need them to!

"You’re both looking at me like I’m insane!" I cry, voice breaking into a sob.

"But I swear—I swear I’m telling the truth! Please believe me—please—something is wrong. I can’t feel him anymore. It’s never been this quiet before. Never. Not once since I got here." I cry, crumbling in unbridled fear, and Queen Selthía reaches out again, brushing tears from my cheek.

"Elián," she coos.

"We are listening." She tries to assure me, but listening is not believing.

I can see it.

I can feel it. They don’t trust my words.

Zerana steps forward at last, her expression unreadable.

"Say it again," she instructs.

"Slowly. Start from when you first woke up in this world." She adds like she’s treating me like a patient. Or worse—like someone who snapped under pressure. And I roll my eyes and groan in exasperation.

"I’m telling the truth. I woke up in this body... the day they found Elien," I begin quietly.

"Elien was being auctioned. He had been stripped bare and was being sold like a mere commodity. And I... my soul... was pulled into him. I don’t know how. I don’t know why. But I woke up in the dark with him. I didn’t know what happened. I just appeared here. I’m telling you the truth!" I croak with more tears sliding down my face.

"Elien told me later that he didn’t remember the exact moment I joined him. Only that he suddenly felt... less alone." I add, and Queen Selthía’s throat bobs as she swallows.

Zerana’s eyes narrow, but not cruelly. Thoughtfully this time.

"We share everything. Memories. Emotions. Feelings... We—we had a pattern. Who controlled the body at what moments, how to switch smoothly, when to talk and when to stay quiet. He gave me space. I gave him rest." I push and my breath trembles.

"When he found out I was pregnant... he spent his soul-energy feeding the baby because I was injured." I break, and both women tense.

"He was helping me heal from the inside while keeping the child alive," I whisper. "He said I was too weak to give the baby enough energy, so he did it for me," I add, and Queen Selthía covers her mouth.

While Zerana mutters a curse under her breath.

Why did they react like that? Is it bad to give your soul energy to someone else??

Zerana inhales sharply, and Selthía presses a hand to her chest, eyes wide.

I move forward, hands trembling, voice breaking.

"Please—please believe me. I’m not crazy. I swear I’m not. I can’t feel him. Something is wrong. He can’t just... disappear."

"Help me find him. Please. Please help me bring him back." I beg, and for a terrifying moment, neither woman speaks.

Queen Selthía stares at me with shock softening into something deeper, something I can’t name, while Zerana is still as stone, but her eyes flicker with calculation... thought, analysis, but not dismissal.

Finally, she moves.

"Elián, calm down." She whispers and I look up at her

"I...can’t...!" I reply as I struggle to bite back tears.

"You can," she says, voice firm but not unkind.

"And you will. Because panicking will not help him. And it will not help your baby." Her words strike like a bell.

I shut my eyes, choking on a sob, and Queen Selthía scoots closer, cupping my cheeks, and forcing my gaze to fix on hers.

"We don’t understand everything you’ve said," she confesses gently.

"Another world, another soul... it sounds impossible." She says, and my heart sinks.

"But," she continues, brushing my tears away,

"Impossible things happen in this world every day. And we will not dismiss you." She adds, and Zerana nods.

"Whatever is happening inside you—we will help you uncover it."

"But Elien—" My voice breaks.

"We will help you find him too," Queen Selthía whispers, and I sniffle.

"I promise to do all I can to help you, my dear." She whispers and I bite my lip to stop my tears as I stare at her.

"You... you will?" I manage to force the question out of my throat, and she forces a smile at me.

She gentle brushes my hair back and kisses my forehead.

"I will help you, child. I will. Just trust me... I will try my best, but I need you to trust me." She says, and press into her touch. Hopeless. Helpless...

"Do you trust me?" She questions, and I drag a deep, shaky breath, and nod.

"Yes."
