Hello, Ex! I Finally Found My Worth!-Chapter 131: Mr. Clingy
Chapter 131 - Mr. Clingy
Later that evening, Emma stood in front of the full-length mirror in her and Alex's bedroom, smoothing the fabric of her emerald-green dress.
The soft silk hugged her figure perfectly, its off-shoulder neckline adding just the right touch of elegance. She tilted her head, adjusting a loose curl that had fallen out of place.
Alex, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed, watched her intently. His gaze was warm, his lips curving into a soft smile as he took in the sight of his wife.
"You look... breathtaking," he said, his voice filled with admiration as his eyes remained fixed on her.
Emma glanced at him through the mirror, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush. "You always say that," she teased, turning to face him, their eyes meeting and her heart skipping a beat.
"That's because it's always true," Alex replied, closing the distance between them, making Emma's heart beat double it's pace.
He reached her and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer. "But tonight, you've outdone yourself, babe," he said, his voice a low whisper.
She laughed softly, resting her hands on his chest. "You're just saying that because you're biased," she said trying as hard as she could not to let her mind drift and succumb to the heat bubbling inside of her at his touch.
"Absolutely," he said with a grin, leaning down to press a kiss to her forehead. "But I don't care. You're stunning, and I'm the luckiest man alive."
Emma's heart swelled at his words. Moments like these reminded her of how deeply Alex loved her and she loved it.
"Well, Mr. Sterling," she said playfully, "you don't look too bad yourself."
Alex smirked. "I'll take that as a compliment. But honestly, do we really have to go? I'd much rather stay here with you," he said with a pout making Emma giggle in amusement.
But before Emma could respond, a soft knock interrupted them.
"Come in," Emma called.
A maid stepped inside, her hands folded neatly in front of her. "Mr. and Mrs. Sterling, Ms. Sterling asked me to inform you that Ivy, ma'am has arrived."
Emma nodded. "Thank you. We'll be down shortly."
The maid left, and Alex sighed dramatically. "See? Now we have to go."
Emma chuckled, turning back to the mirror for one last check. "You'll be with me there, and you'll be with me when we come back. Isn't that enough?"
"Not even close," Alex said, wrapping his arms around her again from behind.
She laughed, gently nudging him away. "Come on, Mr. Clingy. Let's not keep Ivy waiting," she said attempting to move towards the door.
Alex stopped her. "Wait, there's something I want to give you," he said Emma tilted her head, her brow arching in curiosity.
"Oh? And what would that be?" She asked, looking at him in amusement wondering if it was one of those antics just to spend some more time with her.
Alex smirked, reaching into his pocket. "Close your eyes," he said softly.
Her lips curved into a teasing smile. "Do I really have to?" she asked, wondering what he was up to now.
"Yes, trust me," Alex insisted, his voice laced with anticipation.
With a small laugh, Emma complied, her eyes fluttering shut.
She felt Alex step behind her, his warm hands brushing her shoulders as he gently moved her hair aside.
A moment later, something cool and smooth touched her skin, followed by the subtle weight of a necklace settling around her neck.
"Alright," Alex whispered, his voice close to her ear. "You can open them now."
Emma opened her eyes and turned to the mirror. Her breath hitched as she saw the delicate diamond necklace adorning her neck, matching with with her pale skin.
The shimmering stones caught the light beautifully, their brilliance only outmatched by the warmth of Alex's gaze in the reflection.
"Alex..." she breathed, her fingers brushing over the intricate design of the necklace. "It's stunning."
"I thought it would look perfect on you," Alex said, his hands resting on her shoulders as he leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to her temple. "Just like you, it's elegant and timeless."
Emma turned to face him, her eyes shining with emotion. "You didn't have to do this."
"I know," he said with a gentle shrug. "But I wanted to. You deserve to be spoiled, babe. Every single day."
Her lips quirked into a smile as she slid her arms around his neck. "Thank you, my Xander. I love it and I love you even more."
He grinned, his arms encircling her waist once more. "I love you even more, babe."
They stood there for a moment, lost in each other, before Emma finally stepped back, her cheeks flushed and her heart full.
"Alright," she said, her tone light but her voice tinged with affection. "Now we really have to go."
Alex sighed dramatically, his lips curling into a playful pout. "Fine. But only because you look so incredible that I want to show you off."
Emma laughed, shaking her head as she reached for his hand. "Let's go, Mr. Sterling."
Hand in hand, they made their way downstairs, where Ivy was waiting with a warm smile.
In the living room, Ivy stood near the sofa, dressed in a sleek burgundy jumpsuit that highlighted her lively personality. She greeted them with a bright smile.
"Emma! You look really stunning," Ivy said, her admiration evident.
Emma smiled and hugged her friend. "Thanks, Ve and you too," she said and after she pulled away, she looked into Ivy's eyes.
"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting. Where's your boyfriend? I thought you'd come here together," she asked looking around now.
Ivy's cheeks flushed, and she looked away shyly. "He's meeting us at the lounge."
Claire, who had been there since with a glass of water in hand, raised an eyebrow and shook her head in mock disbelief. "Look at you, blushing like that over a man. Love really does change people."
Ivy laughed, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "Yes it does and I can't wait to see it happen to you too," she retorted.
The room erupted in laughter, and Claire leaned forward slightly, her curiosity piqued. "So, who exactly is this Hunter guy who has you all smitten?" she asked not bothering to comment on Ivy's last words.
Ivy waved her hand dismissively, though her smile betrayed her pride. "Don't worry so much. You'll meet him soon enough. And when you do, I bet you'll want to leave Chris and go for him."
Claire scoffed, though her laughter bubbled to the surface. "My heart isn't so fickle that it could change men like a cup of wine."
Just then, Chris's deep voice cut through the conversation as he stepped inside. "That's my baby."
All eyes turned to him, and the room collectively echoed, "Your baby?" they all asked wondering since when Claire let Chris call her that.
Last Emma and Alex checked, she had said she wasn't calling Chris because calling him would mean throwing herself at him. And Chris hadn't exactly told Alex about any change when he called earlier that day to tell him about the hangout so what was going on?
He mused, his thoughts mirroring Emma's own.
Seeing the confusion on everyone's face, Claire giggled, her gaze dropping for a moment before meeting theirs again.
"Yes," she said with a smile. "I'm dating Chris now," she said surprising everyone.
"What? How did that happen? Since when?" Emma asked before she could stop herself.
Claire and Chris exchanged glances and Chris stepped forward. "Well, after Alex called me about the hangout, I decided to just go ask Claire and thankfully, she agreed. I mean, how could she not when she saw me kneeling outside her office?" Chris said making Claire blush as she nudged his side to tell him to stop.
The announcement was met with a chorus of congratulations and teasing.
Emma and Ivy exchanged amused looks before turning to Claire. "Well, at least there won't be any need for pretenses now," Emma said, nudging her lightly.
"Exactly," Ivy added. "It's about time!"
Claire rolled her eyes, but the small smile playing on her lips showed her happiness.
With everyone gathered, they decided it was time to head to the lounge. Ivy led the way, promising that the night would be unforgettable.
As they stepped outside, the cool evening air greeted them, filled with the promise of laughter and good company.
Alex, walking hand in hand with Emma, couldn't help but steal glances at her, already looking forward to the moment they'd return home, just the two of them.
