Kidnapper 5;
All I can hear is my heart beating in my head as I stare at the woman hanging by her legs from the tree.
Her burgundy hair is dangling straight down, and her purple eyes are fixed on me. She has a smile on her face, yet it is the one thing about her that terrifies me the most.
It’s a wild, twisted smile. No smile should ever be that wide. That... unnerving.
"Sorry, I took your ability to move. I need you sat for the rest of the party." She says in a voice as gentle as silk. Silk with a deadly sharp blade underneath.
Fresh tears flood my eyes as I realise what she is.
She’s a witch. One of those creatures they warned us about while growing up. Those contaminated with the evil of dark magic. What is she doing here??
"Do you know..." She begins again, and this time, she drops from the tree, landing on her feet with a thud. "After a man’s body dies... the brain grasps onto life for about seven more minutes. Weaving a dream or reliving some peaceful memory." She says as she stands straight, and I gulp as she stares at me.
She has glowing, purple magical sigils and markings all over her skin and neck. Her dress, which doesn’t hide much, sways as she moves slowly towards me.
Her hips roll like the shoulder blade of a tiger striding, and each step she takes towards me feels like a leap toward death for me.
"I wonder what your last memory will be." She adds with a grin, and my heart leaps into my throat.
I struggle to move, but I can’t get my legs to work. They completely ignore every one of my attempts, and my heart starts screaming in panic.
"Please! Please! I... I have a wife. She’s pregnant!" I scream the first words I hope would get to this demon in front of me, and she pauses.
I hold my breath, hoping my words got to her, but she tilts her head and raises a brow.
Her eyes glow brighter as she stares at me, and shivers run through me as fear grabs me by the throat. Her eyes return to normal, and disgust suddenly floods her eyes as her smile vanishes.
"The same pregnant wife you sold to a brothel two years ago?" She demands, and my heart forgets how to beat.
How does she??/ How did she???
Her smile returns, and I feel sweat trickle down my back at how unsettling it is.
"Ah... I’m going to enjoy this." She whispers, and my throat smacks closed in panic as I begin to struggle not to pass out from fear.
"I..." She begins, but stops as she turns to the girls.
She tilts her head as she stares at the frightened girls.
With a smile on her face, she crouches down and holds a hand out to the little Herdkin girl.
The girl peeks at the witch from behind the strange, eldest girl, and I watch as the witch holds out her hand to the little girl.
The child holds on to the eldest in fear, and the witch smiles.
The witch stretches out both hands, and a purple ring appears above her hands. A small, purple cow materialises out of thin air in the middle of the ring, and the Herdkin girl’s eyes light up.
"Have you had your first shift?" The witch questions the little girl in a voice that’s so soft, it’s almost maternal.
"No..." The Herdkin girl replies as she hides herself more.
"Mama said I would soon, though. Cows are dignified creatures that can’t be forced. I’d get my first shift when my beast is ready." The girl adds, and the witch smiles.
Not the type of smile she’s been giving me, but a seemingly true, genuine smile.
"Hmm... I can bet a fortune you beast would be the cutest calf in your entire herd." She says, and the small, purple cow trots on air, straight for the little girl and vanishes as soon as it gets to the girl’s face.
The little girl smiles happily, and an idea strikes me.
"You came here for the girls, right!? Take them. Take them all. I don’t need a penny from you. You.. You don’t have to kill me to get them. I can hand them over to you for free. They’re worthless to me, I swear!" I beg desperately as I offer up the girls that cost me and my friends a fortune to acquire.
However, instead of seeming interested in my offer, her eyes shift and her expression drops.
Why... Why is she looking at me like that??
I’m not going to die here, will I?!
I told my foolish friends I had a bad feeling about these girls. Now look!!
***********
Calisí;
"They’re worthless to me, I swear!"
His words strike my heart harder than I’d like to admit.
Not because he dared to say them... but because I know how true they are.
My gaze returns to the terrified girls, and my heart aches for them.
Staring at the little girls, I’m forced to remember a time of my life I long buried behind me... or at least tried to.
I stand up straight, and staring at the man, I watch his lips vanish.
His mouth seals up with no way for him to speak another word or scream, and I smile as he starts screaming muffled screams.
I step back from him and let my head roll back as I lift my hands to the sky.
I hop gently from side to side as my bare feet crunch on dry leaves and damp soil.
I twirl from side to side, and I feel the girl’s eyes on me as I dance to what they think is silence.
But if you listen well... if you let yourself feel...
The sound of blood slowly dropping and soaking into the soil, the sound of blood trickling from open wounds... the sound of nature witnessing you give back to it... and this bastard’s muffled screams.
It’s all music. If you know how to listen.
I twirl about as I feel goosebumps rise along my skin. I stare at the girls, and they’re watching with confusion. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
I sway slowly to the older girl, and the moment I take her hands, my heart skips a beat.
Magic.
Concealed magic.
Her magic is what called to me.
I stop dancing, and she quickly yanks her hands away from mine.
She’s hiding her magic.
"What... do you want?" She questions, and my smile returns as I move away from her.
"What’s the fastest way to a man’s heart, darling?"
