Chapter 129 - Spreading Some Love

The morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, painting soft golden hues across the bedroom where Emma and Alex lay beside each other.

Emma stirred, her head tucked under Alex's chin, her fingers lazily tracing circles on his chest. Alex, already awake, watched her with a contented smile, his hand gently brushing through her hair.

Though this was what he had been doing all week since the kidnap, having her head on his chest and feeling her warmth all through the night felt different and it was a feeling he wasn't going to trade for anything. He thought as he smiled wider, looking at her sleepy face.

"Good morning, Mrs. Sterling," he whispered, his voice low and warm.

Emma grinned without opening her eyes. "Good morning, Mr. Sterling. You're up early," she said, knowing he must have been watching her like he always did.

Alex chuckled. "How could I sleep when I have you in my arms? Feels like a dream I don't want to end, baby," he said, kissing her hair and inhaling her scent.

Emma tilted her head to look at him, her green eyes sparkling with affection. "You're so smooth in the morning. What are you going to do when you go back to work? Who'll you charm then?" she teased, raising an amused brow.

He feigned a dramatic gasp. "Are you implying I'd charm anyone but you? Never! Why would you imply such when I can't even get enough of you?" he asked holding her gaze.

She laughed softly, leaning up to kiss him. "Good answer, Mr. Sterling."

They lay in comfortable silence for a few minutes, basking in each other's presence.

Emma finally broke the quiet. "As much as I'd love to remain in bed with you, I have to get out....."

"To where? This is our time, baby," Alex pouted and Emma giggled.

"It's our time be sure Claire is covering for you at work. Anyways, I need to go tell Claire about the hangout with Ivy and Hunter before she leaves for work. Better to give her a heads-up so she gets back on time to prepare."

Alex tightened his arms around her. "Okay. I'll come with you."

Emma raised a brow, amused. "To tell Claire? Alex, she's your sister, not mine."

He grinned. "Doesn't matter. I don't want to be away from you for even a second. Besides we could have breakfast there, too."

Emma rolled her eyes playfully. "You're getting obsessed with me, Alex Sterling. I think you need to resume work immediately so it doesn't get worse."

Alex smirked, pretending to think. "Hmm...obsessed? Maybe I am and I don't want it to change. Thinking about resuming work, what if I hire you as my personal assistant? That way, you'd be with me everywhere. All day and every day?" he asked wriggling his brows at her.

Emma burst into laughter, swatting his chest. "You're impossible! Alex, I'm already with you every day. You don't have to act like a clingy teenager. You just might scare me away," she joked and Alex shook his head.

"I'm trying, babe but I just can't help it. I don't want to get over you, Em," he said with a dramatic sigh, pulling her closer.

She shook her head, laughing as she kissed his cheek. "Good thing you don't have to."

After a few more playful exchanges, they reluctantly left the warmth of their bed and made their way downstairs.

The delicious aroma of breakfast greeted them, and they found Claire already seated at the dining table, enjoying her coffee and toast.

The cook smiled at their arrival, immediately heading to the kitchen to prepare their food since she hadn't made anything for them incase they decided to use the kitchen like Alex had been doing for the past few days.

Claire looked up from her plate, her lips curling into a teasing smirk. "Well, well. You two are out of bed early today. What's the occasion?" she asked playfully.

Alex pulled out a chair for Emma before taking his seat. "No occasion. Just thought we'd spread some love your way, Claire."

Claire rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her smile. "You two are disgustingly sweet sometimes, you know that?" she asked, shaking her head.

Emma laughed. "You're just being jealous."

"Maybe. Maybe not. I don't really care," Claire admitted with a shrug, taking another sip of her coffee.

"That statement in itself tells it all," Alex said and Claire nodded.

"Whatever you say."

After saying that, Emma straightened in her chair ready to tell Claire why they were there in the first place.

"So, Ivy invited me to a hangout tonight with her boyfriend, Hunter. We thought it'd be nice to make it a couples' thing. What do you think?"

Claire raised a brow. "Sounds fun, but that rules me out, doesn't it? No boyfriend here, remember?" she told them wondering why they were telling her that.

Alex leaned back in his chair, smirking. "Not necessarily. You could call Chris. I'm sure he'd go if you asked."

Claire scoffed, narrowing her eyes at him. "Chris? Why would I?" she asked with a raised brow.

"Well, because you're going to date him so why not just start now?" Alex asked with a shrug.

"First of all, I agreed to give him a chance, not to throw myself at him, Alex. Secondly, I'm not calling him to ask him anything and I'm not going."

Emma shook her head, pretending to be exasperated. "Claire, calling him isn't throwing yourself at him. It's just an invitation."

"Whatever," Claire muttered, crossing her arms. "I'm not going. End of story."

Alex and Emma exchanged a knowing look, both suppressing smiles. Claire noticed and rolled her eyes again. "Stop looking at me like that."

"Alright, fine," Alex said, raising his hands in mock surrender. "But just so you know, you're missing out."

Claire shrugged, finishing her coffee. "Sure. You two have your fun. But Alex, enjoy your time at home while you can because you're going back to work on Monday. No more lazing around with your wife all day."

Alex grinned. "I'll try not to keep lazing even after I resume work."

Claire smirked, grabbing her bag as she stood. "We'll see. Bye, lovebirds."

Emma and Alex waved as she left, the sound of the door closing behind her.

"Do you think she'd go for it?" Emma asked and Alex shrugged.

"I don't know. Maybe she would but that won't stop me from telling Chris about it myself," he said and Emma nodded.

"I just want to see them get together," Emma said and Alex sighed, agreeing within himself that even he wanted the same thing.
